I remember going to a place like this in SoCal in the 1970s. It was most likely a Boy Scout camp. You would have your tents around the area and then have meals in the chow hall. Served by the older kids and fathers and den mothers
This sounds like the exact reason. Maybe not exactly the boy scouts but something very similar.
It is One of two things, either a forest fire fighting camp with a crew would rest and eat if it is new. The other option if it's very old it is a cattle ranches rest stop for driving cattle from One seasonal grazing area to a different grazing area. I've had experience with both when I was younger I fought forest fires and as I got older I drove cattle from one grazing area to another
Sincerely
Firewalker
What trees?😅
Cattle stop for cattle drive sounds good, but there should be some old corrals. Mining camp, nah. No mining stuff around. Logging camp, maybe but no logs laying around. Firefighters camp ? I wouldn't think so. They got to be portable. Boy scout camp really is looking good. On the blm. I feel for obvious reasons you wouldn't say where this is. But, Wyoming ? Montana, Idaho? I'm from Wyoming.
Either a scout camp or a cattle ranch with centralized chow hall. "Roundup time" would invite all the cowhands to this location.
or a logging camp.
@@johnmoton4808 Yea with all that big timber around .
@@MrTonyPiscatellemaybe why there isn’t …
@@donmcatee45 You can even see evidence of a logging mill, if you strain your eyes with a lunar telescope. NOT!
@@donmcatee45, Maybe if it was, there's be STUMPS, NEW GROWTH & HABITABLE AREA for trees, instead of high prairie!?
Man, the inside of that fridge was C-L-E-A-N!!!
that's exactly what I was thinking.. it was super clean for sure..
I thought so as well.
It's simply a mess hall for cowboys. Cattle, roundups, cowboys eat.
It was probably owned by a ranch , way back when , and was probably used for family events , and gatherings . The Slaughter Ranch in AZ , is out in the middle of nowhere , but the buildings have things you wouldnt expect . Like huge ice house , next to the main house , so they could keep things cool , year round . You would be surprised , at some of the things the old , high acre ranches had, to make that lifestyle more comfortable . They wern't just cowboys , it was a lifestyle . Very close knit communities . I have even stumbled accros rancher cemetaries ..........out in the middle of nowhere . Granted , one of the few headstones you could still read , dated to 1906 , but they are out there .
Even in current condition it looks beautiful. Thank you for showing us 🙏
My fellow cowboys and I were last there in 1977. It's used as a mess hall for the spring roundup of cattle.
Exactly what I surmised!
It's an old cattle camp used to feed the cowboys coming in with the cattle.
Looks like a mess hall for round up .
We would rent places like this in the 1970-80 to bring our tents and campers for large family reunions. It was great all the ladies in the large kitchen sharing recipes and laughter. In Idaho and Washington..
This is a nice place for camping. Amazing discovery. Thanks for share
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is an old cook house for a camp. Probably for a Boy Scout, Girl Scout, church group, YCC work camp, BLM work camp
Boyscout camp. They would come out and bring tents and setup all around, and that was the main chow hall and meeting center.
sounds right get place for a lot of tents
It’s a chow hall of some sort, could be for ranchers or scouts or other camping organizations hard to say, but definitely a chow hall
Call it a 'mess hall'
It's most likely a boy scout camp dating from the 50s to late 60s. That firepit hasn't been used in many, many years. A real shame this place is just waiting for the vandals to come in and destroy it or burn it down. Make a good camping cabin.
Remote cook house and dining hall for what was once a large cattle ranch?? There were electric refrigerators and freezers and gas or propane stoves and sinks as if it had a generator, running water (a well and windmill pump possibly at some point), and propane at one time. It also had a large wood stove outside and of course the two outhouses which indicates it’s been in use a long time. Interesting find. I’d like to know more about that land and its use and ownership over the last 150 years.
My guess is abandoned Boy Scouts camp or maybe a church group facility.
That's what came to mind when I entered.
Old scout camp for sure.
That's what I think.
@@DaveSuzukiExploration Beautiful place for it. Where is it?
I agree, absolutely stunning area. This is in Montana.
Ya, you can see where they went to propane with those pancake griddles, the always scout camping always scramble eggs pancakes and bacon and sausage , every morning, lol.
I'm willing to tow a camper there and live just to keep an eye on the place.
" cookhouse "
Please take your time panning the camera .. the name of the fridge , electric or gas , think I glanced at a switch / wires on a wall .
