All that means is that NASCAR needs to go and rewrite the rule. I remember in 1993 when Nigel Mansell got a black flag. Other teams cried that it was illegal and Mansell was the one that made the call to have the pit stop performed and told his team that the rules didn't say it was not allowed. CART reviewed the rules and declared that Mansell was indeed correct and that the rules did not state it could not be done as such, it was legal. CART though modified the rules starting at the next race that made that illegal under the rules. How many other teams face a black flag, took the penalty and didn't actually read/understand the rules? I stopped watching NASCAR about 20 years ago. The way they operate is horrible. If you finish in 40th, you still earn points??? Still could debate Elliott still wins that race, especially with how much he won by. Either way, he did a good job limiting the damage of his mistake.

Their pit stall was before the start/finish line and came close to winning that stage on pit road. I think NASCAR changed that rule the next season.
