They probably wanted to make faux kappa cooler with the name

as a name i dont really mind faux kappa but they should of just left his name unchanged and kept it as just kappa tbh

Could have made them all different colors as well, since Faux Kappa seems to imply "Oh, not THIS Kappa, the OTHER Kappa", which is unnecessarily complicated if they had just been faithful to what the Japanese had dubbed them all in the first place. Visually we can see they all look different, so why bother with the 'Faux'?

Solution: Don’t give them the same name.

I do not understand why they tried erasing so much of the references to Japanese culture in the English localization lol. You can’t really divorce Yōkai Watch from Japanese culture. Hell, I’m kind of shocked they didn’t call it “Ghost Watch” overseas, lol. It’s so odd how *some* of it is retained though, like some unchanged text in assets in the games that clearly resemble Japanese characters, and how some Yōkai that are very clear cut references to Japanese mythology and/or history are completely unchanged (e.g, Benkei, a direct reference to Musashibō Benkei, a famous warrior who went on a quest to collect 1000 swords from samurai he defeated) whilst others are completely changed (e.g, Hanako-san changing to Toiletta. The Hanako-san legend is arguably more well known overseas, too!) The inconsistency is what really irks me.
