    Oh my goodness. I have been sewing from patterns for years, but store bought patterns don't fit me properly. I am curvier in the bust and hip than my corresponding pattern size, so if I go up a size it's baggy in some areas, or if I go down a size it's too tight in other areas. I have learned how to adjust for it, but I have always wanted to learn how to make my own form fitting pattern. I have been playing around with different patterns, and by the time I have finished my garment, it looks presentable in public, but only I know how many times I had to try it on and alter different spots until it was just right. I have watched all your tutorials on how to make bodice, skirt, sheath dress and darts and THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! You are a wonderful teacher and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with the world.

    Hi, I just want to say thank you for your tutorials. It helps me a lot since I love sewing and I really want to make my own garments and I found your videos very useful especially on how you explain the equations. But I would like to ask some help on making basic patterns for pants and simple corset. I've been searching for tutorials but unfortunately I can't find anything that has simple instructions for people who are not really familiar with this. I hope you can make a video for pants and corset making. I really love your channel and more power to you.

    This is your second video that I see but I have noticed that is old video, any way my coment or advice is that you have to make darts to the patter for a good fit, otherwise it's won't have a good fitting.

    you use a pattern stencil to create your paper pattern. how do you make that. Because with out it making the pattern seems difficult for a beginner like myself. I like how it came out. I just need to make sure that I follow the direction just how you did with all the supplies so mines can look just as great

    • @ThreadsByBD
      @ThreadsByBD  11 років тому

      Hi Frederica, the pattern stencil that we used to create the pattern is a basic bodice pattern. We show you how to make that in our first ever tutorial DIY-Basic Pattern Tutorial: The Bodice .We also added shoulder darts to the sheath dress that you see in this tutorial. We show how to incorporate those darts into the bodice in our Dart Tutorial DIY-Pattern Manipulation Tutorial: Darts .
      Hope that helps and thanks for watching and sharing. :)

    • @ThreadsByBD

      Yes you can, you just need to add a seam allowance of 1.27cm (1/2 Inch) to the full length of the bodice.

    why we don't add seem to arm hole?
    also how to add zipper please!

    • @ThreadsByBD
      @ThreadsByBD  10 років тому

      igiveup851 In my experience, when seam allowance is added at the armhole, seam allowance would also have to be added onto the sleeve pattern and that would make the overall pattern too tight around the armhole. Another reason is, if seam allowance is not added to the sleeve pattern but is added onto the armhole of the bodice pattern, the sleeve sits off the shoulder.

    • @FTA-0
      @FTA-0 10 років тому

      Black Diamond DIY Fashion Thanks for your explanation! wow.. I thought adding seams to the armhole or sleeve will make it wider not tighter!!

    How comes you call the shoulder seams darts I thought anything you add seam allowance to was a seam. But you call them darts even though you have split the pattern into separate pieces lol I'm confused I was told that, that (what you just showed) was a seam. Was my teachers wrong or is it something to do with the country I live in? Lol I hope this makes sense 😜

      +Shaih Seville
       Princess/Shoulder seams are long rounded seams
      sewn into women's blouses or shirts to add shaping or a tailored fit to
      closely follow a woman's shape. They are sewn into the front and/or back
      of a shirt, and extend from the waist up to the arms. Because they add shape and fit to a garment they are often referred to as darts.

    • @ashfordwyrd7458
      @ashfordwyrd7458 7 років тому

      No, it isn't. Darts require reduction. Seams without reductions are NOT darts. You are the only person who calls these style lines without reduction darts.

    I applaude your effort and kindness for making videos to teach others sewing and pattern making, but your patterns look wrong. The methods and materials to use are good, such as folding patterns in half, finding center shoulder, busy and waist... but a few things that look wrong are the armhole, which looks like it would have zero ease for arms to move around if it included sleeves. Also where you kept calling 'darts' are not darts at all. Darts are reductions in a pattern to create FORM and give the garment shape to fit the body and give it contour. Which means your waist measurement on your pattern should include the waist circumference PLUS the amount of reduction you would reduce later, which can range from .5" to several inches per bust dart according to cup size. Your "reduction" is at the side seams only, instead of where you kept calling "darts", which is really just a princess seam...which in your case is only a style seam and not a functional one (with reduction).
