I found a way to recycle my old school books into mushrooms by ripping up the pages, adding lots of water, blending untill thee are no lumps of paper, straining in a siv and then adding a bit of plain wheat flour. It makes a slightly crumbly dough (the gluten in the flour makes it less crumbly) and then forming caps and stalks (which I hit glue together) and also puffshrooms and shelf fungus, then I give everything a 1 or 2 coats of gesso after they’ve dried and hardened over the coarse of a week or two, then I paint them whatever colour I want, paint some dots, stars, lines, use gesso and paint some messy dots to create a textured pattern, I then add put cotton balls soaked with essential oils in the puffshroom’s holes for scent and add double sided tape to the back of the shelf fungus so they can stick to walls.
This may just be me, but I couldn't bare recycling books and things that hold memories, I always hoard all of my old sketchbooks, books, letters, and anything like that. I'm glad u can recycle yours tho!

My godmother bought me one of those grow your own mushroom kits, it’s the shelf mushroom ones :D currently starting it off in the back kitchen and apparently once you cut them off and eat them, if you take the bag out of the box they can actually grow a second time which would be awesome

Reach for the underground base of the mushroom with thumb and index finger and try to figure out where the mushroom’s stem ends. Once you find it, close your fingers underneath it and slowly pull it up. This way, you won’t only get the whole mushroom, but you’ll also make sure that you’re not hurting it by leaving half of its body in the ground(if you do, its roots will die along with the dead body’s half and in that spot won’t grow new mushrooms for a very long time!) Let’s not hurt our mushroom friends🥺
your comment is misinformation, the correct way to harvest mushrooms so they grow back is to carefully cut it at the stem. if you rip it off like you said it will damage the mycelium.

don't touch a mushroom unless you can properly identify it and even then bring a mushrooming guide because there are many look-a-likes so be careful its best to not touch a mushroom unless you need to do your research on the poison ones so you can avoid them
here are some poisonous ones also the rules of mushrooming change depending on who you ask but here are some basic mushrooming rules that most use (unless you want an allergic reaction with no cure or if you want to be poisoned -I don't recommend you doing that-) -don't mix mushrooms unless you have eaten those species once or twice -keep one mushroom out of the food so you can take it to the doctor -don't eat a mushroom raw if you foraged and I'll add the rest in a sec

Just a reminder to all of you who might be knew to mushroom foraging: Fly agarics are poisonous!! They might look like fairytale toadstools but never eat them and wash your hands thoroughly after touching them. :D
