Lets not forget that the oilers found something incredible in their penalty kill with janmark and brown. Those two were single handidly destroying teams powerplays to the point that they scored more shorthanded goals than some teams powerplays in the playoffs. And then those two with henrique was starting to become a two way defensive forwards unit that was stunning teams.
As long as Edmonton avoids a 3-11-1 stretch that they always seem to have every season they should be a lock to finish above 108.5 standings points. I'll take the over. Jesse picking the Canucks to win the division again though... I dunno about that. Demko status uncertain, Silovs unproven as a full-time starter if needed, regression for many of their players who shot career-high shooting percentages... Canucks are good, hell even great! But I have a hard time picking them over Edmonton in the Pacific.
There's a chance oilers players regress a bit too. Hyman had 50 goals which he was never close to prior....
@@jax1580 Hyman absolutely regresses back to 30-35 goals I think. Adding Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson helps offset his regression though I think! And I’d like to think McDavid scores about 40 this season after a “down” year last season. Debrusk is a wildcard for Vancouver though, if he gets hot early I could see him finally breaking out over 30 goals!
@@AHockey1993 agreed. I think Sprong could also have a good offensive year with Van's forwards to work with. We shall see! Exciting season ahead!
@AHockey1993 wait youre questioning the canucks goaltending? Yall are a real 1A or a real starter away from a cup.
Skinner belongs in Bakersfield
@@Tykian00420 the same Stuart Skinner that was 10-1 in games 4-7 in the playoffs last season with an over 930 sv% and 1.80 GAA? He has his off games for sure, but he was instrumental in Edmonton defeating Dallas in 6 and defeating the Canucks in 7. And he played more than good enough to win game 7 against Florida. Team came up short, but Skinner is far from AHL calibre lol he’s a starting NHL goalie. Is he elite? Maybe not. But AHL? You’re just trolling
Vancouver didn't upgrade their team lol they are so high on the Canucks
Oilers fan here. Calling Stuart Skinner elite is a bit of a stretch lol
Yeah he was pretty garbage for the Canucks series. Boeser had his number almost the entire time and if he played in game 7, entirely possible it could’ve been the Canucks going to the finals.
Skinner is an average goalie who got carried to the cup final by this team. He can’t do sh*t if he’s on a weaker team. Super overrated and over hyped guy. He’s NOT that good.
@@CT-qu6bh I like to think of it as, if Skinner was on any other team he’d either be traded or waived.
@@CT-qu6bh In my opinion, that's a fair assessment. Average goalie up to this point.
@@DoppaDI just don’t like how the local media keeps pumping his tires. There are also some very loyal Skinner fans out there who keep supporting and loving him no matter what. If he struggles, it’s ‘never his fault,’ and they blame the defensemen instead. The excuses are always that ‘he’s young and from Edmonton.’ Eventually, those excuses will run out, but by then, it’ll be too late because he’ll have cost McDavid and Draisaitl their chances of getting a cup. The idea that he might be the starting goalie for Canada in the Four Nations tournament is a f*cking joke.
Brett Kulak is HIM
I think they will have a great season.
If they all gel and synchronize early in the season they could have a very great season.
I think we need another Connor, perhaps another Skinner if ones to be found.
I think we will see a pretty large regression from the canucks this year, they were a massive surprise last year and you could argue that they over performed. I’m not saying they are gonna take a step back like say the Nee Jersey Devils did this past season, but they’re too guys probably aren’t gonna have the best season of their career again right after pretty much destroying they’re own personal best and the goal tending is shakey. If Demko is still not 100% during the season I don’t know that he will be able to play like a vezina calibre player either.
Edmonton has a strong puck possession offence that might have even gotten stronger and unlike the Leafs, who also play a strong forward driven puck possession game, their star forwards dominate in the playoffs. The Oilers still have a lot of weakness on the blueline and their goaltending is inconsistent. You never know what you're getting in net with Skinner from game to game. They probably should have tried upgrade their backup goaltending. It'll be interesting to see how this team comes out of the gate after their game 7 hangover, but the way last season started will probably be in their minds. Getting their young players yoinked off the roster by St Louis and hiring a pariah GM were a pretty bad way to celebrate their great run in the playoffs.
