That New York skyline in the background is an elaborate model. What's fascinating is, because this movie is shot in real time, The model starts to go dark and light start to show up outside.
One fascinating thing about this film I don't know if you noticed is that Hitchcock decided to shoot the film in long 10 minute rakes (a reel of film at the time) so that the camera would move about the party like a ROPE closing around them so that his visuals matched the theme of emotions closing in. Fantastic reaction. Thanks for watching it.
Thanks, Courtney! 🪢 This tale is loosely based on actual killers *Leopold* *and* *Loeb* from 1924. Another movie about them I remember loving was SWOON (1992).
The actor who played Rupert, Jimmy Stewart, was a superstar. Hitchcock uses him in other movies. Also, I don't know whether you noticed, but the entire movie was one single shot. The camera just followed people around. This is the only picture of Hitchcock's I know in which he has no ordinary cameo, undoubtedly because all of the action is in one apartment.
I was at a screening of this recently, and the man introducing it noted that the leads wanted James Mason for the part of Rupert (which would have been very interesting). When the characters talked about James Mason, it got a big laugh in the audience.
I have to say that Rupert's words were not twisted by Brandon, but, yes, there was something wrong with Brandon in the first place for him to latch onto them.
There is only ONE jump cut in this movie. The part when Phillip said he doesn't strangle chickens and then it jumps over to Rupert looking up with a confused look on his face. That was the first crack in the case.
i JUST heard about this movie in a video celebrating long one takes in movies! took me a second tonrealize why i knew of it, glad you watched it! i wasn't going to check it out but seeing that someone reacted to it... now THAT I'll watch! lol
Very hard to spot his cameo in this film. Rope is so entertaining! I'm glad you followed up with this one. The conversation was quite stimulating. Hitch had a very dry sense of humor. I got upset because no one seemed to be eating all that nice food. Of course, it sucked for poor David. I enjoyed your reaction to this one very much! The ole Master-Of-Suspense strikes again.
There is only one thing that does not add up. It's almost perfect, except that cry from David at the beginning. Think about it, you are being strangled with rope... How would you be able to SCREAM like that and for so long, just before you choke and die? Nope, you couldn't.

I haven't seen this in over 40 years! Thanks for viewing this one. It's always been my "fell thru the cracks" Hitchcock film
You're welcome!

The also Complusion 1959.
The play "Rope" from 1929.
HitchCock had 2 cameos in this. The Neon sign and he's walking on the street before the murder.

I didn't remember that this movie was so short. Great reaction!
So surprised that you picked this one, not one of his more famous productions. One of my favorites
Based on a play, obviously.
I haven't seen this in decades! I'm going to watch it first and then watch your reaction. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy re-watching the film.
@@CourtReacts-zm9yvTry Lifeboat, Hitch around 1942.
I think you'll enjoy _Strangers on a Train_ (1951), also by Mr. Hitchcock.
Awesome reaction! Loving the Alfred Hitchcock journey!!

This is a tight movie on the surface, but also fascinating to watch for it’s unique production techniques.
I love this movie SOOO MUCH. Thank you.

Fantastic film, the James Stewart Hitchcock films are my favorite, enjoyed your reaction Courtney!
I wish I could have caught your reaction in time. Oh well, I’ll enjoy it now.
They have to be subtle in 1949 about Brandon and Philip being gay guys

Hmm. Film I'd never heard about. Have to check it out
James Stewart at his best!! 😊😊😊

It was how they started the play in 1929. It took a minute between the scream and the curtain raising.
Hello
How can we get you more subs? I see all these dumb reactors with like 187k subs and it amazes me how few you have. Enjoyed it thanx.
