    great information. I have a General International GI 50-200R and will use this to clean the lifting mechanism. My saw is not as good as the Canadian-made Generals, which I hope to upgrade to one day, but it's still a good saw and I use it almost daily.

      Hey thanks for watching. I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it. The general is a fantastic cabinet saw. It was always superb for me and my business. The one you have is a hybrid and I think it is a pretty solid machine if I’m right. Although these saws are different, the gears are pretty much all the same with saw dust clogging them up eventually. So it’s a good idea to clean them occasionally to really make them operate smoothly and effortlessly. I did mine about once a month or so. I found that if I waited longer, my cleaning was to be more involved. Funny how that is. lol.

    Hi David, thanks for a very insightful video. I own a General 350 cabinet saw and it has seen intermittent use in my shop for the past years for a number of reasons. I am recently semi-retired and as I spend more time in my shop (Alleluia) I noticed my saw was not operating as smoothly as it used to. I have a good road map to get it back into great shape. Thanks for sharing your know-how.

      Thank you Daniel. I really appreciate your feedback. I’m certainly glad that this video helped a fellow woodworker and General 350 owner to boot. These saws are terrific. Mine goes almost everyday since new in 2005. I haven’t touched a thing on it. That’s amazing. But the gears need to be cleaned regularly. A good cleaning to the top sound also be good every now and then. Congrats on being semi retired and I wish you the best as you hone your woodworking skills. I’m glad you found my channel. Let me know if you have any requests for videos. Thanks again.

      @@davidbryanwoodworksandmore For the top of my table saw and General 8" jointer, I use Boeshield T-9 (Lee Valley Tools) to keep any flash rust / surface corrosion in check. To help things glide, I use Waxilit (Lee Valley Tools) to keep things gliding. It's a non contaminating wax so it won't affect finishing on your wood surfaces. Woodworking skills are good, I just get to use them more. Is there a way a can send you pictures off-line? I have built some pretty nice things this winter but I have to admit your table saw setup is killer!!!

      @@danielst-cyr Thanks Daniel. Im glad you think my Table Saw setup is Killer. Its a very important part of my operation. I do love it. Boeshield T 9 is good for sure. I used to use it a while back but I found that rust isn't an issue here so the treatment I use is really only for slickness. And I love the product I used in the video. Its cheaper too. Lee Valley is a Great Store. I wish we had one here. You can go to my website and right me a message with a picture. I get them that way so it should be easy. Davidbryanwoodworks.com. let me know.

    Just picked up a general 350 so this is very helpful, thanks!
    A bit of an odd question - I know you've since upgraded to a sliding saw, but do you remember if the motor in your 350 had any identification on it? The motor in mine doesn't have any of the usual electrical info on it, or even a brand. Curious if that's typical or not. Cheers!

    • @davidbryanwoodworksandmore

      Sounds like you got a nice saw!! Those are very nice. Mine is still in my trailer as I won’t get rid of it. My saw I don’t remember ever looking at the motor for identification. I’m sorry. The only thing I can say is the 350 comes with the baldor top of the line motor. Better than what came on another saw. I think it was called a color like platinum or silver. My dealer told me that when I bought it new. And he sold powermatic 66 and others with the generals. I hope you like your saw.

      @@davidbryanwoodworksandmore that's ok, thanks for the reply! I've also been told it's supposed to be a nice Baldor, no how idea how to verify that 😆 does the new saw work better for your shop than the 350 did?

    • @davidbryanwoodworksandmore
      @davidbryanwoodworksandmore  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes it’s the best baldor you can get. I used mine daily a lot for 15 years and it’s still perfect condition. Not one bit of bearing noise or anything. So smooth. The best cabinet saws are great but they’re not in the same category as scm sliders. My shop is better off with the slider but I’d still use my general if I had room. I’d set it up for various tasks but honestly I’m not sure what task I’d set it up for as the slider does everything better due to its design.

    David! Great to see another General 350 in action and hear of another satisfied owner in @Daniel St-Cyr! I have a General 350R, the R for riving knife, left tilt saw. No comparison to any other saw on the market now or from back in the day. I drove to two-hours north of Montreal to pick-up my saw from a former employee of General before they went to China. Great saw made in Drummondville, Quebec Canada. Would like to chat more sometime.

      That’s awesome to hear. Yes I’m very happy with my general 350. You just can’t put a price tag on quality when it’s being used daily with no problems at all. I’m very impressed with it. You being in Canada must see a few of them around. We don’t see a lot. So it’s nice to hear from you about this. You know what kind of saw it is. Thanks for watching and let me know if you’d like to see anything specific.

      @@davidbryanwoodworksandmore I live in a NE suburb of Fort Worth, TX and drove to two-hours north of Montreal for my saw. A really great story in the end. In 2015, I really wanted to invest in a Canadian made General 350R as opposed to any other saw on the market, either domestic or imported or made abroad by a US company. At that time, the bulk of the used 350R market was in French speaking Quebec as they were made in Drummondville, Quebec. The equivalent to eBay in Canada is called Kijiji and in Quebec, it was all in French. I had to learn to read French to find a quality saw. So, when I found a saw that seemed to be in a good state of quality, I would get the serial number and called to what remained of the factory to find out how old and what year a given saw was made. After the 7th time of calling the guy at the factory, he said "why don't you just buy my 350R?" I said, "SOLD!" and drove there two-weeks later to retrieve my saw. He also said "since you are so amped up by the serial numbers, you will love the serial number of my saw, the serial number of my saw is: LAST ONE." Literally, I have the last General 350 ever made sitting in my garage. It had only been used to cut 13 stair treads at his father-in-laws house. $1,500.00USD with all of the peripheral accessories to boot. He was happy and I was extremely happy. Since then, I have imported (10) 350s to the US for friends and other contacts. I still keep me eye on the 350s for sale as they surface frequently and sell quickly. Best saw ever made!

    David, Great video. Just out of curiosity how often do you have to dry lube your tablesaw? I’ve been told that dry lube is not as effective as grease, but frankly I prefer to try it since it’s so much easier to apply. Looking at your shop and the quality of your equipment, I trust your opinion and look forward to your feedback.

    • @davidbryanwoodworksandmore
      @davidbryanwoodworksandmore  3 роки тому

      Michael I’d just say that the dry lube I use is very good at lubing the gears in my table saw. It’s not attracting dust like grease will. But that being said, if you have another type of lube that doesn’t attract dust, try it. There are many makes of this lubricant. I use this for a lot of things in my shop as you’ll notice. I use my saw everyday so if you’re like me, about every month or so I’ll brush off the gears and lube. Otherwise the dust will get into trunnion gears and make them slow. Tip, Make sure you do this at night so it has time to totally dry before you use saw again.

      @@davidbryanwoodworksandmore thanks for getting back to me. I’ve always used regular grease which as you know is a mess to clean up when it’s covered in sawdust. I’ve never tried dry lube but after seeing your video it will be my go to for now on even if I have to lubricate more often it seems a lot easier. By the way, I love the tip about doing it at night and giving it a chance to dry. I would’ve never thought of that! Thank you very much.