They probably had a generator, i could see lamps on the ceiling 💡
I find the way the old timers sited those cabins - was interesting and normally well thought out. Depending on the use they could be sited in the lee of a ridge to cut back wind. Or close to good hunting ground, up on a river terrace to avoid floods. Getting the sun etc. might seem obvious to some but not to all. Sometimes I have found old ‘secret’ hunters camps just by looking for good hunting spots and sometimes a simple camp was in a secluded place nearby. Thanks for sharing 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Probably a mess hall for a ranch. Beautiful country out there
Definitely a mess hall. At one time they must have had either a generator or propane to power the fridge and freezers. My guess would be either a Scout or church camp. Nicely presented. 🙂👍🏻
Very interesting, not what I was expecting either. Some kind of chow hall for campers/hunters perhaps. Great find!
My thoughts exactly!
it might be a "shell shock" cabin ???
Veterans from WW1 and other wars were allowed to build cabins in the national forest.
This was early treatment for PTSD.
Should have checked the containers, probably some info and a log in there. Awesome find and video! Thanks for sharing!
Double picnic tables, huge benches by the outdoor fire, giant griddles on the cook stoves, the size of the mess hall, everything says large group, I say its miners.
It was to feed all the workers
It's not bizarre it's pretty obvious a Scout Ground from 70's or 80's with a Canteen were they had there daily meals , probably camped in tents in that field you walked across.
It's a Cow Camp used at roundup time!
A very interesting video of an abandoned house out in the desert somewhere you noticed they never mention where it's at at one time they had to have water you could see the sinks or soda might have been generators for electric and a well God knows how old the place is 😮
Very very strange. It does look like a scout type camp. Plenty of seating for lots of people. Large fridges! Was there electric? Definitely leaves more questions than answers.
Excellent discovery and explore Dave.
I was thinking it would have been used for scouts. No electric that I know, perhaps they could have brought a generator.
Glad to see these comments setting this guy straight. I saw immediately that this was never a "homestead." Nothing at all unusual about it. A chow hall and camping spaces is all it is or was.
Most likely a Ranch out Camp,For cattle round up& branding shots & such.Maybe was out Camp ( Eagle).??
I am going to say it is the kitchen & mess hall for a miner's camp. The miner's slept in tents and would need a place to eat.
Looks like cafeteria
BOY SCOUTS MESS HOUSE FOR EATING OR FOR THE RANCHERS
Why are people mesmerized by looking inside an outhouse? There were electrical and water hookups with gas for the stoves and grills. You can see the light fixtures. So, yes, the freezers were powered at one time. It was a chow house for scouts or ranchers on cattle drives or other activities.
Agree with other comments, a retreat, large camp for "western experience "...but the size great for feeding big groups easy, rain or shine. Where's the music?!! Party time!!😂
Looks like a restaurant. One can sure see why they went out of business.
Cook shack for a logging camp or scout camp. Might even be an old CCC camp. Any roads or railroads, or irrigation projects in the area?
Nice find, thanks for sharing your travels
Thanks for watching!
You called it a homestead, but I suspect that's a misnomer. It looks like a range camp for a stock operation. If it's on public land it could be a kitchen and temporary shelter for a crew doing work on a game range. Montana has many of those. You're looking at this through a city person's eyes. You need to think like someone maintaining more remote parts of a ranch. Fencing can take several people who need to stay on-site, but that might only be for a couple weeks a year.
It looks like a place to feed the cowboys who came there for roundups.
IMO this may be a location for tent campers. Could be something like Boy Scouts.
Firefighters mess hall.
I have seen places like this used as restaurants during Snowmobile season.
It's not a homestead. It's a camp and that building is the kitchen and dinning area for all the kids who's at camp or the cowboys rounding up and or moving cattle from one area to the next and this was their camp.
cattle camp
Love your channel. The soft background music during the vid really sets the mood nicely as you explore these places. Wish you could post coordinates on this for me to look it up and investigate but I also understand why you dont.
I'd be happy to send cords through email.
Did you make any effort at all to find out what it was ? For example asking the nearby ranger station or the BLM or nearby stores in the area ? Im also surprised nobody in the comment section new the answer. I did notice how thick the Picnic tables were. They looked like 2 inch lumber. Could have been a logging camp ?
Well worn road, not over grown at all but deeply rutted. No place for horses but evidence of fairly recent use. No evidence of smell from the privy so not recent use. No graffiti or vandalism and everything is clean, as it was cleaned before it was abandon. Evidence of a large amount of cooking but no cold room, just some chest freezers and shelf storage for a few day's food for as many as fifty people, counting four to five to each side of the tables. No signs except for "Enter food line". the old stove and freezer outside indicating long term use but on a temporary schedule, that going along with the uninsulated tin roof and the gaps in the wall. No power or water, I would suggest a portable water tank, freezer truck and portable electric generator. Well build but out of scrap wood and tin. Med 20th century equipment, but then you wouldn't use new stuff in a temporary site like this anyway. Doesn't say where this is but the BSA, (Boy Scouts of America) would list it as a Jamboree site or a Scout camp. I doubt Girl Scouts would come there. There being little else in the area but grass on bottom land, it might be Winter grazing so a cattle drive camp might be it.
