The conversation between Megatron and Ratchet is so well written! It's so wicked of how Megatron tries to appease to Ratchet's better nature in needing his help to restore Cybertron, though the Autobot knows the Decepticon so well after being the one responsible for the war in the first place, as well as responsible for any sadistic crimes.
I love how Megatron is smart enough to know that Ratchet won’t fall for any deceptions, so instead of wasting time trying to fool him into helping, he simply appeals to Ratchets wants that align with Megatron’s. Like Arcee put it: “brutal honesty from a Decepticon”
One thing of particular interest for me in this scene is Ratchet bringing up Megatron's brutality against Bumblebee, rather than mentioning the death of many other comrades. It goes to show how traumatized Ratchet was by that particular act, and his inability to reverse it. We all have some 'less' relevant memories that leave great impacts on our characters, and having understood that long ago, that line hit me differently than the rest of this brilliant scene.
I think that the death of millions of cybertronians is more devastating than Bee's voice box. At least Bee is alive and well now. What about those who didn't want to become one with the all spark so early?
@@alexale5488 I think he still cares for those who lost their lives but from what I understand of Bumble Bee or B137 he was the equivalent of a 17 year old teenager joining a war and seeing how close he was with Optimus he could've bounded with Ratchet which could've made it more tragic to see this young idealistic kid get brutalized for standing his ground and to protect his friends.
@@alexale5488this comment is two years old but i still enjoy discussion of ideas. Numbers dont really matter to humans on a base level (and therefore Autobots, who are a human creation). It's about the personal relationships between those numbers. 10'000 fire ants being killed is nothing to us, even though those creatures are all living individual lives, however conscious they are of it. What matters is the relationships we see. Ratchet remembers that moment more than the thousand other deaths because that's his comrade, and i think its a fate he'd want Bee to be able to avoid, but he cant make that happen, so Ratchet struggles over it. Even in the Bay movies (my first TF exposure), Ratchet is the one to comment on Bee's voice box. I always got the impression that, at the very least, Ratchet felt that he should've been able to do something about it as a medical officer and comrade. sorry for the super long comment, this response is a passion born of the alcohol ive drank tonight xd
He does a damn good job. I however couldn't help but notice that Ratchets voice actor was Jeffrey Combs, aka Weyoun and Brunt in DS9 as well as Shran in Enterprise. One of the best and most prolific Star Trek actors.
Absolutely. I loved the dialogue in this episode between Megatron and Ratchet. Full display of Megatron's intelligence and decision making. He is not simply a brute. That's the best part. This is one of those few instances where you see why Megatron is the rightful leader of the Decepticons.
I respect that I would hate him for it but I would at least know that even if he kills me and he brings life back to Cybertron other will stop him if not Optimus
It’s better to have someone that tells you right in your face that they hate you than to have someone pretend to be your friend only to stab you when your back is turned.
He knows full well that even if he tried to feed Ratchet some bologna, Ratchet wouldn’t buy it for a second, and all it would do is make him less likely to cooperate. Brutal honesty based on a mutual desire would be most effective in getting Ratchet to help out.
I love when Megatron is shown to be brutally cunning and not just some brutish thug. Shows he not only has the strength to rule an army, but the intelligence to show why the war has gone on for so long.
I just realized, the scenes where Megatron is showing Rachet all their stuff has a purpose. 1. Seeing the Cloaking System allows Rachet to shut it down in the next episode. 2. The Energon Conservation System brings up the line about Decepticon Engineering Megatron uses when Rachet sees the rebuilt Omega Lock. 3. The Quantum Inducer he sees in the lab is what Rachet uses as a distraction in the next Episode. This is well planned out storytelling and use of assets.
And The 4 Keepers Are Mentioned The Speed Planet The Beast Planet Gigantion And Earth Are The Keepers Of The Forest Key Giant Key Speed Key And Earth Key So I Would Like To See A Reference Of Vector Prime
Something I find fascinating about this show, and most Transformers content in general, is how personal the “war” feels. Everyone knows each other by name, and no one ever really uses titles unless it’s within their own ranks. Cliffjumper refers to Starscream, the second in command of the entire Decepticon army and his eventual killer, as Scream. Any autobot can have a civil conversation with the power hungry tyrant that heads the Decepticons if they stay alive long enough for him to calm down. Decepticons and Autobots can have rivalries with the opposing side. If anyone has respect for someone on the opposite side, it’s usually because of something that happened before or unrelated to the “war.”
