How Much Plastic Have I "Wasted"?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- How many rolls of filament have I used to make all of my Cosplay and Prop replicas? I've been wondering this myself for years and with enough trolls online pestering me like I'm the sole reason we have landfills, I think it's time to figure this out.

You too!!!
You too!
@@FranklyBuilt yoooooo frank
You're a good egg
Thanks, you too
Honestly tho, we need more recycling plants that ACTUALLY recycle the plastic waste and not just store them somewhere in the warehouse
Yea, but it's more expensive to recycle than to produce new... And they are all about money
I rlly appreciate u syncing the helmet transitions with the music it gave me v happy brain chemicals
It was fun to do
the sheer geeky joy as you play with everything is a genuinely contagious
Multi-colored 3D printers create a ton of poop waste. Someone needs to make an affordable filament extruder recycler because there is definitely a demand for it
The whole concept of plastic waste from 3D printing is the prime reason I have not (and never will) print a benchy. I can calibrate my printers in a much more efficient manner than one of those dumb things. Personally, I can't understand spending the time, money and effort to print something just to put it on a shelf and maybe look at it now and then. Everything I print is utilitarian and useful. But it's not for me to decide what other people print...I just refuse to listen to them when they complain that it's too expensive or wasteful.
you're amazing, dude. You got me into the hobby and I've been printing non-stop for 2 months now hahaha still learning but I gotta thank you for the uploads and teachings
Hey frank idk how possible it would be (if they actually "transform") but i think some of the trick weapons from bloodborne would be fun. I think the burial blade (Gehrman's scythe) or the saw blade would be coolest but understand if they wouldn't work.
I was thinking about 250lbs or less, so I'm happy with that guess.
Wow!!!? So much printing!!! You rock, Frank!
I'm a hater in precisely one way: when I see your stuff I yell at my screen "WHY DON'T MY PROJECTS LOOK LIKE THAT"
People are loosing site of what a "Hobby" really is. If your Grandmother sits there an knits blankets for everyone, is she wasting yarn? (probably, I don't like yarn blankets) A hobby is something that occupies my time, I print, I paint, I print again. Sometimes it is functional, sometimes, it's just art, sometimes it makes no sense and I did it just for the heck of it.
I always thought a spool would go so fast but I’ve had a printer for like a year and I’ve only used like 4-5 spools 😅
Hey @Franklybuilt, idk if you'll see this, but may as well ask. I'm struggling to find any help, and I hope you may have some answers. Long story short, I'm making a 3d printed master sword with scabbard, and I'm worried about scratching the sword inside the scabars when removing it. It'll be for a full cosplay, so I want to get it right and reduce the chances of damage. How can I protect the paint job on the sword blade?
So, cosplay props can conspired toys in a certain way. Except it depends on how fragile the filament is to create the actual object.
@franky built I have a question is the Neptune 3 a good 3D printer
Great vid! Were you surprised by any props weighing more or less than expected?
I think I was probably late on Instagram but that’s crazy. I guess 15 rolls for the Iron Man suits when I was writing them down, that’s crazy and keep up the great work
Nice!
@@FranklyBuilt thanks and I’ve been looking at 3-D printers to help me out to make prototypes of my things before I make them out of other materials and keep up the great work
fun video frank looking forward to the new ironman build.
what printer do you use for large parts?
I wonder what the weight of the paint vs the filament is
Hi, first Im gonna say you are the best and keep doing what you do best! Second I was just wondering if you think the Bambu Lab A1 is a good 3d printer for a budget of $400. I want an easy 3d printer to use as I’m a beginner. Thanks! I hope you see this!
What about the metal in the swords doesn’t that change anything? Also love this video you should add up the price of all the upgrades and 3d printers you have and we should guess that
Just imagine if all of these props were made out of metal... The weight would be insane
3:44 R.I.P.
4:31 R.I.P.
5:03 R.I.P.
6:19 Wow!
Honestly, its much less of a "Waist" if we use it for props and décor then what big corporations making items ya use once then get thrown away, I don't see you throwing any of your props out in the woods and just leaving them their, so i feel waist is a terrible misconception of it.
Its really kinda the same for car restoration and project builders out there honestly
Imagine he made a full suit of power armor.
4:38 did you make a video on all of ichigos true shikis and bankais because i cant find them.
Not yet. They’re not done lol
always love your content, always happy to see when you post :) keep doing what you're doing, you really inspire a lot of people. I've learned a lot from your channel!
I don’t necessarily agree with some of these, like the blue beetle and the chainsaw man helmets that have a lot of resin or the swords with the metal rods through them or Sylvie’s sword that is also resin.
Not commenting to hate or anything just giving my two cents
Personally doing a lot of jjk prints, you thought of making the prison realm?
1 ton
Congrats TIMMy lol franky keep up the good work 👏
What to do with my neptune 4 plus it layer shifts when printing helmets at the top of it
Find out why it’s layer shifting
@@FranklyBuilt ive tryed greasing the rails and making sure the belt were tight enough and cleaning it and it had made it a little further but is it possible for it to be a klipper issue?
@@Glitch-jk7 Try to print something else that is the same height or taller. If the issue is gone then it's "probably" a software/slicer problem, else it's a hardware problem.
@@ZeeengMicro will do!👍
Haters gonna hate Franky!! 😂
Keep doing what u do!!
Awesome video!!😊
You said the starboost suit was 14ish rolls then the actual weight is more a 12 rolls could it be that you added the supports that you used to the weight when you last weighted it?
Well yeah. I used 14 rolls to print it and supports etc. I was just concerned with final weight here
Your good intentions got you a spot here and im waiting for you.
