If he's buying stock to resell, an astute businessman would surely continue to buy everything that caught his eye at Old Mill Antiques. There were some superb pieces of furniture available to him; so why didn't he avail himself of the wonderful opportunity to buy other items on hand? I believe that he has a cashflow problem and needs to sell stock in order to replenish stock. He may not be as affluent as he makes out. Brian seemed a nice chap.
Its worth six if he can verify it's provenance, he is going on his gut feeling but without the piece of paper confirming what it is it could be worth two. The seller knows the risk and will be making a good profit at 3700.
