- Knowing when and how to worm your goats is essential. This is probably the most important lesson of goat ownership.
Study this information and take it seriously.
80,0000 goats die a year from parasites. And I don't want those goats to be your goats.
The key lessons are:
Don't work on a schedule, worm when needed.
Learn how to do a fecal.
Use dewormers that work for the specific worm you're dealing with.
Dose properly.
Check regularly.

Delci I so appreciate you. I'm buying your book now. We love our goat binder, it has been a lifesaving resource!!
I’m so so glad!
BasicH1/4-1/2teaspoon per gallon of water. I did this as a last resort and was highly blessed with the results. I do not suggest that anyone do this on my advice but is your choice and your responsibility for making the decision. I can however say that I have never lost a goat chicken dog or pig from putting this in the water. 🙏🙏🙏
That’s really interesting! I’ll look into that! That’s for sharing!
I was just reading about this. I'm going to drench directly.
Where do you buy your BasicH
@@elizabethtunstall I bought mine directly from the company. You want the original formula and it's only available in 5 and 30 gallon buckets.
I just looked on their website and all I'm seeing is basicH2, is that the same that u use and do it use it in their water everyday? Thanks for the info. I'm definitely gonna get some.
Got it! Thank you so much!! ❤
What a great video, Delci! Thank you , and I really love your shirt!
I have the Goat Binder and I Love It very informative so I guess now I need this book 😊 I tell everyone about this book its awesome! Also don’t apologize for long videos those are the ones I enjoy when it’s informative or full goat births, I’ll be honest I just by pass my channels with only the five mins videos unless it’s one’s I follow closely like your channel and Sage and Stone and a few other channels then I’ll watch those but majority of the channels I just move on I don’t get anything knowledgeable out of five mins unless its a quick recipe. So keep the videos coming…LONG 😊
Great info
So glad it was helpful!
Do you have links for all the equipment that you used? Microscope, water/solution, etc.. thank you for the great info
You are very welcome!
You may have already found the info but here are the ones I got:

@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage So helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to provide all those links 🙏🏽
Wow Delci this was so helpful! Thank you! I have your goat binder and I’m going to order your parasite management book. Im going to also order a microscope and fecal kit so we can start doing our own fecals. Thanks again for all that you do to help us raise healthy and happy goats. God bless you and your family.
Thanks for the information
I love this video thanks
You are very welcome :)
Can you tell me please which dewormer you use??
@@leopoldoguerra8778
You really need to do a fecal to determine what worms you’re dealing with and then treat for that specific worm. You and I are probably dealing with different worms!
I am so happy to see you with that microscope, more power to the people! I'm getting one soon.
I live in the Caribbean
Great video! I worm my goats with herbal dewiormer and never had healthier goats! One of mine had 3000+ worms and was in horrible condition and within two weeks of the treatment she was already way fatter and looked amazing!
what herbal dewormer do you use?
That’s wonderful! 💪🏻
@@marisolcastor4204 a lot of people use Mollys Herbal wormer for goats
Wat is the name herbal dewomer?
I love your books and videos. They have tought me so much. Thank you
I just lost two younger doelings and then an adult pregnant goat😪😪😪
Once she started to have a dirty behind, i took the sample to the vet. Gave her and the rest what the doctor said, and yet they died literally days after deworning. For some reason, these were 3 unrelated red/ white goats, the rest, even related to the passed away, are differently colored and their FAMACHA is pink! Anybody heard anything color related?
I’m so very sorry. That’s so hard.
You’ll find that within a herd, even related animals all have different abilities and levels of resistance to parasites.
And if they are really loaded with worms they can more easily get sick. So it could have been a combo of being down from worms and then dying from pneumonia for instance.
Although you don’t know for sure without a necropsy.
Again, I’m so sorry.
Make sure the remaining goats get treated if need be.
LOVE the goat binder and when extra funds are available (we have been hit hard this last quarter with both children getting married, property taxes, and needing a new house roof) I will be purchasing the parasite book. Does that book recommend a brand of microscope or what to look for in one?
Everything always hits at once! I totally get that!!
It doesn’t recommend a Microscope. But just a lower cost one from Amazon or Walmart is fine :)
I’m trying to find the parasite binder, but not seeing it mentioned on your page. I’m really interested, but I’d like to make sure it’s coming with the Goat binder before I order!