At this point there aren't really a lot of simple foot soldiers left. Who remains of the Cybetronian race are the most resilient or simply the luckiest, of course they are known to each other.
Funny thing about that actually. You wouldn’t know it unless you looked into the history of before the war, but Shockwave was once a good friend of Bumblebee! They watched Megatron fight in the arena together. You wouldn’t think that due to how much older Shockwave seems compared to Bumblebee, but then you remember that they’re all thousands, possibly millions of years old
@@mayor_theo bumblebee wasn’t created for the war, he was apart of the last generation of transformers who were created before the all spark stopped creating new life, most of whom joined the autobots, smokescreen is also apart of that.
Megatron was always one of my favourite characters in TFP. The design as a villain, is so well done. He's intimidating, he's more than ready to join in a fight, intelligent and surprisingly actually has moral standards. Remember when Starscream fought Optimus and Starscream was about to finish him off but Megatron comes in at the last second. As Starscream said, Optimus is right there ready for the taking. The respect Megatron has for Optimus, and would rather fight him to the death himself than simply give the killing blow after someone else had done all the work. Means a lot
Pfft. That isn’t intelligence, that’s obsession. He may be a cunning and morally agreeable commander in other continuities, but in this one he’s….not. Sure, he’s intimidating, and knows how to manipulate people (see: Ratchet, Starscream, OP when he turned back to Orion Pax) but the combination of dark energon-induced blood craze and his obsession with OP leading him to literally follow him around when Megatron could do ANYTHING ELSE speaks volumes. Though you do make an excellent point when it comes to his design. 10/10, excellent villain dynamic.
The only way Optimus Prime dies is if Megatron kills him, according to Megatron. He'd never let anyone else do it, and tells all his forces that try that they're wasting their time. He's obsessive, like he is with Starscream, not intelligent. Besides Starscream, Megatron is the biggest reason the Decepticons haven't been victorious the entire show. One or both of them is constantly setting the others back. Megatron doesn't do countless things he should when he has the chance, all because of his own arrogance. He didn't kill Bumblebee, didn't kill Starscream, didn't kill Airachnid, killed Dreadwing instead of Starscream, killed off his own Predacon army, the list goes on. Buckethead is where he is because of pure power, and for some reason, he has the allegiance of people much smarter than he is (Soundwave and Shockwave).
@@subjectc7505 It’s all those subtleties and mannerisms with each character that make us fans keep coming back to Transformers: Prime, even after the show concluded a little over 10 years ago.
Megatron knew that the only way to coerce Ratchet into doing what he wanted was not by force, for Ratchet is probably second only to Bumblebee in terms of loyalty to Optimus, but by taking advantage of his greatest passion: science. This is why the Decepticons practically worship him.
More than science, Megatron KNEW that Ratchet would be the one that wanted their homeworld restored most, to the point of forsaking his brethren and humans. Megatron always took initiative in knowing his enemies, and as one of his oldest adversaries, he knew Ratchet all too well.
What gets me more is that megatron practically made ratchet comply by allowing ratchet to break through, making himself vulnerable. It was the only way he had to be vulnerable around ratchet being clear and forward with it all whilst still letting him know that even if ratchets does this, there won’t be a change just a new opportunity for the both of them
Not just science, but HELPING people, remember Ratchet is the Transformer equivalent of a doctor. And he's being asked to help restore life to an entire planet. Optimus himself probably wouldn't disagree that it's a good incentive; restoring life to Cybertron is one of the best possible outcomes even if it just means bringing the war home again.
Transformers Prime is literally a love Letter to the original series from the 80s. Not only that, it brought us a more cunning and ruthless version of Megatron voiced by Frank Welker himself, but also the best version of Optimus Prime that was absolutely Robust.
Just 2 adults talking to each other. No snark, no low-brow jokes and quips. Just 2 old enemies having a genuine conversation about the future of their species. I miss writing like this so much.
