Crippling the RP by taking away Dual Pixel AF AND 24fps 1080p in a camera that is still over $1,000 in 2019 is just friggin’ ridiculous.
You're absolutely right, and wrong. It's not a video camera, but it serves me beautifully as a B cam to my C200, especially with the R + Atomos recorder for 10 bit 4k output. It's an awesome combo.

It's important to mention that RP doesn't support dual autofocus in 4k. It means the 4k video recording is useless. Battery life is also bad. I think it's better to buy 6d Ii if you really need Canon or go for a7 iii for much more features and better quality.

I also use vintage M42 Zeiss Jena or Contact Zeiss via adapters ( on my 5D MKII ), Canon 6D's mirror might hit rear elements of a few models of lens retracting into mirror box space due to difference in design among C/Y, Pentax-K, and EF. With mirrorless, you can use any of those vintage lens without such worries. Also, Canon just added this camera option. That's all. It's not meant to make anything obsolete. Just more options.
Please tell us (R users) what is with our firmware update. Can we expect to get the focus bracketing on the R? Will the continues Eye AF, that has been promised be updated soon? And can we expect further improvements like sony does with his customers or will you let us stay with what we have and and hope that ML is doing it for you? It is nice that you released a new camera but i am slightly pissed that you did not finished the firmware updates for the R first, they where announced for end 2018 now we have mid Feb 2019. I love the R by no doubt but i would be very happy when you would care a bit more about the customers that already bought you stuff instead of only focus on new sales.

No, I wasn’t expecting an upgrade... or even the same spec. Just 4K, 8bit 24fps w/Dual Pixel AF capability. That’s all. No 10 bit or Canon Log. So no... not an upgrade, just the basic, bare minimum DP autofocus in 4K.
Being a long time Canon Full frame user I am a bit disappointed. These two mirrorless cameras do not have basic inbuilt image stabilisation, dual card, having a smaller battery does not help. Also 5 frames per second in 2019 is too little too late!
Hmmm .. like all your other Canon cameras that didn't have IBIS? In Jared Polin's review, I recall him saying something like 500 photos on a battery. That's fairly reasonable.
Canon EOS RP is better than EOS R (in terms of price to performance), currently i wasn't that mad about crippled 4K, because Canon use it's own sensor, not Sony's sensor. Im sure the architecture from Canon is optimized for photo.

LaMadrid81 yes it is sharper with the EF glass as well. The RF glass tends to push the last 5% to 10% of the lenses capabilities for example stabilization is incredible, extra control ring is nice. The RF to EF differences will only really be noticed by the photographers. Anyways the R has great dynamic range for video and photos. The sensor and exposure simulation are really what makes the camera great.

Canon, your mindset is extremely worrying. You need to remember that you’re no longer leading the market. You’ve become to comfortable, almost lazy. I’ve invested a lot of money in your gear over the years, it would be nice to see you introduce something innovative like back in the day when you gave us the 5D2.
The features of their camera's are concerning but, right now I do feel like Canon is trying to get the best pro-glass out in the market and later on bring out some better camera's.

I think that the no 24fps in 1080 is more grievous than no dual pixel in 4K. However I can see canon thinking that Vloggers shoot 30fps for compression vs 24. I just don’t see why canon would remove a slower, less processor intense FPS. Also fix the Ef-s issue, this is a great price point for people stepping up from Ef-s lenses. You won’t be cannibalizing R sales, it has higher end features like canon log, 10 bit hdmi out, better lcd and evf. Plenty there to sell the R on. Love these videos from canon Australia, hope they gave her the RP, She really wanted one. Otherwise I think the RP is a great entrance to FF, CANON USA has some great kit combos here in the US with rebates, and it’s a great gateway drug to the RF line. Beside the notes above, I think canon’s easing customers into their RF system really well.

Canon, disappointed me with this camera. It’s difficult for us to get used to the fact that you are behind the market and that you still do not have a ready on sensor stabilization solution. And now one more disappointment for us - camera users: why did you remove the protective cover of the sensor from it? I think this is a big marketing mistake. I doubt that this pleasant function for users would greatly influence the price of the camera. Your marketing department is working against you. I'm already starting to look towards other camera manufacturers that care more about their consumers.
Not sure how you can be disappointed with it. It's only $1299 USD. You can't expect everything. Canon also had to forgo certain features not just for cost saving reasons but also to differentiate it from the EOS R.
But, what about removing the sensor cover from it? This new sensor-protective feature should be in every new model (regardless of whether it is Full Frame camera or APS-C) starting from EOS R.

