I started flying Falcon 4.0 in 1999 and bought my first Cougar in 2001. I have had a total of 6 over the years and all are now broken and worn beyond repair. As an exclusive F-16 simmer there is no replacing the TQS when driving the Viper. No matter how many inputs and axis another throttle may have, it’s simply not as efficient when fighting the aircraft. I specifically miss the antenna elevation knob. I received my notification for purchase Wednesday and expect the Orion to be here late next week. I am absolutely stoked! Well done WinWing. Wicked

VKB did the exact same thing and the prices are the same with only the Dollar sign being changed to a Euro sign, and even counting the difference in worth between a Euro and a Dollar that wouldn't amount to more than 5 dollars per unit. All of those import duties when purchasing products from an overseas company are placed upon the consumer by the European Union to protect the EU's own economy. As soon as there's a branch office of some company inside the EU this problem magically disappears, because they now need to pay taxes and license costs in Europe. It is the most bullshit, anti-consumer law in this whole continent, in my opinion, and would never have been necessary if there was enough competition and variety in the market.

Would love to see a video where you guys go over the best, cheapest and with fewest parts, way to simulate as many aircraft controls as you can. A few companies offer different grips for stick and throttle so i wonder on the different permutations...such as what stick and throttle base would be best to cover older planes, which would be the best jack of all trades, the least you can spend and still simulate the most aircraft etc.

The throttle is excellent for the Mirage, really all modern single engine jets and even the AV8B. For multi engine aircraft, there really isn’t a convenient way to manipulate both throttles. One hinderance of the design of the base is the sliders sit underneath the grip and are difficult to access quickly. After using a Warthog for 7 years It’s taking some time to build new muscle memory… for ALL of the switches. The grip is meant for the 16 but you can buy the 18 grips and swap them out! With the Orion base you have three swappable options for grips: F-16 single engine, F/A-18 dual grips (for all 2 engine aircraft) and a collective for Helo’s…. Good stuff.
Hi Rick, I set the throttle to zero, as the arc length of the throttle's travel is a bit longer than the former f-18 due to it's added height. On the Orion stick base I set it to 9. On the Libre base with extension, I set it to zero as well.

Great review and thanks for the walkthrough of the construction procedure. One question I have - on startup of the F-16 , when you come out of cutoff and lock into idle, does that replicate in DCS World.?

Thank you Carsten. The hole pattern of the Orion throttle base matches up with the TM hole pattern. With the f-16EX adapter on the Orion, there's no way to use the left side mounting holes. But I can ensure you, you will not need them. The right side bolts/nuts hold the Orion securely on the plate.
@@wildbillkelso2083 There is a way though. On the riser, unscrew the bolt on the outboard side holding in the angle bracket from below. Mind the spring washer. Slide a nut (2 extra are provided) into the channel and reassemble the previously mentioned bolt. Now you have two "trapped" nuts in each channel. It may be fiddly but, manipulate the nut (shake it a bit, pick at it with something) until it lines up with your base mount. Measure the available depth and choose the appropriate screw. One M4x16 each with one flat and one spring washer will secure the thing to a standard warthog base plate (3mm thick).
@@HakureiMikko you are correct, that is an option, however from my experience so far, it is not necessary, as the two screws on the right side of the base are more than sufficient to hold the throttle base securely to a mounting plate.
Great work on this presentation Gents! It's been a few months, how is the durability of the unit? does the roller on the vertical frame show or feel a level of wear?
Thanks, I've not had any issues so far, although I did move the throttle handle from the original Orion base to the Orion 2 base which required me to change the metal rail too. the roller bearing etc. on the throttle handle is still good.
Cure for the two screws. I took a long hex key put double sided tape and stuck the nut to it and slid it in the the Monstertech bracket, when I could see the nut I put in the screw and all four are nice and tight.
I hear the mention that the Super Taurus base will be adapted for the F-16 throttle... so now I am wondering if that is a better choice since it appears to have more functions. I have a feeling I will end up with both since I will get the existing setup when available and then have to add/swap to the Super Taurus later when it is ready.

You are welcome. It is so new, and we've been literally head down doing the reviews, I haven't bound it to other modules yet. I use a predator mounts for the throttle and the the wheel stand pro. Skil uses the wheel stand pro and monster tech mount.
Thanks for this, very helpful. This looks like a good option. The negative for me is the shipping and import costs. Can someone give any feedback on this, or Winwing in general, if sent to the UK. Shipping everything in different boxes is a real PITA if you have to stay at home for multiple deliveries. Probably an easy way to increase profit. Thanks for any feedback.
It's worth it. I purchased the Winwing F-18 grip about a year ago, it did come in like 4 boxes and the shipping was a chunky part that I didn't think about (to US), but FEDEX delivered them on the same day. The instructions are a little here and there, but I've never been more pleased to fly than now

Get one if you can get one! They sell out so fast! The stick sold out today setting the hotas bundle to an unknown restock date. The restock date for the HOTAS was Feb 15th before that happened. Now it's unknown. Meaning they sold all of the sticks with no regard to the bundle! UGH!!
Not quite enough to make me abandon my Cougar with the Realsim adapter, BUT...I do dig what WINWING is doing with these modular throttles. I hope they continue to release more variations, although it would also be nice if they were a little easier/quicker to swap out
How’s the Cougar stick with the RealSim base? Can you describe your experience with it? Also there is a few mentions of less than perfect mechanic connection between the two - how did you deal with it? And did you consider replacing the Cougar grip with the RealSim grip?