Megatron is a very smart politician, he conveys his attentions, however good or evil, says the truth no matter how bad it is, doesn't lie and still gets what he wants, (to an extent). Wish we had more politicians like him.
You can really see how Megatron managed to convince so many Cybertronians to follow in his cause, despite its insanity. His ability to get the Decepticons to believe whatever he said through his own twisted logic was conveyed beautifully. The writers did such a good job of showing why Megatron really was a scarily effective tyrant with such an unyielding following.
It's the fact that he's able to convince Ratchet while FULLY ADMITTING he can't be trusted. He makes no attempt to deny his monstrosity, doesn't even pretend to offer mercy, practically points a gun at Earth and, in admitting his promises would be hollow, even tacitly admits he'll kill Ratchet when this is all over, and STILL his argument holds so much weight that you can absolutely buy Ratchet being convinced, if not be a little convinced yourself.
Ratchet's VA is performing well above any paygrade I imagine he got. The inflections are immaculate. "Even if I were capable do YOU THINK...that I would HAND YOU?? a limitless supply of --?" absolute masterful character work. I can tell Ratchet takes pride in the words he chooses to use when he speaks to others with authority, so he hangs on the words he feels are most important for them to hear.
Throughout the entire exchange, Megatron didn’t lie to Ratchet once. He knows trying to promise goodness to an Autobot as a Decepticon would be pointless, so instead of trying to appeal to Ratchet with morality, he instead appeals to him through methods he knows Ratchet can’t resist: scientific advancement and the promise of Cybertron’s revival. The writing of this show is phenomenal.
I believe this is really my favorite version of Megatron. He’s fleshed out, and his ability to be deceiving yet honest at the same time perfectly represents how he was as a politician, but I’m sure he was more honest and persuasive than deceitful. A warrior who gained respect through out his gladiator days. It’s even more exciting to believe he was extremely ambitious- he wanted to connected both Earth and Cybertron due to the link- and of course rule them as equals. It’s methods are surely wrong in order to complete such a task, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Equals meaning becoming connected, and ruled by his faction. I honestly don’t understand why people thought this Megatron was stupid during the time episodes were coming out. Sure there has been times where shit gets over his head, but the cons have had more wins than the bots for almost three seasons straight. Guy is clever, and they had to somehow beat him in anyway possible.
Ratchet: Megatron you would just try conquer Cybertron all over again and enslave anyone who refuses to pledge allegiance to you! Megatron: Of course I would!
This is why I have a Hate/Love relationship with Megatron you hate him for what he is and what he's done but you have to love him for being upfront with truthful with his thoughts and intentions
He focused on ratchets passion for science and engineering, barely needed to coerce him, he gave ratchet everything he needed, all he has to do was say yes.
3:15 love the honesty from Megatron. He knows exactly what he can believably offer. Gives just enough rope to let Ratchet think it's worth playing the game.
1:06 the symbolism of Rachet always staying on the light, embracing it, while it can be the same said with Megatron embracing the darkness, and both of the characters justifying their actions/causes to fight or die for.
Getting Frank Welker to reprise his voice as Megatron was one of the best decisions and such a genius move on the show runners parts. Even Jeffery Combs as Rachet is a phenomenal casting choice, his voice fits the character so well. The dialogue between Megatron and Rachet is so good here. These are two characters who have a personal history with Optimus but could not be more different from each other and only one of them stayed by Optimus’ side. You can feel the hatred in Rachet’s voice but Megatron is calm and collected, he is trying to rial Rachet up to get inside his head and it works. This is how you write Megatron Micheal Bay
Transformers Prime was a kids show in its time. But the writers, animators and whole team come to a realization; these kids will be an adult with time and decided to give us this. One of the most interesting things I've noticed in this show is the stark difference between the first 10 episodes. And 3rd season.
That’s what I like and why I prefer Prime and Armada over G1. But to be fair, G1 had some corny yet enjoyable chemistry-related labels and insults. Spike: Let go of me you beryllium buzzard! Megatron: Resist! Terminate them! Reduce them to Lithium Litter!!!
@@TPDManiacXC626Also G1 was created during the 80s where most cartoons were made to sell toys to children rather than telling a story. (It's still fun to watch though).