Thanks, Satan!
Wow i was wayyyy off 😂 I guessed 700+ rolls lol
Try Number 8. plleeaasse an ironman video❤
Only off by 18!
Honestly that's way less than I would've guessed
None, you've invested plastic into learning experiences 😁
Me= “A lot”
FRANK! Are you at OpenSauce this year?
I am notttt
Not surprised to find out Frank is worthy 😁
Awesome 👍
Damn I was close with my 111 guess
Another BANGER
That's gotta be at least 3 rolls of filament
2:34 what was that?
Helldivers
@@FranklyBuilt oh yeah
Wow
I was off lol
the fact that the broken iron man helmet weighs more than the normal one lol
Dang I was so close I guessed 109 in the instagram
I was way off 🤣. I guess 5 x too high🤦♂️
same , i said 364 kg XD
I was way off from my guess lol
Definitely overestimated. But ill take my 145
It’s not that I don’t follow you on IG it’s more that I’m never on that platform……
Next figure out how much electricity was "wasted" printing all this.
Plastic is waste period. But it's not up to me to control you.
you the first one to make me instagram....
Ummm I think it's awesome...
154 rolls
That's funny why are these tosses watching your videos for, if they are against you making shit hot stuff on 3d printer. They need to get onto soft drink company's with all the plastic bottles they use. Mate when I come across your video on UA-cam ,I though wow I'm buying myself a 3d printer I now have 3. Your channel is the first channel I go to for learning cheers.
Your intro on the moral debate on this hobby couldn't be more eloquent. You inspired me to go fully into making props not just myself, but friends who cosplay.
You've helped the world ALOOOOT
Agreed! I've been doing 3D printing cosplay a couple of years now, and Frank has been the main source of info on the tutorials
Crazy this guy made propmaking his job... Jealous. maybe its a fun idea to get a "Famous" prop maker for for example Disney to hang out, show him what you made and ask him the design process behind the prop or the production process behind certain props he has worked on.
256 lbs is my guess. Close...
246kg I’m guessing. I know I’m wrong
233lb
C an u help me with my k1 printer
First
Actually no
The first thought I had when i started 3D printing was never "What am I making next!!" and it was always "oh no it costs 400g to print ONE PART!?"
Dude, you teach, entertain, and contribute positively to a great community. The haterzz can buzz off.
So glad I correctly recalled your suits being 15 rolls. My one win 😂
We need more Frank playing with swords montages. 😂 Say aye if you’re with me 😆🙌🏻
New to 3d printing. Just got a flashforge 5M. Your channel is great for beginners learned so much already. 👏 👏
Hey I have questions to frank and everyone is the elegoo Neptune 4 plus a good printer ???
Hey frank,
I want to start 3d printing cosplay suits but I don't know which 3d scanner to buy. What scanner would you recommend for fitting 3d prints to my body?
Would you ever consider making a filament shredder and then reusing it? I know there are a few cool kickstart/diy options out there. Not to appease the "haters" but finding a way to reuse some of the fails and supports would be cool
Where do u usually get your blueprints from? For Iron Man Gundam skulls stuff like that
Lots of places. I have a video on paid and free stl files
Wasting filament? Who do they think you are, Uncle Jessy?
Dude the only thing that I hated about 3D printing was the non usability, which is why I switched to making stuff with metal
This channel is what got me into 3d printing. Keep up the good work.
I hate when you make a Deadpool mask and then the one of the supports break and then it turns into uncooked spaghetti
Don’t listen to the haters. Keep up the great content. Most haters are just jealous. Your content has been very helpful.
''...LOOKING IN THE REAR VIEW,SEEING MY HATERS,THANKING GOD I MADE IT,I COULDN'T MAKE IT WITHOUT YOU...''[singing]...,Franky our man do You brother and let HATERS help you do research and do data capture over your business.
I did not keep track of the weights. I was cooking while I was watching this video, but that is way less than I expected. I could afford that maybe. maybe not the time.
If 106kg is 233.2lb, is 106.1 closer to 234 lbs? Did anyone guess that?
I though it was going to be a lot more!!!
How do you 3d print? Jk. I know how. You taught me.
I upgraded the nozzle with a micor swiss on the k1 and it just keeps over extrusion any fix
Thanks for your content I’ve been saving up for a Neptune 3 plus and when I get it I will look right to your videos I appreciate your content man and also what type of helmet would you recommend starting with
great colection, lost me hard with mixing imperial and metrics, but watched wall to see the results, keep the good works, []'s from Brazil
Just remember , if the haters follow you, they are fans in the closet 😂
Wsg I love the channel ur the reason I got into 3d printing keep goin👍
Next you should do one for total print time on all the printers you still currently have ... I bought my PRUSA i3 Mark 3 about 3 years ago and once I got my PRUSA XL up and running last month since I am selling the i3 I was curious and it turned out to be 3,845 print hrs ...
do you plan on making a video about the any cubic kobra 3 printer? and whats your thoughts about it?
To be honest, I started printing envelopes and other thing because I absolutely hate paper straws! It's a lousy payback attempt at the eco people who ruined my drinks
hey frank
love your vids man, i asked you this many times but you haven't responded yet
do u think i should buy an ender 5 plus or an ender 5 pro, i was thinking of buying the 5 plus
frank ik you probably won’t see this comment but i could really use your help or honestly anyone in the comments to help i got a ender 3 not a pro for christmas and the prints will not stick to the build plate and the filament will not extract sometimes i have tried many different things and i just have no idea what to do if anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated
