I use slabs to build up inside the towers, it's not as fast as using water but it leaves a more permanent and safe way up and down and using different slabs (end brick slabs, purpur brick slabs, wood, etc) can help distinguish between different towers.

I had successfully raided the EndCity and gotten the Elytra. So I decided to fly my way back to the portal to get back to my base. However on my way back I stopped on an island to open the F3 menu to see my coordinates to see if I was going the right way (because for some reason I couldn't really find any traces of the bridging blocks I used to travel from island to island). After I opened my F3 Menu, I realised I angered two endermen by looking at them even though I did not mean to. They killed me instantly even though I had full netherite armour with maximum enchants because I was wearing the Elytra at the time and not my chestplate. it was a sad story. I grinded so much, got perfect armour, got the amazing elytra just to be killed by a couple endermen on my way back home from the city. It was excruciating to say the least. I was so tempted to use cheats and go to creative and grab my items back and I did but then there was the guilty feeling of cheating myself. And since I had no interest in grinding for netherite and enchants another time I just deleted my world lol.

Had no idea the ender dragon was back. I didn’t have the materials to fight it. I almost cried because I had to go to creative. I miss that awesome world that I can’t play anymore because I had to cheat. It just isn’t as satisfying.

Then later he opened a random enderchest and he was like whoah there is a lot of loot in this chest. Personally, I'd also recommend bringing a crossbow and firework rockets (those that deal damage), if you have enough resources for them. Fireworks help dealing with shulkers quite a lot, given that they fly in a straight line and deal damage even when shulkers close their shells, which cannot be said about arrows. Plus, fireworks deal "area of effect" damage, which is helpful when shulkers are close to eachother.
The only downside to this that I've found is that, when having Multishot enchantment, despite using only one rocket per shot, the crossbow's durability still depletes by 3. I checked it with arrows - doesn't seem like it, so it probably affects only fireworks.

    Hey y’all,
I seriously recommend finding multiple ships so you can have spare Elytras’ and here’s why:
I just spent an hour preparing for an extensive trip to the Nether to farm for ancient debris. Got all my shulker chests loaded, got my Elytra on to find a suitable y level 15, just drank an 8 minute potion of fire resistance so I started by exploring right behind my nether base. To my complete surprise -- because I've never traveled that direction -- I stumbled across a pigman bastion.
So I land in a relatively safe area that had no pigman brutes and wanted to go higher up to write the coordinates down. So I double jump and look up and shoot a rocket.
I didn't realize where I came in was a whole in the roof, so I smash into the roof and full speed, turn around and smash into the wall behind me and full speed turn again land on a higher area with like 4 hearts left.
I turn around to see a pigman brute swing his axe at me and oneshot me with my Elytra on and proceed to put on my full enchanted diamond armor, but not the elytra (my diamond breastplate was in my inventory if I needed to quickly switch for a fight).
Ok, so I spawn back at the nether base, but I know the bastion is within walking distance, so I throw on a golden helmet, grab a golden sword and a few stacks of stone and head out.
I get to the lava pit that I am going to build across to the bastion and crouch and place my first block to shimmy across. As soon as I place it it falls because it's gravel not stone and I fall into lava to die losing my elytra for good.
Somehow in the chest I place my building blocks, a stack of gravel made its way into it. I grabbed the only stack along with a bunch of stone and just so happened to equip the gravel instead of stone.
I am on a server with some friends who will let me borrow their elytra to get another one I have saved coordinates for, but haven’t picked up yet. If I was on a solo server I may have just quit this world at this point.
Moral of the story: find at least three and keep two of them somewhere inside your ender chest.
    Edit:
I went back because I wanted to see if a pigman picked it up and he did. I trapped him in a boat and killed him and it somehow flew over the ledge I built and into lava 😢

Shulkers are an incredibly useful mob, may I even dare say the most useful mob, for me anyway. Shulker boxes can also be used in many designs for automated storage systems as well. This makes them the go to for long elytra journeys or missions that require carrying a lot of materials. For example I use them to carry tons of gold into the nether, trade it all with piglins, then carry the traded items back home. It's always a good idea to carry at least one shulker box with you late game, you don't know just how useful these boxes are until you start using them.

I don't recommend killing the shulkers with arrows when it's much more profitable to kill them with a looting III sword. Use potions of invisibility and use something to bridge or tower your way to any shulkers outside. Whatever you do, use the sword.
I also recommend bringing a few stacks of ladders for getting up and down inside the towers. Scaffolding works too, and I like to keep both in my ender chest. Ladders are cheaper, though.
Pro tip: You can use scaffolding to pull yourself down when you're under the levitation effect.

Any direction you go is a 100% guaranteed end city, it all depends on your luck whether you find one fast or find one that is 1000 blocks away. Patience is key.

I play a nether only survival world, but after playing on it for years I decided to open up access to the end, and it changed everything. And good enchants on my netherite armor doesn't seem so out of reach. A whole new building set, shulker boxes, elytra, and a new armor trim.

You can just build up to the end ship, loot the elytra and then fly through the towers. That's much efficient. You can bring books of mending, unbreaking and an anvil and enchant your elytra right there.

A couple tips whenever traversing the islands:
    1. I would strongly recommend using torches on a short tower(4 blocks high on top of the hills work great!) to track your path since they’re bright and far easier to see than just leaving single blocks every dozen blocks like he does.
    2. Maps DO work in The End! Create a size 2/4 - although 3/4 would be better - and then do your exploring. End Cities are rare, but on a map this size, I can guarantee you’ll find at least a couple cities by the time you fill out a 2/4 map. On a 3/4 map, I’ve been very lucky before and have found NINE End Cities on a single map, with a few of them even within view of others!
    3. As he shows at around 2:30, he really doesn’t express just how important having enough spare blocks are. Be sure to take literally hundreds of something like cobblestone(or dozens of logs and cobblestone to create a lot of pickaxes), since even the “close” islands can average 50-75 blocks apart. Like he says at 5:27, definitely DON’T use dirt that the Endermen can pick up!
    5. He didn’t mention this during his inventory management section, but I would recommend building a small temporary base outside End Cities to store stuff you don’t need right away. He’s carrying a ton of gear and food, but if you die while floating around inside the towers, all your stuff falls and gets scattered - which is a HUGE pain in the butt to try collecting again.

How on earth do you keep the endermen from running away when they get hit? I have tried the roof method and the stand-out-in-the-open way of fighting them. 9/10 times they run off after getting hit once or twice. Some stick it out until they have one hit left and then they run. If I use a flame-enchanted sword they always 100/100 run and never return. What's the secret here?

I have the exact same issue in my world. Standing on the main End Island with an unenchanted diamond sword and no cover I barely take damage and can maybe kill 1 or 2 before my sword breaks.
I'm pretty sure I've taken more damage on accident from endermen than the times I purposely attack them.

water completley cancels levitation of every level, as long as you are in water, you won´t get affected by levitation, it really helps. but shulkers can still hit you.