The most terrifying thing about Megatron is his brutal honesty and straightforward-ness. He doesn't beat around bush unlike other villains in other shows. I also remember in beast hunters this interaction: Predacon: Megatron, you were responsible for the extinction of my brethren Megatron: indeed and my only mistake was not seeing the extermination through. Megatron said it straightforward unlike others who'd try to convince him
The last line of dialogue goes so hard. The entire dialogue was absolutly impeccably written. Every line counted. And not to mention the VAs that conveyed so much emotion. This series was brilliant, the best I'd confidently say, and I dont believe they will make ever again a series that good. This is peak fiction right here.
This is definitely (collectively) the most interesting talk between the factions in the show. Arguably the most honest Megatron has ever been (he knows he can't fool Ratchet anyway, and doesn't even try), and Ratchet commits to wanting Cybertron revived, even if he has to get his hands dirty to do it. The only way to save Cybertron would be for the factions to unite their forces, in some manner. Very cool.
The writing here is superb. Megatron doesn’t insult Ratchet’s intelligent by being anything but brutally, devastatingly honest. And despite Ratchet knowing that Megatron will purposely misuse his technology and probably destroy him afterwards, can’t help but comply. To save his planet. Now THAT is a good villain. And I love how both sides can’t help but begrudgingly respect the other.
The mixture of Megatron's honesty and deception with his adversaries depending on their intelligence is truly incredible. He is so amazingly evil, but at the same time he is honest and, to a degree, respectful to his adversaries
This show has shown me how good Megatron is. You can't get good villains who are leaders without them having both prowess, martial skill, and prowess. The honesty, and the sense that he accepts who he is and plays to both his rep and his opponents really shows how he works.
I just love that Megatron was actually HONEST with Ratchet, he might not survive but thanks to him Cybertron could be back alive, the acting here was just superb, both Frank Welker and Jeffrey Combs both killed in these conversation, fantastic work by the actors and animators, man I love Prime so much.
I like how megatron doesn't use insulting nicknames for autobots like a lot of villains do. He uses their names or gives them non-insulting nicknames, even if here he was just trynna oil ratchet up
This was such an underrated Megatron at the time. Rewatching this now shows me that TFP Megs was truly one of the best Megatron representations. Frank Welker at his finest
Prime’s incarnation of Starscream is despicable, to an extent, but in my perspective, in terms of both comedy at his expense and a few rare moments of brilliance and helpfulness on his part, he’s essentially the Transformers equivalent of Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown.
If I remember right, the books elaborate that most Decepticons where heavy laborers like Bulkhead and Wheeljack, Minicons who where often overlooked and fell into hands like Soundwave's, or Military Seekers like Starscream. Lowly workers where shorted the hardest in the caste system, hence how Megatron started in the Gladiator arena to be heard to larger masses of the upper class. When Optimus became a Prime is when they divided who they followed and most chose Megatron because he started the cause, where Orion/Optimus seemed to be an interloper. The Seekers joined them after most of them (Starscream included) where displeased with the political figures they were supposed to protect. It's not a surprise that Decepticons outnumbered Autobots 3-1 and had the upper hand in engineering, it's what many of them did their whole lives, and the miliary seekers where the strategic backbone of most operations, they had the means to take what they wanted where the Autobots did not. Most Autobots were middle class or incredibly young, like Bumblebee (He was born shortly before the war began). The Autobots prioritized the security of Iocon and the Well of Allsparks, as it was one of the only ways they could keep their numbers comparable to Decepticons until the well was poisoned and they were forced to leave the planet to find resources.
The relationship between these two are so deep it constantly amazes me how this show really conveyed all the characters. I feel that instead of OP and Meg being the typical opposites, it’s actually Ratchet and Meg opposing one another. This is because Ratchet holds him solely accountable for destroying their home and for hurting Bumblebee (let’s be honest, he is a total dad to him). Probably the only 2 things he hates Meg for: being a person that kills while Ratchet tried his best to save others’ lives. I feel those sentiments are always shown in every continuity he has been in, within some form or another. I love this show.