When you complete the goat binder checkout, it will be offered on the second page 😊
Thanks for all the info. I'm in the sub-tropics in northern Australia and worms are the biggest health issue we have to deal with. In 20 years of owning goats, I've never seen a tapeworm, but barbers pole is an absolute nightmare. There is a vaccine available now for it, which I'm yet to try, called Barbervax. According to my vet, studies are showing that suseptabilty to parasites is a genetic issue, so something to be mindful of when breeding. I have 1 nanny that I won't breed again for that reason, and in time hopefully build a more relilient herd. I note that your method of administering the drench is reliant on a cooperative goat. 😃 I find that standing straddled over them forward facing, makes it much easier to hold their heads steady and erect, which enables the drench to flow down their throats more effectively. Having said that though, our drenches are liquid not paste form. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.
Do you try to treat the ground the goats live on when you find worms?
I want to learn how to do fecals so badly. I think I'm putting a microscope on my Christmas list!!
Yes! That’s a great present!
Good idea!
I have the stuff, but my eyes don't let me do it. I get instant eye strain and head ache, so I can't do them myself.
@@hickoryhillinthebigwoods-r759 have you seen the ones with a LCD screen on them? There's also types that can connect to a computer monitor!!
@@SageandStoneHomestead No, I haven't. I don't want to spend a lot of money on it, especially now a days.
@@SageandStoneHomestead I looked them up, not very expensive when you buy a cheap Chinese made one.
You need to weigh the faeces and measure the volume of solution. Also you need a mobile stage rather than move the egg counting chamber with your finger.
I want to know where I can get the goat weight tape like you have...could you provide a link?
heh! I was wondering if you tossed that baby food spoon back into the drawer!
I used commercial dewormers for my goats because to be honest I didn't know anything about herbal dewormers. I was the first in my family of 10 siblings to own a dairy goat herd. My mom milked cows but I got into dairy goats out of necessity. My youngest son had serious stomach issues and couldn't tolerate cows milk. One dairy goat led to two, and three and before long I had a herd. The whole family benefited from the milk but especially my 8 yr old.
I placed an order for some of your books last week. The money came out of my account. I've never got a confirmation email on this order. How do I check this.
Delci hi! I'm really new at owning goats. I have 2 whethers 1 buck and 3 does. I feed majority alfalfa/Timothy. I also feed peanut hay and very little grain. Unfortunately my goats don't get to free forge. I recently by accident found out my goats love Timothy grass that we feed our rabbits. Is it okay for my goats to have this? It is cut into short stripes and comes in a compressed bale. I live in Florida and all my hay is in a storage shed outside with no air. I keep an eye out for mold. I'm curious if Timothy grass is okay for my babies to eat. Thank you for these videos and my goat binder. You've helped me alot.
What wormer do you use? :)
So which workers did you use
I just bought your book. I have 18 goats that are different ages. I currently have 5 that are about to kid. Am I able to worm them while pregnant? I am guessing no. I live in west virginia and it is now getting cold. Some of them have the poop clustered. It looks likes the beads, just clustered together. I am needing to do my own fecal, as we dont have a vet within 150 miles.
There are ones safe for pregnancy!
The book will say which ones are safe.
Tapeworm is caused by fleas, and they are active anytime the temp is 32° or above. So should you also treat them for fleas?
I'm from India
How can I get that book
Thanks
Plz respond
I live in southeast texas its extremely humid and hot here most the year. Heamonchus worms are always a threat here(Barper Poles). I use herbal mixes for worm prevention to my dairy herd. Love the ears on your Oakum btw! Ive also been in the veterinary field for 9 years fecals have always been a favorite of mine. I love em lol
It really does have to become a love when we own goats (fecals) 😆❤️
Yeah, I’m sure I’d be in shock if I moved to warmer climates and my goats would too!
But maybe they’d prefer the worms to the -8° we had last night, I don’t know! 😂
Her ears are so cute! 😍
I am in northeast Texas, what herbal mix are you using for prevention?
I lost my favorite doe to barberpole. I just couldn't get a handle on it. I switched to herbals and adding wild orange Essential oil to destroy what's in the poop on the ground. I give the EO mix in a olive oil base thanks to some goat friends for teaching me this! It's once a week but beats losing them to BP. Im just so relieved to have a year now with no barberpole.
@@terril2643 I’m so sorry. It’s so tough to lose them.
That’s great advice using the orange EO!
Hey I need your help
How long should I wait to milk the goats after worming? We live in the south so sounds like worming would be regular
It depends on the type of wormer and the mode of delivery. There are wormer withdrawal charts online!
That’s right. It does depend on what’s given. *usually* ten days.
But don’t ever deworm without checking to see if they need it and what type of worms to deworm, so you get the proper medication.
Thank you both very much. Trying to get as much knowledge as possible before diving in.
