Thanks for such a valuable video! Privacy in VR is a huge concern, and it's surprising how few people talk about it. I'm new in VR and I've struggled finding a VR hardware company that prioritizes privacy. Despite my research, I haven't found any satisfactory options apart from the unsuccessful DecaGear VR Headset. Are you aware of any privacy-focused VR headsets or can you recommend any with good privacy practices? In the end, I guess the VR apps/games we choose might have the most significant impact on privacy.
Thanks for the kind words. I hope we can get more awareness to these issues before they become bigger problems. Regarding privacy-first headsets, I am not aware a company with these points as a marketing point, it is largely suppressed by the major companies in this space. Microsoft tried to make the HoloLens more secure by not letting some data leave the headset, but this can happen on a device like this where most of the compute is in the headset itself, impossible for most PC MNDs they will rely on connecting to an external device to processing power. The best bet right now is to use older 3DoF systems, especially if all you need is 360 video or tours for students.
Many thanks for this insightful response! I'll look further into older 3DoF headsets. I've been waiting for Apple's announcement on June 5. My hopes are not that high in terms of privacy, but let's see what they bring to the table. 🤞