1:05 seeing ratchet in the light stepping away from it and towards megatron is the dark is great symbolism, that despite claiming to wish to use the synthetic energon for good, Megatron is as war hungry as ever and not to be trusted
@@illuminaary Other than that blowtorch he used to interrogate a Decepticon Miner, you’d think that Ratchet would have other weapons that he has tucked away in his arms just in case?
I may be slightly nostalgic for TFP because I grew up with it, but honest to God this is one of, if not THE, best versions of Megatron. He's physically imposing and unbeatable for anyone other than Prime, yet he's also on another intellectual level when it comes to deception/persuasion. You can almost be fooled into thinking he's a good guy with how logical his arguments are, yet you can just tell he's being completely dishonest the entire time. Its that slightly unhinged nature of, 'I know you know I'm bullshitting you, but will that do anything to stop you?' that gets me, the way Megatron's eyes go wide and he has that manic look to his face, of someone who is juuuuust about to tip over the edge into total insanity yet remains in control. Absolute favourite version of Megs by a long shot.
This series reminds me alot of Avatar The Last Airbender. Another animated series supported by brilliant writing chocked filled with complex themes, dark subjects, and nuances the suits well for audiences of all ages.
Bear in mind, Megatron is the reason why Cybertron was devastated with him and the other decepticons poluting cybertrons core with Dark Energon in War for cybertron, so if Megatron were to restore cybertron, it would be deffinitley what Cybertron was owed.
3:22 this is what I love about Prime Megatron. If he’s not lying to your face, he’s beating you down with brutal honesty Ratchet: You’d just conquer Cybertron the seconds it’s resurrected and enslave your enemies. Megatron: Damn right I would, but at least we’d have our own planet to fight over again.
Prime did an amazing job with the writing & voice acting of this Megatron, truly managed to give him the vibe of a majestic conqueror that can be just as cunning as he is brutal.
There will never be a show like this. So fun to watch, and yet so serious with all its storylines. Sometimes even cruel. It was a literate masterpiece, and I really doubt there will be another Transformers show like this.

So true he always thought he could have done better repairing bee's voice box .
@@armyforlife7162 And in the end, he actually did it.
I always loved Frank Welker's voice for Megatron in this show. It's amazing.
It’s like his G1 voice, but smoother.
@satinguard
It is truly the definitive Megatron voice!
He does a damn good job. I however couldn't help but notice that Ratchets voice actor was Jeffrey Combs, aka Weyoun and Brunt in DS9 as well as Shran in Enterprise. One of the best and most prolific Star Trek actors.
The ultimate Megatron voice!
The dialogues here are gold
I know. I know...
Absolutely. I loved the dialogue in this episode between Megatron and Ratchet. Full display of Megatron's intelligence and decision making. He is not simply a brute. That's the best part. This is one of those few instances where you see why Megatron is the rightful leader of the Decepticons.
It always is
I wish Welker did work in none VA roles. Or better yet be recognized by Hollywood for being a bad ass VA.
Yes
It's the _honesty_ for me. Megatron's not even _denying_ it.
*_[_**_3:15_**_]_*
I respect that I would hate him for it but I would at least know that even if he kills me and he brings life back to Cybertron other will stop him if not Optimus
That's one thing I respect about Megatron. He never made a secret out of his intentions. Who sides with him knows exactly what they're getting into.
Ratchet: "You'd still be a sadistic warlord!"
Megatron: "No shit, captain obvious."
This video just goes to show how cunning Megatron can be and I love it. The writing and dialogue in this show is superb.
Thanks, I like yooou~
I love when Megatron is shown to be brutally cunning and not just some brutish thug. Shows he not only has the strength to rule an army, but the intelligence to show why the war has gone on for so long.
It's a perfect blend megatron is a gladiator but he's also intelligent and cunning It adds so much to him he is truly written well
I just realized, the scenes where Megatron is showing Rachet all their stuff has a purpose.

You wouldn’t think that due to how much older Shockwave seems compared to Bumblebee, but then you remember that they’re all thousands, possibly millions of years old
I thought Bumblebee was created for the war @@a.u.g.m.a.s
@@mayor_theo bumblebee wasn’t created for the war, he was apart of the last generation of transformers who were created before the all spark stopped creating new life, most of whom joined the autobots, smokescreen is also apart of that.
That's how Civil Wars are. Usually people know each other personally or by close reputation.
