People who complain about a 2% tax on exchange trades has probably not played many other MMOs. This is a genuinely good thing, and should be embraced. A flat 2% is fairly relaxed compared to some, and can be circumvented by actually trading with people (interacting with people in an MMO? Not in OSRS).
Can anyone explain, why they can't just add some untradeable items that can be bought from an NPC for a large amount of coins? Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing as being a gold sink?
I often think people like yourself (not hate) forget how rs used to be in its actual prime days. With as easy as it is to accumulate gp in the game right now don't think of it as taking it out on the players. This needs to happen to make the game better overall. The more powerful weapons that come into the game that kill bosses faster, the faster teleports to get there and the more efficiency players find out and use while the bosses mechanics and damage/hp stays the same.. only makes items dump into the game on a much faster pace. It would be so much better to have these implemented in the game because one day with enough effort things could be WAY more rewarding and enjoyable from bossing, which is what most of there item syncs are from. Not to mention my bank stays full 24/7 so i have no issue paying 888M to not have to deal with that BS anymore. This is literally so good for the game
you seem to fail to understand how item sinks will work and the tax impacts the player, so if we are taxed to remove items from the game then the items value and the value of gold will increase, which makes the 10% tax on grand exchange sales basically unnoticeable to the player base, because gold will have a strong buying value and items will retain their native value more, where as you seem to think its going to feel like a direct punishment for players.

They could offer some sort of cosmetic with tiers based on how much tax you’ve paid. These tiers should go up to some externally high amount like 100b+
Being a casual player, this change is amazing. But personally watching the market being affected as quickly as it has been is very frustrating. I was saving up for a dragon hunter Lance, I was 5m off and the price went up over 10m in a week. Very difficult for me to make that 10m.

I don't mind the tax. But make it a tax for seller AND buyer. and don't do it as high. Like for example 0,5% for each or 1% for each on lower items. High value items should be at 0,5% per person involved max.

Yeah, played since runescape classic (2002) and i have been shocked that neither version of the game ever opted for a tax on ge transactions. Generally in a mmo the most heavily taxed area of the game is the auction house.
They need to apply the tax to all higher tier mid level to end-game gear (barrows through Tbows) and all resource items (logs, ores, etc.). Imo, this is a much needed change, even though I occassionally flip items on the GE for some decent money. Would make entry-level PvM such as Barrows lucrative again. Right now, the only super profitable content is once you get to 85 slayer and any end-game PvM like raids.
This seem less like fixing an economy and more removing gp so people pay for memberships and not bonds. Bonds have slowly risen over the last few years and now they have crashed gp is now an issue.
If the economy is based on supply a demand then if less buy bonds and sell for gold the price of bonds will go up as there is less availible on the market
I think the main issue there hasn't been any new item/weapons in the game for a while so all late game content has been grinded relentlessly. This game is all about grinding the game needs new late game content with lower drop rate if they want to keep item's stable
I'd like to see most of these changes come through Although I think they should modify how tax is applied on the grand exchange, maybe make it just all trade is taxed.
Do you think there is the potential of ge abuse with the selected items? If they are wanted to buy X Saradomin Swords, a clan merching them could hyper inflate the price / put some up for max cash to cash in on that gold sink idea? RSN - Ziethos
rsn: tylah skills yea im excited for these changes itll help the economy so much. increasing the value of gold and good item sinks for that will hopefully boost the price of said items it'll be awesome
I think this is a good trade off, quadrillions of gp go through the duel arena every day so when that's gone we will need the 2% tax I don't love it but something that's 100m will be worth 98m instead isn't bad for keeping the entire economy afloat
and in the long run that item that is 100m might even gain 50% value lets say like dwh used to be like 40m? now its 29. so whilst the tax is annoying, the items youre selling would be worth more than they were before thus negating the 2% tax, realistically I would like to see something like a 5-10% tax realistically
I think this tax is fine. I would like the item sinks as well. Because I think it would prevent items like end game items falling in value and may stabilize minor items from spiking in value. It's better than adding some stupid degradation system for armor and weapons or items. That would just drive prices up. You can still merch and flip specific items. This is mainly to control a market crash, we don't want a huge drop in prices. If specific items retain their prices we have the ability for everyone to profit. You can still trade without the GE. That would see the return of Varrok and fally being a market of non GE trades.
nah , it's mainly the botters who mass farm gold into the game & who bot bosses nowadays like nightmare to get the items. Can't blame literally everyone for the greed of a minority.
agreed, and the ridiculous amounts of quantities of items we get from bosses and mobs. I know we needed a buff but i remember a day when dust devil/gargoyles/nechs didnt make you 500k a task lolol. when theres 100x more items coming in to the game without a sink it gunna be a issue. Sadly p2w is a big part of any online game it seems.
No it's all because jagex fucked up allowing dupes to happen which drop the gp from 1$per mil to 0.50$per mil. Now they are going to take it out on the actual players.
Taking a small portion of your gp to increase the value of your remaining gp seems alright to me. It's not as simple as just losing money because there is a tax.
I hate this, there are many other ways to create a gold sink. It’s one thing to propose something natural, that players have a choice over. Ie, cosmetic house upgrades, in rs3 case you have invention. Or maybe they could do a well of goodwill? The best way to get the majority of your player base happy here would be to create a sink people WANT to participate in.
