I first became an SGA fan in the 19-20, where he played alongside CP3, Adams and Gallo in a really fun OKC team. He was the team's top scorer, tying defenders into knots with his shifty handles. But he was clearly not the finished article; he was slender and lacked physicality, and he was still very inexperienced. CP mentioned in one interview that he had to give Shai a crash course in dealing with traps mid game, because he had never encountered a trapping defense before. Shai struggled badly in the playoffs against the small ball Harden Rockets, unable to get going against their switching defense and getting hunted in isolation on the other end. 5 years later, he's developed into the total package. Faster, stronger, smarter, tougher. There's no scheme he doesn't know to attack, only a handful of defenders who can hang with him in isolation. Much like Luka Doncic, he'll roast his man mercilessly to provoke help, then hit his open teammates with precise passing. Unlike Luka, who will shoot from anywhere and any angle, he's very disciplined in his shot selection; he wants to get into the paint and avoids long two, only shoots 3s when he's got time and firm footing. He also doesn't mind playing off the ball for spells, ceding the offense not only to J-Dub and Caruso but even Lu Dort, setting screens, spotting up, making back cuts. And to top it off, he's become a legit defender, defending a wide range of players with a mix of long arms, good feet and wiry strength. No one hunts him now. Its between him and Jokic for MVP. Both men would be worthy winners, and both would have been worthy last season, IMO. I personally would like to see Shai getting commended for making the kind of leap in his game few players ever do. It speaks volumes about his work ethic and ambition.

Well, it's much easier to score when you are allowed to freely create separation with the arm. SGA is a great player but he always displaces defenders with the arm, something that should be considered an offensive foul. However if the defender even touches him it's immediately a foul.
According to your logic the refs ahould be blowing their whistle twice as much as they already di in the NBA. If your right and that should be a foul then the NBA would be a snooze fest where nobody ever goes to the paint with the ball and players would have more of a reason to chuck up threes ever single play.
@@pasteee3216 You have great comprehension skills, I see. Which part of the previous post you didn't read when I said that too many fouls are called against the defense? The refs whistle only fouls against the defense, not allowing any contact whatsoever, however they allow the constant breaking of rules against the defense. It is this unbalance that creates the "snooze fest" you talk about. Nobody likes to watch players being able to travel, palm the ball, dislodging defenders freely with the arm and getting bailed out by the refs by any minimal contact, as that removes any skill whatsoever from the equation and it removes any weapon the defense has to actually being able to defend. Even if that was true, then we should say Mitchell is the MVP, not SGA. Also, the way OKC lost in the tournament final match is a big minus for SGA's storyline. You might say "but they at least got to the finals". NBA doesn't work that way. Losing in the finals is worse than not reaching it.

Thats just not true. Just off the top of my head....Luka's step back, Brunson on the elbows, Jokic on the block, Curry dribbling off the curl screen, Trae's high pick/roll, Embiid face up at the elbow. And trust me (a 2000s era Knicks fan), there were only a handful of guys doing it back then too. The rest were also throwing together dribble combos and taking whatever shot it happens to generate. Those shots were just more often than not contested long 2's because the spacing was terrible and they werent as good at shooting 3s off the dribble

OKC's defense has been absolutely elite this season and that has been a total team performance with great coaching and great effort Their offense meanwhile, has been significantly worse than even last year, with the lack of a floor spacing center named Chet Holmgren and a team wide drop in 3FG%. Yet they're still scoring a lot of points and it's all thanks to their superstar, who's been unbelievably good on offense all year long. What is happening now feels like a fever dream after the last 16 years of watching this team. Historic defense and MVP candidate all while missing our second best player. It's getting harder every game to not see the rings.
As a big grizz fan I’ve seen them take out some of the best scoring guards out of the game multiple times but shai is just unbelievable. I felt hopeless for the defenders watching him cook in every way. He’s my MVP
He's really made himself into a great player and then is being great again. Now he's being smooth, rangy, crafty, shifty, and finding his comfortable ways to take and make 3s efficiently. Even looking at his draft comps, he's significantly better than anyone he was compared to.

