Yes, I've noticed it too! I used to be a huge Fossil girlie, but stopped when I noticed the quality wasn't as good as before. Now I can't believe I've haven't bought something from the store in years!
Thanks Suz! It is a shame, I feel bad bringing it up because I’ve always enjoyed their quality, but it’s to the point where they need to lower their prices.
I agree. Some of their styles are so plain, and I actually like minimalist designs. If I buy anything else from them, it will probably have to be with a mega huge discount...
I bought a Fossil bag about 2 years ago. Within 3 months the strap started peeling and cracking. I bought it for work thinking it would hold up to daily use. I was so disappointed. I have a wallet from 10 years ago that still looks very nice. Crazy!
You are so right! I have an older wallet and it has changed and is so sad! They do kind of look plastic and less leather. I think lots of companies are cutting cost corners that they didn’t used to do that.
Thank u for sharing this video. I noticed a change in the Fossil leather years ago. And they aren't the only company. Dooney and Coach to me have changed their leather as well. And i was a big Vera Bradley fan 25 years ago. They also have changed the quality of their fabric. I saved my vintage handbags which are in excellent condition and compared them. Its not the same! Definitely! So if i want a REAL leather handbag that smells and feels amazing my go to is Go Fourth Goods, or Portland Leather Goods. Personally I dont need a name brand especially if it doesn't feel like leather. And to me now we are paying for the name only. Quality is gone! Its so sad.
OMG I am so happy I found this!!! I used to love Fossil and suggest it as a great value to people who wanted something more than target pleather bags/wallets but weren’t ready to spend $200 for a Coach/Kate Spade/ Tory Burch contemporary bag. I’ve been so disappointed in Fossil but thought maybe I’d become a bag snob. I’ve moved away and now buying independent manufacturers that aren’t national brands for the entry level leather bags.
Totally agree with you. I went into a Fossil store today and was shocked by the poor quality. I had a Fossil bag with me and challenged the salesperson to compare mine with the ones in the shop. He said he couldn’t tell me details, but that during COVID they changed how they make their bags. Just terrible quality but the prices were higher than ever. I will never buy a new one again. I might buy second hand if it was made before 2019.
I agree. I bought a bag 2 years ago, and it was horrible. I bought it directly from the boutique and it was so thin I thought it wasn't real leather. I now buy Dooney and Bourke. I love the 2 bags I purchased from them this year.
I just purchased the Fossil Sydney in Raisin. They have been sold out from this color in years. As soon as I seen it i had to snatch it up!! I also want to get the color Chocolate Ganache. I’m still a fossil girl for life!!
The decline has been taking place over many years. I've also had Fossil bags going back 20+ years, and the leather used to be thick, natural grain leather. Around 10 years ago, they started switching to different varieties of leather, which were thinner, pebbled leather or smooth. I'm not a fan of pebbled so I would buy only bags that were smooth. You could also see even on the smooth leather bags that the front pieces were higher quality while the back were thinner and inclined to crease. Still all leather though. A couple years ago though, I realised they had been mixing leather and PU leather when I read the description, so that's when I started becoming really careful what I look at. They are basically the same as my half-leather sofa recliner which has started peeling in all the worst places.
Thanks for sharing this video. I haven’t bought anything from Fossil in a few years but even on the website the leather doesn’t look the same especially by the name they are calling it. Also too expensive. I have a Sydney satchel and it’s the older one I think I bought it around 2017 or 2018. It is soft and still looks good. But now I rather have PLG and receive so many discounts along with sales. 😊👜💕🌷
I suspect they were probably bought by a private equity firm, who tend to take cost cutting measures to increase revenues. When Fossil started mixing real leather with faux leather, I think that is when it started to decline. Faux leather does not age well like leather. I had a cute Fossil wallet that I used sporadically, and the faux leather interior started cracking and peeling, I was so disappointed. If you look at the older bags, they feel more substantial because they used real leather and quality hardware. The new Fossil unfortunately is not as high quality and I would not pay more than the amount you stated. They come out with cute styles but when I look at the leather content and the look of the leather, I don't bother buying anymore. I'll keep what I have and just purchase preloved bags. Thanks for pointing out what I've been thinking about too.😊
😕🙁☹I totally agree. I had ordered 3 different handbags at different times from Fossil, and return them all. The leather, to me, was questionable and the structure was flimsy. I have enough Fossil bags from many years past and I have to be happy with them, because I don't even visit their website. I don't want to like a bag, purchase it and return it. Thanks for this video, I thought I was the only person who notice the Fossil Fiasco😎
I’m glad to see I wasn’t just being too picky 😝 Luckily I have a Fossil store nearby so I could see them in person if I want to, but I’m not anticipating getting more.
I just dashed to Ebay and picked myself up a gorgeous vintage Fossil bag in the old style thick tan / caramel leather. I cant wait to bring it back to life and use it. I was shocked at the shoddy quality that Fossil has become. They are selling nothing but inferior products with lazy customer service.
