I don’t know about everyone else but I see this song as an analogy for addiction. The love in the song is Ben’s addiction. Sleeping close to heaven is how you feel when you take stuff like heroin. The chorus and bridge is Ben falling back into addiction and wanting to get away from it but is so addicted that it won’t release him.
