Sir I must disagree with your assessment that war photography began in 1862. Photographers such as Roger Fenton, James Robertson (Britain) Felice Beato (Italy) and Carol Szathamari (Austro Hungary) were renown for their photographs of the Crimean War in 1855. These are regarded by the majority of world historians as the first war photographers and the Crimean War as the first major war to be photographed. Your obedient servant.
Ken Burns made a point in his documentary on the War that thousands upon thousands of those glass plate negatives were sold off for greenhouse glass, etc. He felt that people had had enough of war by Spring of 1865. No doubt we lost some treasures.
I love Civil War photography. Where would we be if those photos didn’t show us how brutal it really was. It shows what it was really like to live and fight durning such a sad time in our history.
Everything you claim started in 1862 in Virginia was begun in the Crimean war the decade before... was photography invented during the civil war? no, but lets pull a Thomas Edison and claim it as ours lol
Great video
Really interesting perspective of the photos Garry. Thanks for sharing!

Terrific, as usual.
You could have spent more time on this topic!! Amazing history!
My GG Grandfather fell at Spotsylvania. Interesting to know photos were taken there.

Photography definitely brought the horrors of the Civil War home to many on the civilian front far from the battlefield.
Good one
Some of those old photos are crystal clear.
Great video. I'm missing Garry's whiskers, though. :)
I have a few hobbies but I never click on video quicker than this channel

You should’ve added tidbits about the first aerial photos taken.
2 info dense minutes about people that I can't believe went around with glass and chemicals and did this stuff and places I want to go see. Neat.