Hello there! In the world of leather there is one company that uses full grain leather that is so gorgeous! This company is called KMM & Co and it is in Atlanta Georgia. It's all made in the USA with leather tanneries in the USA. KMM has many different leathers. All gorgeous! Prices are reasonable for what you get. I have 70+ bags from KMM and love all the different leathers. Maybe give it a try? You won't be dissapointed. God Bless
Both leather and eco-leather are made from animal hides, however, instead of using a traditional hide preservation process, eco-leather uses a more eco-friendly tanning method, eliminating salt and ultimately the salt-rinsing process. A way to save money. I prefer cowhide. Your bags are lovely. I buy fossil cheap to because of same reasons as you.
I used to tell people that fossil was just as good as Coach or Dooney. I don’t do that anymore. I have had the same experience of having my Fossil in the closet for almost a year, when I took it out to use, it too had self destructed. I’ve never bought a fossil since. Dooney and Coach have also started to use cheaper materials. Some new Coach bags can cost almost $1000. It’s nothing for Dooney to start at 500. So sad.
It’s so sad. I have to say the quality of my new Dooney’s is just as nice as ever, and Coach quality seems to have gone up! Even the outlet bags are pretty darn good now. It’s so sad that Fossil has sunk so low.
@@VintageSac Dooney is no longer using leather key leashes in their bags. In my opinion, Coach bags don’t have the various pockets for organization that they used to have. I don’t like my things in my bag to be in a jumble. I use an organizer or pouches to help keep my contents sorted out. I still buy both brands because they are gorgeous bags.
Thank you for this video! Very disappointed in the longevity of products I bought from them in 2018 to 2020. A brown leather tote I didn't even use much is now scratched up on the outside, you can see patches in the leather. The strap on a satchel started flaking badly, didn't realise some of their straps are PU leather. Not impressed
You’re welcome! I waited so long to make it, because I loved Fossil for years. But at this point they don’t seem to love their customers 😒 How can the leather quality decline so much?
Wow this is so dissapointing to see. I remember their leather was buttery soft and pebbled and high quality. When you told us the bottom of the new bags is PU my jaw dropped. I am appalled! A Fossil brand item that is supposed to be known for quality is cutting corners like that? Big fail. Thank you for sharing!
Glad to help! When customer service answers about the parts that are PU, they usually just say the underside of the handles. It’s actually the trim, the handles, and the straps.
My recent leather bags from fossil, within the last 7 years, have all aged horribly. For the price, they might as well have been bought at Walmart. I'll not give them any more of my money.
Thanks for making this video. I agree. The newer bags they’re coming out with has cheaper feeling. I’ve hesitated lately buying their bags. But knowing myself. If the price is right I might still buy it. 😅Since I’ve bought bags that are not leather before for example Telfar. I recently got a Rachel I’m not loving how it feels. I wish I kept the one I got 2yrs+ ago. Most of the contemporary brands are doing them too. I’ve notice Michael Kors you have to read their fine prints. I’ve seen videos that are shock their bag was not leather. I agree with you theirs going to be a price point I’m willing to pay. This is when I start looking back to PLG and other smaller companies. Great review. Beautiful Fossil bags collections. 🧡💛🤎
Thanks Raq! Yes, I totally agree that you have to be a detective now that MK sells their vegan bags for $300. Crazy times! I’m sorry to hear they even changed the leather on the Rachel 😢 Did you do a video on it, it would be good to see ❤️
Thanks for sharing this. Isn’t it sad so many companies are going this direction? 😢
It is very sad, it feels like there is no pride in workmanship anymore. A brand name is just the name without the reputation 😔
Yes, I've noticed it too! I used to be a huge Fossil girlie, but stopped when I noticed the quality wasn't as good as before. Now I can't believe I've haven't bought something from the store in years!
That is disappointing as Fossil had such a great reputation. The last purchase is really pretty. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛
Thanks Suz! It is a shame, I feel bad bringing it up because I’ve always enjoyed their quality, but it’s to the point where they need to lower their prices.
This is timely as I was just looking at some other expensive faucet bags online. Thank you.
If you get one, let me know what the leather quality is like. They can’t all be bad - can they?☺️
@@VintageSac now I'm thinking I won't. I do like some bags by the Hobo brand, do you have any of them?
@lynnmckenzie4841 I don’t!
I agree. Prices are way too expensive for the quality and lack of detail.
I agree. Some of their styles are so plain, and I actually like minimalist designs. If I buy anything else from them, it will probably have to be with a mega huge discount...

Oh, that’s awful! So disappointing and definitely not worth their prices anymore.
The goal is to make as cheap as they can and keep the higher price tag. I've seen Coach and MK do the same
Even LV and Chanel! Yeah, I stopped buying MK for the same reason, I didn’t feel like playing detective to see they were now selling $300 vegan bags.
You are so right! I have an older wallet and it has changed and is so sad! They do kind of look plastic and less leather. I think lots of companies are cutting cost corners that they didn’t used to do that.
I guess we need to hang on to our older bags 😉

Wow, that’s crazy that Vera bags have even changed! I’m really happy with Ralph Lauren for quality leather. PLG is definitely a good option, too.
@@VintageSac Ralph Lauren? Okay I didn’t kno that. I will definitely check that out.

Hii. I’m wondering if I should keep my fossil bag. Does the pu trims peel?
I haven’t had any trim peel on me yet. It is very durable.
If you check the website the Emery does say it is leather and polyurethane