Hi Delci. This is a bit off topic but how on earth do you keep your meds from freezing
Just this morning I was looking through them and rolling my eyes at myself. One thing I planned to get done before the cold was a little cabinet with insulation and a little heater to put it all in and it obviously didn’t get done and I obviously didn’t get this stuff in a box and brought in. 😬🫣
So, It’s on my earth and frozen 🥴
@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage 😢I did the same thing. I thought there was some trick I didn't know about. I'm really sorry
@@terril2643 I have all of my expensive stuff, dewormers and shot vials in the fridge inside. But yeah, the stuff outside is frozen. 🥶
@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage ❤️
Where can I find the parasites book?
vip.alifeofheritage.com 😊
@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage thank you!
Please it not fair if you are not telling us what you are using. You are educating so you should tell us your experience and what your vet prescribed.
The problem with this, is that you could be giving something that’s not effective in your area. Or not effective at treating the worms your goats are dealing with.
Getting those wrong can be a death sentence for your goats.
Do a fecal.
Find out what worms are ailing your goats.
And treat for those specific worms with the correct protocol.
@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage
Sorry, I don't agree with that because you are not telling your viewers what to buy but rather telling them to find out the specific worms before they act besides, they cannot buy some medicine without prescription and if it happens that, that medicine can be bought on amazon for the same type of worms, it will be an information. Your stipulation of not being a vet is also out there.
@@surprise4089 exactly. I’m not a vet. So get a vet to help you identify if you can’t yourself. And use the proper dewormer for the worms you’re dealing with that work in your area.
This is exactly why so many goats are dying from worms. Because people don’t understand them and aren’t willing to understand them and do things properly.
@@surprise4089 I totally agree… I went online & typed in
“goat medications & how to use them”
I printed it out & keep it in my supply cabinet. It is extremely informative.
Tells you about all the different types of medications for goats.
Including wormers’.
She made a very detailed video of almost 30 minutes of FREE EDUCATION. How dare you berate her for not giving you every piece of information you need. In her parasite book there is a chart with wormer options for the different parasites and dosages. If you don’t want to buy her book, which has an amazing amount of easy to understand info, you can Google charts ONCE YOU FIND OUT WHAT YOU ARE TREATING.
I would definitely recommend buying her book though because it’s very thorough info all in one place. I guess I’m just old school but I like having it in print too.
Those McMaster slides are $16/each. Are you testing all your goats with a new slide? Are those sterilizable? Never mind..further research shows they are made of acrylic and can be used numerous times and are soap and water cleansable per Amazon. The solution you use? I think it is Vetline fecal flotation solution. I’m sure the book will say it just attempting to figure out what to order.
The slide is reusable. Just clean it up really good between each one.
I read your comment a bit ago and now just realized you answered your own questions 😂
Will you treat the whole herd for the tapeworms or just that goat?
I treated just the ones who needed it.
That helps prevent resistance to the dewormers.
@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage I just ordered the parasite binder. Is it a hard copy or a digital copy? I assumed it was a hard copy before I ordered then it said it would be in my email shortly. This video was very informative and I’m confident in doing a fecal myself now. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
@@stephaniekirkland6046 it’ll be mailed. And you can look at the digital copy now too :)
Poor goaties!
Can you recommend a microscope?
Omg this chick is wayyy too detaildd no one wants to keep a damn binder on the goats
Records are a really important part of keeping healthy animals. I think it’s a wonderful resource.
Or do you like to be ignorant? That's ok,rest of us want to be informed.
I keep a journal in a cheap $2.00 spiral notebook on all my animals.
It’s basically a log. Breeding dates.
Who gave birth on what date.
Number of kids(?) live births/ deaths, weights…general notes.
Dates animals were wormed. Medication used. What was their dose(?)
Mite treatments if needed. Medications used. How much (?) injuries or accidents.treatments used.(?) etc. etc.
Vet visits to the farm. Dates goats hooves were clipped etc etc.
It’s not elaborate. Just something to look back on in case you forget a date etc. also keep track of # of males banded. One’s kept intact / sold for breeding stock. Etc.
I keep track of when a goat was sold & price.
Deaths… because it does & will happen.
In this notebook a record is kept for all my goats. I keep one on all my sheep & Meishan pigs too.
If you are going to be raising animals especially goats you’ve gotta keep track of the medications used.
Worms build up a resistance to vaccines.
You never want to go over board with these.
When in doubt .. call the vet.
Most first time goat owners’ do not see the need to keep a notebook. As time goes on you’ll realize the importance of it.
As your herd grows you will need a notebook, journal, ledger whatever ya want to call it. There is no way to remember it all. Good luck to all you 🫵goat lovers’💕👍