All around scoring, post, finishing, middy, handles once he continues to develop the 3 ball he’s going to be up there with kyrie as most skilled player when it’s all said and done
I feel like these youtube channels are the only way to truly understand nba teams. Nba halftime or anaylasis shows never do the justice of actually breaking down these teams.
Clips like this should be shown to all the people like "I dont watch NBA because its boring now, please 90s and Jordan come back etc". Threse is a lot of beauty in the game these days, you just have to watch the games to see it. Nowadays people just watch box scores or highlights.
Ayo real talk bro I got a question, should refs allow more bumps from the defensive stand point like the early 2000s? I ask because it seems as tho no one wants to take the chance due to foul trouble however if these bumps from the offensive position creates space then that’s gotta be foul written too correct? Because honestly think about it SGA is amazing but ain’t no fkn way he’s bumping Ben Wallace out position let alone dpoy Dwight Howard can’t even mention Shaq he’d never come down lane lol but like I’m just saying defensively we should bring back some allowed bumps and not call it a blocking foul because positionally it keeps players in front of them. Let me know your thoughts.
Aye naw that's legit though. In all fairness, I feel like once the ball handler initiates contact, then the defender has a right to return it with equal or less force and non use of the limbs. SGA has mastered that shoulder bump to the T! He hitchu with it at the right time,, with just the right amount of torque on it, to not look overly offensive (In some cases that can be argued,) Allowing him to get clean shot release. Arts n Crafts
Yes, not in SGA's case but Kawhi, Lebron, Embiid and Giannis eat off initiating that first bump and then getting free throws when the defender tries to match their physicality
Shai cooks em any time. Hell, you are asking for worse. The OKC defense is terrorizing and has more steals than forced turnovers. You're asking for teams to get drilled.
"Lol the Bucks locked him down" The fact that 21 points (which would still rank 30th as a season average) is considered "locking him down", does more to reinforce the unguardable moniker than debunk it.
Hey Hoop Venue, what music plays in the background of your videos? I'd love to listen to just those smooth beats while studying, etc. Great breakdown as always!
Too big and strong vs smaller guards, too fast for slow bigs, too crafty for drop cover defenders. He improved so much on his shot creation off the dribble, he has all the counters needed, even when the defense did everything perfectly, he can hit tough shots. Good vision to punish double teams. Basically always a mismatch.
It's interesting to see the MVP discussion be for the best of their positions. Best Center - Jokic Best Forward - Giannis Best Guard - Shai While they are all historically great offensively, only one of them would count as a monster on defense. That's why I'd say Giannis is the MVP right now
@lamarjackson9182 That's just wrong when Giannis is averaging more points LMAO. What are you talking about. Giannis is averaging 32.6 while Shai is at 31.3. On what planet does scoring less = a large difference in his favor? Shai has one more stock per game which is good but then you compare that to Giannis having double his rebounds on both ends of the floor and that spells it out. Giannis is better on both ends of the floor than Shai though Shai is unguardable and the new generation KD unquestionably in my opinion. OKC connection and all.
i literally anytime he shoots a jumper inside the arc damn near count it as ✌🏾pts cause damn near automatic every game crazy he’s so much like kobe but people ain’t ready for that convo
i really think the voters for mvp should take into consideration the fact that jokic dont give a f about this individual accolades and start giving it to guys that are interested in them while still playing to jokic s level
There's no-one on Jokic's level he's in his own realm. Just like prime MJ and Bron no-one else in their era compared to them in their prime, Jokic is the same. It goes Jokic, followed by Luka/Shai/Giannis, then Steph/KD/Tatum/Embiid/Whoever else I missed, then everyone else
The real mvp it’s disgusting how jokic fans constantly change the mvp narrative lol if stats were the main motivator in winning the mvp why didn’t Luka win it last year ? Dude averaged a 35 point triple double pretty much
Because the media had a hard on for Embiid and desperately wanted him to have one until finally realised he's kind of a fraud. Also Luka is a white European. And in case you haven't noticed the League does not want to promote either Jokic or Luka for that reason
Shout out to his coach for not being an analytic junkie and killing the mid range. As much as I love Joe mazzula I truly believe if Tatum gets in his Carmelo bag it’s over for the league. Sga gets to his spot effortlessly in the mid range and shoots it over 50% but hey we won a chip doing what we do so we’ll see.

