好きな人にこの曲を歌ってはダメですよ🥲この曲は自分はまだ彼が好きなのに彼から振られる曲ですから…自分の気持ちに嘘をついて彼のために別れてあげる歌ですから…bad end なのに嘘をついてhappy endと言っている歌です。私はこの曲を初めて聴いたとき号泣してしまいました🥲

The positive lyrics are the happiness in the past and what could have been. Expressing what they felt and still feels for the lover but ends with「なんてね」is like saying “if only” or “just kidding,” meaning things are over or not going to happen. Suppressing real feelings by saying I’m joking but also signing it out loud at the same time.
On the other hand, the more emotional sounding parts usually don’t end with 「なんてね」because those true feelings did not needed to be converted. For example: 「あれ実は嬉しかったよ」,「ほっとした顔のあなた 相変わらず暢気ね そこも大好きよ」
The most obvious example would probably be the last lines.

In short, the なんてね is like a pair of inverted commas.
The title is「Happy Ending」, more like Happy Ending to you, but “Happy Ending” to me.
The whole song is an emotional roller-coaster, which matches with the music changing between quiet and explosive.
When you have to part ways with someone you really love, you wish them the best and wish yourself best of luck.

私の1番の曲です
この曲の主人公（女性）は、別れたくないという自分の気持ちに嘘をついて、相手の男性にとってのハッピーエンド（＝別れ）を選んでいるのです。
このビデオは相手の視点なので、いつも彼女が笑っている楽しい思い出（ハッピーエンド）として描かれています
これは失恋ソングです。好きな人とは良い関係のままHAPPY ENDで別れようとして明るく振る舞っている。でも本当は別れるのが辛くて、過去の思い出や感情が溢れ出るのを我慢している。その心の葛藤を、逆説的なタイトルと歌詞、そしてプライベート映像風のMV で表現した、とても切ない歌だと思います。
This is a heartbreak song. She is behaving cheerfully trying to break up at HAPPY END with a good relationship with the person she likes. But it's really hard to break up, and she's putting up with overflowing memories and emotions from the past. I think it's a very sad song that expresses the conflict in her heart with a paradoxical title, lyrics, and a private video-style MV.

他の皆さんがコメントしているように、究極の失恋ソングです。アラフィフの私でさえ、若い頃の青すぎて未熟でピュアだった為に苦しんだ失恋を思い出して、胸が締めつけられました。この曲を初めて聴いたときは。
若い娘さん達なら、誰もが身に覚えがある切ない心象風景ですね、これを贈り物として歌われても哀しくなっちゃうかも！？
追記:これの題名を「ハッピーエンド」にされちゃうところが、歌に胸打たれた人に“最後のトドメ”って感じですよね～、この自己犠牲感にもうボロボロよ…