@@mallow80 so like any honor bounded warrior
@@mallow80 Indeed, Megatron's biggest problem is that he's gone mad with his addiction to the blood of Satan, and his obsession with Optimus.
thats not respect lol, that is greed and arrogance. Megatron wants to be the one to kill optimus, to fully satisfy his desire for revenge.
I love megatron's facial expressions and his body movements lol
The best Decepticon
@@subjectc7505
It’s all those subtleties and mannerisms with each character that make us fans keep coming back to Transformers: Prime, even after the show concluded a little over 10 years ago.
It was the only way he had to be vulnerable around ratchet being clear and forward with it all whilst still letting him know that even if ratchets does this, there won’t be a change just a new opportunity for the both of them
Megatron is also scientific to as even has used his brain to create weapons of war
Megatron is more intelligent than they think
Consider me an option XD
Think about that a moment.... all the way through.
Senator armstrong
U want a tyrant as a politician?
im not sure about that last part. a decent chunk of our politicians are bad and all, but not THAT bad.
He also had the force to impose his will at any moment.
@@Careerender
And he had the strength, cunning, and combat experience to back all that up.
There was once, of course, the original cause of the Deceptions that was moral and just. But hey, war changes people.
If only Megatron wasn't evil Ratchet would have been glad to study their tech he seems so interested in Deception Engineering and Technology
Absolutely
sadly without the evil the tech might not exist, they were in an arms race after all
The story wouldn't be exciting either if the storyline is different 😂
Ratchet's VA is performing well above any paygrade I imagine he got. The inflections are immaculate.
"Even if I were capable do YOU THINK...that I would HAND YOU?? a limitless supply of --?" absolute masterful character work. I can tell Ratchet takes pride in the words he chooses to use when he speaks to others with authority, so he hangs on the words he feels are most important for them to hear.
Jeffery Combs is great. Watch Star Trek DS9 if you like him he plays one one of the main antagonists for the last 4 seasons
Because he is voiced by the great Jeffrey Combs.
@@soljafonI really want him to voice Rachet in the live action movies and animated ones.
When Megatron says "when we do not try" for some reason, I just love the way he moves as he says it
Okay. It's kinda nice

1:06 the symbolism of Rachet always staying on the light, embracing it, while it can be the same said with Megatron embracing the darkness, and both of the characters justifying their actions/causes to fight or die for.
Gotta love this show never gets old
I know, right?
I love how transformers prime doesnt stray from using vocabulary, and doesnt treat us like kids
I legitimately learned several words from this show as a kid.
Antiquated, collaborate, oblique, cataclysm, and minutia were some examples of that.
@@TPDManiacXC626Also G1 was created during the 80s where most cartoons were made to sell toys to children rather than telling a story. (It's still fun to watch though).
Ratchet: "Are these humans; supposed to mean something to me"?

Predacon: Megatron, you were responsible for the extinction of my brethren
Megatron: indeed and my only mistake was not seeing the extermination through.

You gotta respect Megatron's directness and honesty.
The mixture of Megatron's honesty and deception with his adversaries depending on their intelligence is truly incredible. He is so amazingly evil, but at the same time he is honest and, to a degree, respectful to his adversaries
This is over 10 years old and it still makes me geek out like a child. Goes to show that a good story it timeless.
He uses their names or gives them non-insulting nicknames, even if here he was just trynna oil ratchet up
Megatron is such a gracious host, showing his guest/energy around the best. Making them feel at home and showing respect
1:05 I just notice the symbolism: Ratched standing in the light while Megatron stands in the dark, both discussing the potential future
My God this show was so good. I don't know if there ever going to top it.
Doubtful. IMO, this series is the franchise in its Prime.
This was such an underrated Megatron at the time. Rewatching this now shows me that TFP Megs was truly one of the best Megatron representations. Frank Welker at his finest
The best villains are the ones you understand, the ones you respect. Megatron is an amazing villain who is hard to hate.
6:26: Megatron: I did.
Transformers Prime is definetly Frank Welker's Best Megatron performance in all his years voicing the character.
I love how Megatron doesn’t even try to pretend like he wouldn’t try to conquer Earth or kill Ratchet.