6:10 or so. "Goues under this one". Pauses with the pickers feet in the air sideways b.c. he was clearly moved sideways during the pick. Not discounting SGA here but if the NBA wants fewer 3s they need to stop ignoring so many illegal screens.
They should be. Most of the stuff you see on the media are the most exaggerated ones. Just like people talking about being a free throw merchant when he still gets 30 without free throws, and actually barely gets any calls for the amounts of drives he takes.
Some of the ones he was throwing on Divo and more egregiously on Naz Reid really aren't. Does a nice job of not getting his elbow to high but it's more than just a torso lean with the shoulder, he really gets purchase from his hand -> arm lol That's up to the refs and the players to sell the call but now look at the product of the game His step back game is improving so he can still be effective against bigger AND stronger guys

Shai will be the Kobe of this generation… I’ve been saying it for years man. He’ll be an all time great.
No he won’t stop comparing him to Kobe
@@jalynjones9136feels like he already is . He plays more like Tracy mc grafy
@@jalynjones9136 what makes you say that besides nostalgia
Exactly by Kobe of this generation even means? Do you mean his popularity? I don’t get the comparison because SGA plays nothing like Kobe
@ Kobe was a scorer so is Sga .
I’m watching the Thunder every time they play. Can’t wait to see them play once with a completely healthy team.
0-0? Get the Dub.
SGA deserves to win MVP with the insane numbers he's putting while OKC is the best team in the west.
shai is the closest thing we’ve seen to prime harden (2016-2017) and it’s insane close if we talking about unguardable
He and Ant really feel like different versions of what Dwade would be in this modern era.
100% agree, Wade's so underrated!
@@dondahighhh12 see that’s why we need Kenny Lofton jr. in the NBA or that type of bully ball big defender, even Wemby has trouble with him.
Shai should win MVP this year
You’d be a good scout, dude
Appreciate that!
FINALLY. I love this dude. Aura and everything, i dont care if its glaze!
bring back handchecking.
Shai cooks em any time.
Hell, you are asking for worse. The OKC defense is terrorizing and has more steals than forced turnovers. You're asking for teams to get drilled.
Shai is still unguardable but PLEASE bring back defense
"Lol the Bucks locked him down"
The fact that 21 points (which would still rank 30th as a season average) is considered "locking him down", does more to reinforce the unguardable moniker than debunk it.
Hey Hoop Venue, what music plays in the background of your videos? I'd love to listen to just those smooth beats while studying, etc.
Great breakdown as always!
This guy is the reason Anthony Edwards will be all nba 2nd team for years to come .
Thunder Up! ⛈️
Shai is so nice😍 absolutely unguardable😫 the best🐐
As someone with him on my fantasy, I must say I love what I’m seeing
Ja Morant should watch him play…not a showtime player but an effective player..not prone to injury..
Ja Morant is playing more off ball and scoring off the dribble than attacking to the rim. He’s improving his game as we speak.
69 games.
Nice 👌
He needs a real nickname. SGA ain’t enough for this talent.
Best pushoffs in the league. Makes MJ’s Push on Byron Russell look like baby food
The REAL MVP
It's interesting to see the MVP discussion be for the best of their positions.
Best Center - Jokic
Best Forward - Giannis
Best Guard - Shai
While they are all historically great offensively, only one of them would count as a monster on defense. That's why I'd say Giannis is the MVP right now
Shai is also elite on defense, he's not QUITE the defender Giannis is but he's a top 5 guard defender in the nba at worst
But giannis has been missing games@@ryanamburgy2791
Giannis is not seeing Shai or Jokic this year
the difference between shais and giannis offense is way bigger than the one on defense lmao
Definition of unguardable
2 seconds from half-court to bucket is fucking WILD
Shai is fr unguardable
Win a championship if the team is so good.👀
Bet on Shai always!
i really think the voters for mvp should take into consideration the fact that jokic dont give a f about this individual accolades and start giving it to guys that are interested in them while still playing to jokic s level
Beautiful breakdown
Thanks!