It looks like the good ol days
Love this one. As a person with a traumatic brain injury. I get dizzy watching these videos. You however not with your videos what gimbal are you using?
Thank you. I'm happy you are enjoying the videos. I use a Ronin DJI Stabilizer.
Looks like an abandoned cattle drive camp.
It looks pretty regimented.
Were there an military locations there? I think it might have been an old site for military maneuvers training site. A bivouac would have been erected on large wall tents, like barracks.
If it was something army they would have removed everything, from large tents to all supplies, including gensets, propane, water trucks .
What years where the training for desert war during the Bush era "War On Terror"???
Someone already said it's probably a mess hall for ranchers.
Looks like a cattle roundup spot or summer camp for boys. That area looks like it’s east of Bend Oregon. I recognized the cone shaped mountain.
Seeing the denuded hills, i wonder if it wasn't an old kitchen for the lumberjacks. Just a thought.😊
Could also be a conservation corps camp from the 70s
Someone trying to hide a pyramid over there or what? 0:14 🧐
LOOKS LIKE A RANCH KITCHEN TO ME
All good thoughts below one other could be a Hunting outfitters cabin chow hall. bring in hunters for guided hunts back in the day.
I go with the cowhands idea, but it could have been scouts. What the heck is attractive out there for Scouts to Camp there? There isn't even a stream nearby!
this place could be an old military camp
It all is each person's memory😮
Maybe it is an old movie set.
That's a good thought!
Hey man you are mistaken there that window over the range is not for looking out it's for looking in lol
1:35 now I understand why they call it double-u-c
Strange! Almost like an alien spacecraft just dropped that building there in the middle of nowhere that they had taken from another place and time. 🛸
Haha, it seems a bit out of place.
so what do the signs on the door and wall say? your curiosity drives you way out here and you don't bother to READ?
People have one at least restaurant when no store is around for miles.but can't keep it open they go
cowboys dont need two out house's , but girl scouts and boy scouts do A .
It's a group kitchen/chow hall
Mess hall for some group or workers
Probably used for a cattle roundup area.
It appears to have been a mess hall at some time.
You find such amazing places! This site looks very very primitive for Scouts even back in the 1970s or 80s, there are no rooms for any staff, or medical facility or room, no sign of a well, seems strange but who knows.
Possibly a fire personnel rear operating food service area? Add generators and supplies...just left the building for permanency. Otherwise I agree about a boyscout type setup.
Montana… the great wide open!!
Could it be a bunk house for cattlemen?
To me that looks more like it was used as a wrench and that's where the ranch hands came in and they all sat at the table and they would have their meals in there that's probably what it originally was and then maybe later on it became a camp or something but that to me looks like it was originally used as a ranch and that was the farm hands that came in and they all sat at the tables and they ate their meals in there and that's where the kitchen help prepared the meals but they also had picnic tables to sit outside also that's maybe they had the fire pit maybe that's where they were doing their branding of the stairs because all steers and cows were all branded years ago that's how they identified who owned what animals if they were mixed up with another Rancher or Farmers animals that's how they identified them was branding them so all animals were branded including horses so that very well could have been a large Ranch at one time
Maybe a movie set?
Can you make your videos longer? New sub👍
I generally upload longer episodes. Thanks for subbing!
It's a Boy Scout Summer Camp....they used to be fairly common before Scout Master's were Girly Men or Feminist Women misguiding our Male Youth.
I love the pyramids oh I mean mountains. Ok they are covered in dirt
Trespassing comes to mind
He said it was public land..
Ah yes the Internet Karen "user"
Haha, that's a good one. It's on public land.
LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE.
Cattle drive stop for ranchers?
Rail road chow hall. Crew removed the rail road track. Thru there. Just me.
I think it's a butcher shack that the farmer had. Maybe hunters used it too.
obv where ranch hands got fed
It looks like a mess hall for some organization.
never. never, never Bynum

Scout or church camp?...
I bet if you looked in all that grass between the building and the tipped over second outhouse, you might see rows of rocks in that grass, were tents and walkways were......
Just an observation, two two holers and a lot of picnic tables... All that flat grassy area for tents...
Looks like my family’s house in Mexico
