    The first flathead I caught was at my parents house like twenty years ago. I thought I had a state record bullhead. When the sun was shining the next day I realized what it was. The way I cooked it was the same way as a channel catfish I didn't drain it or soak it overnight or anything like that I didn't like it as much as a channel catfish. I only just catch maybe one catfish each time when I go out there now. The river has changed and there isn't really any hole there anymore so it has become a sheephead spot and on really nice nights a turtle fishing spot LOL.

      You must’ve not cooked it correctly. Flatheads taste WAY better than channels IMO. This is coming from someone that’s been cat fishing for both species for 20+ years.

    I've been binging your videos this morning 😂. I want to take my son this year and both catch out first flathead. Any recommendations within 90 minutes of Milwaukee county I can catch fish during the day? Really appreciate all your videos though, thanks for the great info!

      I rarely catch them before dark. Only places I’ve done that are Jefferson dam and Danville dam. You have to hover above dams and logjams if you to catch them during the day.

      Go to one of the dams on the river. You can also fish just about any log jam on the river as long as it is a deep spot. You will get some

    We fish that stretch of river on the boat, monsters are everywhere, you need a big live bluegill or bullhead from lake delton

    • @ancientfishing
      @ancientfishing  2 роки тому

      There’s a snag or something about 15 yards out.

    • @FRGGuideservice
      @FRGGuideservice 2 роки тому

      @@ancientfishingit drops off 25 or so feet, the snags would be big rocks or trees pushed in from the delton flood, you need a big bait out there or atleast a decent sized one live. Find the edge of the tree take risky casts, you will lose a rig or two but you will catch a giant

      Can you use fish from lake Delton for bait there?

      @TheAgileshadow I got that from their netting and bait harvest regulations on their website. you can only use landing nets, dip nets, minnow traps, and seines

      Lobbing a 3lb bait out would be hard. Easier to use the small drums.

      Believe it or not one of the best baits to use for cats and walleyes are bullheads. At one time the Minnesota State record walleye was caught on one. Just cut off the tail so they don’t burrow in the mud. They stay alive for a long time too. Check your local regulations for live baits first.
