So if this test were to yield 120lbs, then we can assume that a wider fabric would hold 120*12lbs/foot of material ~1440lbs per ft?

Why the grip is not completely coving the specimens width? This specimen holding can induce an unbalanced load along the specimen, which effect the value

The ASTM website says they use extra fabric to the sides, so that the test results in a value close to the value of fabric with surrounding material.