He is the clear MVP
He looks kinda skinny but he’s still super strong to be able to bump off defenders.
As much as they’re already validated, Shai and Tatum are still underrated imo.
They play the Knicks in two days. Interesting contest.
Don’t understand why the league doesn’t advertise this team more. They pretty much do everything that people claim to want.
Completely agree
If the nuggets finish worse than 2nd seed, SGA is my MVP
The real mvp it’s disgusting how jokic fans constantly change the mvp narrative lol if stats were the main motivator in winning the mvp why didn’t Luka win it last year ? Dude averaged a 35 point triple double pretty much
Because the media had a hard on for Embiid and desperately wanted him to have one until finally realised he's kind of a fraud. Also Luka is a white European. And in case you haven't noticed the League does not want to promote either Jokic or Luka for that reason
SGA is just at the start of his prime as well, guys a problem for years to come
Shout out to his coach for not being an analytic junkie and killing the mid range. As much as I love Joe mazzula I truly believe if Tatum gets in his Carmelo bag it’s over for the league. Sga gets to his spot effortlessly in the mid range and shoots it over 50% but hey we won a chip doing what we do so we’ll see.
These kind of crazy games he has, still 3rd in mvp race. Nba these days are crazy..
MVP
simple but deadly
He needs an MVP
Ausar Thompson just entered the chat
CP3 is the best pure point guard of all time. Sorry Magic/Nash/Stockton stans but its very obvious. CP3's affect on Shai CANNOT be overstated
1. Old a$$ CP3 made GS the #1 bench in the NBA last year
2. Literally EVERY SINGLE TEAM hes been on has gotten better when he arrived and were worse when he left.
3. No other guard has his TO/Assist ratio especially during Paul's prime
4. The league CHEATED Paul multiple times which prevented him from getting at least 1 ring (Donald Sterling year and infamously getting veto'd in the Kobe trade)
Andre Jackson jr is all I’ve gotta say
AJAX did well, but he was also giving shai issues. He did hit him on a jumpshot anyways.
With chet to space the floor, the bucks game could be different.
Bucks and Celtics, maybe cavs, are the only teams to beat them
6:10 or so. "Goues under this one". Pauses with the pickers feet in the air sideways b.c. he was clearly moved sideways during the pick. Not discounting SGA here but if the NBA wants fewer 3s they need to stop ignoring so many illegal screens.
Didn't Andre Jackson guard him pretty well in the cup final??
Definitely one of the better matchups I've seen
Shai is literally a system
Quote that shit 🥷
Please do more 15 minute videos not 25+
Haven't watched yet but I know it will be banger
SGA reminds me of prime paul george , they both play like guards while being taller than one
Just wondering are his push-offs really legal?
They should be. Most of the stuff you see on the media are the most exaggerated ones. Just like people talking about being a free throw merchant when he still gets 30 without free throws, and actually barely gets any calls for the amounts of drives he takes.
Some of the ones he was throwing on Divo and more egregiously on Naz Reid really aren't. Does a nice job of not getting his elbow to high but it's more than just a torso lean with the shoulder, he really gets purchase from his hand -> arm lol
That's up to the refs and the players to sell the call but now look at the product of the game
His step back game is improving so he can still be effective against bigger AND stronger guys
You’ve clearly never watched Kyrie - the king of the push off - play.
2019 James Harden vibes
SGA is the real deal. Unlike that tiny Ant in Minnesota, who can’t even handle a double team. 🤦♂️
didn’t even play the 4th in the memphis game either 😂😂😂 dude is unfknreal
He has so much aura
I hope SGA wins the mvp. But joker is having the best season as a big ever. 😢😢😢
🐶⚡️🐶⚡️🐶⚡️🐶⚡️🐶⚡️🐶⚡️🐶⚡️🐶
If SGA was on a any big market team i bet it would be unanimous mvp
Just cause he the best player on a stacked team does not mean he's like that🙏💀
