"肘底力-- Tsaang = Elbow Duyh = Bottom Lik = Force / Strength / Power
I think different lineages have different perspectives on how to define it. Most prefer to use the idea of forward intent.
I like to think of it as keep the elbow low and put your mind and intent at the elbow instead of the hand. To each their own.
      But that's the literal definition."
I have just recently been taught the application of this concept and have a different perspective of the meaning. All that said, I was just wondering if you have ever heard of it.

+trenoops I have heard of that, just not in that literal verbiage. That's true, different people will define it differently. you have to figure out how to make sense of it in your head.
What does forward intent mean? It can be a mysterious usage, and it's used often. To me, it means the skill of being able to constantly flow your motions forward. Much of chi sau should be spent on this. Intent does not mean holding motion static and then springing forward. It should be like if you are gently pushing on a person, they can feel your gentle push. I use the word gentle there because often times people push and it's way to active and aggressive. If you do that, you'll give the opponent something to potentially counter.
It's right in the beginning to put mental focus in the elbow. It teaches you some balance and relaxation in the arm, which is crucial if you want to be able to adjust and flow your motions. The mistake is thinking I hit with my fist. You won't learn to put the body behind the motion that way. Look at how the shoulder is stretching to connect the arm to the body. You find that in the rotation of the arm through the punch.

+SifuKen@WindyCityWingChun I've actually just recently learned it's not about forward intent at all. If you want to learn more about it you should contact Sifu Chung Kwok Chow, he is currently giving seminars on the subject to people in his system Integrative Wing Chun. He will be sharing this information to other systems of Wing Chun soon. You are talking a lot about structure in this video and it is more about that then forward intent. It will completely open your eyes to Wing Chun's use of structure in connection to the elbow. Keep up the awesome videos and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
