You really should give their latest album 'The Stage' a go. Wasn't much of a fan prior to that one, but they switched their gears pretty heavily. The lyrics on the title track as well man. Follow up with a reaction to that one if you got the time ✌☀
I am certainly not an expert, but these seems straight out doom metal to me. Slow beat, lyrics expressing dread and doom, sullen synth. I thought the video was sick, really brought out the dystopian side of life. This may find a place on my late night "screw everything" setlist. Great reaction, now I am curious what their other work is like. Encyclopedia Metallicum doesn't even list them, but Wiki says they have been in almost every metal genre around, from metalcore to prog. Normally that is not a good thing, means they have no clue who they are, but now I am intrigued. Keep rocking.
This song is very different I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it. However I am still really excited for the new album. If you haven't heard The Stage from 2016 you have to hear it, it is just as good as their early stuff but more progressive the new drummer Brooks Wackerman is amazing on it
Everyone keeps saying to check it out, so i will! I haven't really listened since Nightmare. I have some catching up to do obviously! I might even do a reaction to it.... thanks for watching bro!
I wanna say I didn’t really enjoy it, but… given the nature/context of the video and the message they’re trying to convey here, it’s a whole mood 👌🏼 It seems like it’s trying to convey how the person’s life is dragging on, same thing over and over again, hence the dreaming and whatnot, and the music is conveying that sense of time passing slowly, dragging on etc…! I’d like to hear more of *this* kind of stuff they’re now doing to get a better idea of where this particular song sits haha! ✨ Great review man, very insightful - thanks for showing us this!
I agree, I want to hear more before I judge this newer era of the band. I haven’t listened to them in a decade so I have some catching up it seems 😂😂 but you are right, this is more of a vibe then a standard, straightforward “song” in a sense. I don’t know how to feel about how polished it sounds though. A7X production (imo) shouldn’t sound that clean lol
Hey bro!! Its a good song, its a bit repeatable with Matt´s voice, and the production reminds me of albums like the stage, Synisters guitar work gives me like Hail to the king vibes, and in middle it gives me a little piece of heaven vibes, i would have liked a difftent section for Matt at the end, but i like the stuff they used in the song still, my favorite part proberly the guitar solo, The new album is as far as i know, a concept album, and i do not hope rest of the songs sound like this, but it can be cool on the album, among the other tracks still.. And im exited to hear rest of the album.. Also the intro, and the repeatable riff gives me Black sabbath vibes..
While this song is okay, it's been 7 years since we've last heard them and I really wanted something that would blow me away. I must say I do love the solo though, and still looking forward to what else is on the album.
I agree the solo was great. Gates is still a beast. I’m interested in hearing what else they have to offer because I like their thinking and concept behind this even if the instrumentation is a little lacking and the sound too polished.
Parts definitely grew on me and I relistened to it again today after seeing your comment and I still feel like I did when I first heard it. Definitely interested in listening to more but not blown away. I loved waking the fallen/ST/Nightmare a lot but this will take time to get used to. They have evolved into something different but I’m intrigued.
How did you miss the drumming? The drumming is awesome… everyone misses The Rev, but this guy they have had for the last two albums is fantastic… It is a very strange album, overproduced and odd instrumentation by design…

Not the greatest track on the album music wise, but the lyrics and video says so much.
I will for sure check out the stage, i might even do a video for it :)

You should check out the song The Stage. Then

Good call on it being doom metal I agree

I hear the black sabbath too! the riff screams BS. i love the eerie vibe they are going for, it's pretty interesting TBH

Ooooh, been a long time since I heard anything by these guys! I heard they’re doing prog recently 👀
4 weeks later what do you think?

A strange f’n album…
I don't like the drum sound, vocals are great
I agree the vocals are dope. Shadows is such a beast.