When you do the stick Review I thought the f16 stick worked on pressure sensors IE the stick was solid and had no x y movement like the saitek x65f stick which i use . Must be 8year old if not more and still going strong
The f16 stick is all metal, and uses the Orion stick base which is a metal roller-cam system. It'll also work with the double-cam Super Libra base. So no pressure sensor.
That's a clever way to mimic the mechanical motion of a Viper throttle. Unfortunately, for an extra $100 and a lot of hassle, it seems like you're actually losing a little functionality relative to the Hornet handle.
I’m having an issue binding the MAN RNG. DCS doesn’t seem to recognize it. Do you have it as an axis or switch? The switch recognizes it but it won’t work as it seems to increase and decrease HUS symbology instead even thou it’s not mapped 🤷♂️ Any help would be helpful.
Hi RRod. When you calibrate your throttle with SimApp Pro, you'll move the throttle from Idle to full-afterburner, and NOT all the way back to cuttoff. When you bind the throttle in any of the DCS modules, it'll set the cutoff position automatically. Not showing it in the video was a fail on my part. Sorry about that. I'll make sure to show it in video #3 of the series.
They will if they have a mind to. It's modular. It can change . . . it requires work and patience. Only other choice is to buy duplicates in different flavors.

I do like the F-16 EX extra controls to map. I'm stuck in the middle because I can always get the f-18 or the f16 grip later. Throttle grip that is I just don't know. Ty! Wonderful review!
Mine finally came in the mail after almost 2 weeks. Sadly in my case the stick came incomplete and not threaded properly so retention screw won’t properly line up with the flat bit (had this same issue with my Hornet set and didn’t know better back then… that stick is now permanently stuck to my original Orion base… Odds are when the Taurus Upgrade comes out I will buy!

Probably be using that red engine disengage button as the countermeasures slap switch that’s off to the left of the throttle on the wall in the actual aircraft. Might buy a large cheap red USB button to do that job in the future.
I just ordered mine, I currently have the TM Warthog HOTAS. I mostly fly the F-16 and was looking at the TM version, but it seemed kind of a wanker so I bought the WinWing instead. Thanks for the review-
It is a compromise as a modular throttle base. It has names for all the basic flight controls, many more than some. Given the engineering, tooling, and market for dozens of DCS modules, making many aircraft specific controls would be too costly.
It’s not you : the man r bring is hard to turn. The button need more texture to get better grip, or the construction should have zero play in it, so it doesn’t wobble and thus bind itself (metal parts that don’t flex might do the trick).
Have you considered the scenario of a Russian sympathetic political party becoming the ruling government in the UK, committed to leaving NATO, and forming some sort of alliance with Russia, the British military seeks help from the US to leave the UK as quickly as possible, surface and subsurface Royal Navy vessels, the RAF with modern aircraft and munitions, ground forces with as much of their equipment as possible, after the rescue, a few months have passed and the British public have taken to the streets in a violent protest against the government, the US and UK military form a joint operation to help protesters in order to prevent Russia setting up their military bases in the UK, is that a scenario you may be interested in
Could you do that scenario, Grim Reapers providing air cover for the rescue efforts, then air cover to assist the protestors, with the Russian Navy parked off the coast of the UK

It wouldn't change anything. Direct or from EU distributor we have to pay tax and import duty either by own thing or included in distributor price.

Does it have button functions for IDLE/Cutoff?? If not how do you program it so that moving the throttle to IDLE and Cutoff work in DCS?

Probably be using that red engine disengage button as the countermeasures slap switch that’s off to the left of the throttle on the wall in the actual aircraft. Might buy a large cheap red USB button to do that job in the future.
I just ordered mine, I currently have the TM Warthog HOTAS. I mostly fly the F-16 and was looking at the TM version, but it seemed kind of a wanker so I bought the WinWing instead. Thanks for the review-

Shame the base unit is a mix of viper and hornet. Not too keen on the throttle cable solution either.
@@Melkor54 Why not produce a F16 specific TQS? They already produce an FA-18 item. Just curious, how long have you owned your throttle?
It is a compromise as a modular throttle base. It has names for all the basic flight controls, many more than some. Given the engineering, tooling, and market for dozens of DCS modules, making many aircraft specific controls would be too costly.
It’s not you : the man r bring is hard to turn. The button need more texture to get better grip, or the construction should have zero play in it, so it doesn’t wobble and thus bind itself (metal parts that don’t flex might do the trick).

DCS F16 I fly it. Not buying that monstrosity looks like a headache to avoid.
I'm using the F-16 stick at moment, it's brill!
@@grimreapers that is good to hear the advances being made are amazing. My concern was the assembly. I went with the V guys the throttle comes ready to go. Very useful for DCS. Thanks for the video and being on top of new sim equipment.
