That’s what this channel is about Beautiful words with little to no correlation with the actual sound he thinks he remembered hearing outside of his psychoacoustic phenomenons.
I've had this DAC dongle for over couple of months now and I would say you have given a pretty accurate description of it's sound. I also have EPZ TP50, which is also a very good DAC, in my opinion, but gives a different signature to the sound at the very similar price. I use my old Sennheiser 565 Ovation(still sounds good), AKG 712 Pro and will soon HIFIMAN Ananda Stealth (on it's way). Depending on the mood and music genre I couple a different equipment to achieve the desired sound results. Now, the difference is not night and day but is noticeable and is fun too.
Does the Onix have enough power to power your 62 Ohm AKGs? He said in an earlier review that a dongle DAC would not be sufficient to power the AKG 702 satisfactorily.
@@benko7ab With AKG 712 Pro, absolutely no problem. To give you an example, if I listen to, what I would call a normal listening level through a Windows PC, Onix is set to "Gain Level High" Volume 67 (Out of 100), Media Player full, and PC sound Output 50%.
@@Sebastian-gc2hc It's mainly in the filters. If I set them both to equivalent settings, you would need a lots of testing and swapping to discover the difference, at least that's what I needed to do. For someone else, like Srboljub, who is doing it semi-professionally, and doing it well, may be easier to spot. The best way I can describe it is that Onix is slightly more velvety without losing the details, where EPZ is slightly sharper around the edges but in no way unpleasant. Also Onix sometimes appear to me to have a slightly better sound stage and natural reverberance of the instruments. Again, you would need a direct comparison to spot it. You wouldn't go wrong, sonically, choosing either one. I know you didn't ask but I think you ought to know, technically, one big annoyance for me with EPZ is that it doesn't display the volume level so, you are kind of hunting in the dark! And one more thing, EPZ is significantly more power hungry so, if you are using any battery-powered device like mobile phone or a laptop or a tablet, you should be aware of it!
Chord Mojo 2 sounds warm yet it can out-deteil most neutral sounding DACs. Or think of it this way. You can tune your TV picture to appear warm, yet it doesn't loose any resolution and details compared to when it's tuned to be neutral or cold. It's just tonally skewed (color tones in this case).
Funny how some people call warm what others call neutral, same goes for Clinical and neutral. Does your unit have the old or the new firmware? People say it sounds different. V1.0.3 is supposedly better than V1.1.3 so people are rolling back updates.
I have the Onix Alpha and it still retains the texture of the bass on EDM musics, but you are right it lands on something -2 from the reference point of the original studio recording. This is due to its softening of the sound. It's not over softened, it is just the right balance from analogue and hifi. Because it's designed to sound smooth to your ears and complement neutral to bright sounding IEMs and headphones.
I have this DAC. Thank you for the review. You always do a good job putting into words what we hear! I am very happy with this DAC. God bless you and all you love my friend.
RU6 was a long time ago so this is going to be drawn heavily from memory. I remember RU6 being equally warm and pleasant sounding but probably worse with technicalities (less resolving, blurred transients). One thing is that RU6 probably has a wider soundstage (not sure about this without a director comparison). RU7 is best of the three, with both highest resolution and best layering. Not so warm though and not so polite. might not be ideal for those who seek that signature.
Those are Platimons from Korea. Solid aluminum cabinet. People rave about how good they are. IIRC, they're in the neighborhood of 6K. Hopefully, there is an upcoming review.
Currently have the ONIX and the K5 pro ESS in your opinion which of the 2 would be better for competitive FPS gaming? And for overall music listening Do you think the RAW MDA would be a major upgrade to both of my devices or would the difference be negligent.
Sometimes I forget just how incredibly well spoken you are, and I am a fool for forgetting.
his words are precise with no coloration
His voice has fantastic extension with no harsh peaks

I just discovered this channel, what a great way of explaning sound differences! Most helpful I've ever heard. Good job mate!

Can you please tell more how EPZ and Onix differ sonically?

warm warm warm warm.... WARM means LACK of DETAILS.

Srba, you look familiar... Could we have met in Montreux a long time ago?
I've never been there so that couldn't have been me.
My eyes twitch when I see a cell phone without a case 😂😂
But they are slim, have nice curves, and quality materials. It would be a shame to hide it all.
I agree I’m just extremely accident prone lol
Nope for my ears, the soundstage is not wide, trust your ears. Just use it for 1 hour and sold it.
What are the DAC you used. Among that which one has has better sound stage? Which one is your favourite?
The Onix Alpha may not be razor-sharp, but this review is! Kudos! 🙌
Can’t get enough of your portable kit reviews!

Hope you get Linsoul or someone to send the Hearfield R1 r2r!
I like the Alpha XI1 so much it has me thinking about what the Mystic XP1 can do
Hi..I use dunu davincy and fiio ka5.is onix better than the fiio ka5? Pls reply..❤ from Kerala India

I have this DAC too
MQA + Balanced output = waste of money. I need one good 3.5mm
I am sold. I want euphoria. I will take the blue pill. Thanks!
How does it onix alpha compared to ru6 and ru7, is worth getting to compliment them?

@@iiWiReviewsthanks for clearing that up me
THX SRBJ 🤗 I hope you’re doing well 👍💚💚💚
Great review. Thanks so much. Bought one. 😊
any similarities with R2R dongles? as some say this is more on organic side, amazing how Cirrus dacs are this flexible.
Yes, that whole smooth and harmonically rich sound is similar to that. I would've belive it's an R2R design inside.
@@iiWiReviews thank you. appreciate your response.
Does it provide - enhance some sort of stage depth like r2r
Excellent review.
Is it better than Men of Ear Angel?
If you think of Earman Angel, no it's not. That one is more powerful and more detailed sounding.
Are those new speakers in your system i see in the background?

Hi how does this compare to the hiby r4 for sound, as well as topping e50+ifi zen can combo?
That bookshelf speaker from Mon acoustic, when are we expecting the review?
