Thanks for watching Roy. If it is kept out of the elements when not in use, has oil applied to the handle occasionally and is not abused, it should last a long time.
As was noted on the video, it was wrapped with paracord and covered with insulation tape. I did this to protect the handle from overstrike, or from damage caused by contact with the block (round) not opening up fully as the maul head was driven into it. All handles on well used axes and mauls get a battering if they do not have some protection. The paracord was replaced some time later with either electric cable or clothes line ( I can't remember which). I wasn't happy with the paracord because there was too much 'play' in it, and I felt that it was not going to protect the handle adequately.
It was like watching my Grandfather all over again as you repaired that splitting maul.
I'll take that as a compliment.
@@michaelkearney5562 yes, please do. I’m now 61... you remind me very much of him...he taught me so much.
Good for another 50 years Michael. Great job.

Nice restoration project Michael!
Thanks, and I appreciate the comment.
Thing of beauty, friend. Peace.
Great Video. You are very handy. Need more people like yourself in the World! :)
Barry, Thanks for the comment.
I love the steel toe sandals you are wearing.
No sarcasm please. Those well used sandals have long since gone to meet their maker.
Good job Mick. Like new.
Thanks Paul. I'm happy with how it worked out, especially since I got it in such bad shape.
What did you wrap around the handle and what's its purpose thankyou?