In case you didn't notice, the price of EOS R has been dropping (fast, IMO) in my region because of poor sales figure. From ~$1900 to ~$1700 now. I hope the price in your region will follow soon.
Unless you need full frame or really just enjoy canon, i dont see why you'd rather buy this than a fuji XT2/3 or a sony a7ii or a6400, those cameras blow the RP out of the water.

Why? Is it the shitty ergonomics in the hand? Is it the retarded menu system? Is it the shitty skin tones? Is it the constant need to tweak away at its subpar color science? Is it the fake sharpness? (zero setting is actually +2, sorry). Is it the dust-bunny sensor? Is it the jumpy unusable video AF that pales compared the superior Canon DPAF? Is it the inability to output a 10 bit 422 signal? ("But, but, but, it has full frame 4K so I can impress my friends with shallow dof," .... which is totally unusable because the AF sucks.)
@@cks7249 you can actually use most of the screen. You can move the AF point around while the camera is at your eye, it's rather like using a Wacom tablet. It's highly effective, and very easy.
@@oneeyedphotographer For now, Sony A7III does all these with a push of a button, press a button, the AF will lock on an eye of a person. In next generation of Sony AF system, it will automatically start tracking the same object when it lose the face. Again, no offence, although Canon's AF is capable, it comes no where near Sony's AF system.

All of my film cameras don't have image stabilization. Not everyone uses 400mm lens to track athletes on the move.

Yippie - Removing 24fps in 1080 & no DPAF in 4K isn’t about cost saving. It is about crippling the camera to protect their cine line of cameras.

EOS RP without 24 frame rates in 1080P ! Canon must be kidding to the buyers in 2019 !
What is that? Does this camera shoot stills? Looks. Like a promising upgrade from my 2005 canon 5D classic! My be overwhelming to learn all those features though. I just need to create images higher than 12mp resolution using full frame sensor.

In case you didn't notice, the price of EOS R has been dropping (fast, IMO) in my region because of poor sales figure. From ~$1900 to ~$1700 now. I hope the price in your region will follow soon.

Niether is right for me the Fuji XT3 offers more than both these cameras.
Unless you need full frame or really just enjoy canon, i dont see why you'd rather buy this than a fuji XT2/3 or a sony a7ii or a6400, those cameras blow the RP out of the water.
Because sony lenses too expensive. Most people already bought lots of Canon lenses.

Why? Is it the shitty ergonomics in the hand? Is it the retarded menu system? Is it the shitty skin tones? Is it the constant need to tweak away at its subpar color science? Is it the fake sharpness? (zero setting is actually +2, sorry). Is it the dust-bunny sensor? Is it the jumpy unusable video AF that pales compared the superior Canon DPAF? Is it the inability to output a 10 bit 422 signal? ("But, but, but, it has full frame 4K so I can impress my friends with shallow dof," .... which is totally unusable because the AF sucks.)

Just marketing BS, they counted every Dual Pixel AF point as 1 AF point... But it still come no where near A7III eye focusing system.
@@cks7249 you can actually use most of the screen. You can move the AF point around while the camera is at your eye, it's rather like using a Wacom tablet. It's highly effective, and very easy.
@@cks7249 the eye tracking in the RP is pretty good, including in video. I'm sure that it will be in the EOS R soon.
@@oneeyedphotographer For now, Sony A7III does all these with a push of a button, press a button, the AF will lock on an eye of a person. In next generation of Sony AF system, it will automatically start tracking the same object when it lose the face. Again, no offence, although Canon's AF is capable, it comes no where near Sony's AF system.

Please tell us (R users) what is with our firmware update. Can we expect to get the focus bracketing on the R? Will the continues Eye AF, that has been promised be updated soon? And can we expect further improvements like sony does with his customers or will you let us stay with what we have and and hope that ML is doing it for you? It is nice that you released a new camera but i am slightly pissed that you did not finished the firmware updates for the R first, they where announced for end 2018 now we have mid Feb 2019. I love the R by no doubt but i would be very happy when you would care a bit more about the customers that already bought you stuff instead of only focus on new sales.