Mostly the same team with maybe now the best top 6. Should likely win the division if they can avoid a horrendous start lol
Honestly from an oil fan you guys broke it down pretty well. Sounds like a really fair assessment.
Honestly… leaf homers, talking trash… with some good comments … but complete leafs homers… wtf?
Steve i wish you would just switch or in addition, put out regular oilers content. Its soemtimes hard watching you suffering through the leafs and thier playoff woes. Love your content.
McDavid finishes with 137 pts. Oilers with 113. 😉💙🧡
Oilers fan here, MCDAVID top of of the league, if he does not get injured, nucks are salty, LA salty, Dallas Salty, but yes Mcdavid 100/130 points at the top of the league

@@knganth3mcrazy how you’re saying the 3 teams Edmonton beat are salty when no one’s even saying that. There’s nothing wrong with having optimism jeez
Oilers will finish dead last in the Pacific
@@emperoralvis6559, jealous haters comments never do age well.
Defence? Aging out? Cap room flexibility? Skinner in net mid, bad or good?
Did you watch the video even 😂
@@austin888peters yup.
@@gordtulk they literally addressed everything except the aging group. And the core is still in their late 20s, it's not like they're in their mid 30s. Compression might not be great
@@austin888peters yes they did. And I’m pointing to what I think are the issues. And they didn’t make much of what a serious issue defense is.
@@gordtulk you formatted it as if you were asking questions which were for the most part addressed already 😁
They glossed over Skinner playing so bad in the Canucks series he wasn’t even playing two games
canucks pto go brrrrr
Cough cough, Nucks lost 😂
@@shanegleeson5823 that’s why they have pickard. It’s a good enough tandem and Vancouver lost time for the fan base to get over it.
@TheMustangdood Skinner Pickard isnt a viable nhl tandem and youre the one who needs to get over it. You'd have a cup if you had a serviceable NHL goalie
@@Tykian00420 then how did they go to the cup finals game 7?
Counting on one goalie who will be over worked could cause huge problems. Adding more offence at the expense of defence was a mistake.
SKOAR MOAR GOOOALS
Over and over. Davo breaks 160 if not hurt and around 120 for the oil, ofc with div title if not conference
Doubt it tbh. Stars are just too deep to not bet on them to win the Western Conference in the regular season.
@@emperoralvis6559 we'll see about that then
I don't see anything really different on your team.. not really much changed.
Let's Gooooooooooooooooooo
YIPPIE
Elite goaltender?😂 Jessie is always so high with these takes
Good enough to get to a cup final, I’d say that’s pretty elite. Plus they are right. This year may be a step up for Skinner but time will tell.
@TheMustangdood or this will be the year that skinner gets exposed and people actually take notice. Skinner isn't even a 1b he's a nhl backup at best. He's no better than Samsonov. Couldn't take an elite team to the cup.
The Vancouver series? Yall would have lost if Boeser played game 7.
That said your D is much better and your forward group is elite. You're a goalie away from the cup and running out of time
@@Tykian00420 but he did take an elite team to a cup so there’s that. Vancouver lost time to get over it.
Dude you don't have to overcompensate. Skinner may not be elite but calling him a backup just kinda shows how biased you are lmao @@Tykian00420
Skinner and Pickard were good enough for the Oilers. But you are right, I wouldn’t classify them as elite by any means. Any other team with a goalie duo like that would miss the playoffs 9 times out of 10.
That comment won’t age well.
Bad defense -> bad goaltending
Jesse calling Stuart Skinner elite is hilarious. Consistently terrible takes
He is good for what they pay him but Elite ? Nah
Made it to game 7 in the Stanley cup final and only allowed 2 goals….that’s pretty good than the majority of the other goalies in the league 😂😂
@@dylanmcconnell6330 only an Edmonton fan would think a goalie with a career .894 sv% is elite lol. McDrai carried that team. Skinner had to have Pickard come clean up after him in the Vancouver series
@@dylanmcconnell6330yeah but the first goal he allowed in game 7 of the finals was an absolute softie.
@@dylanmcconnell6330 Darcy Kuemper won a Cup, nobody is calling him elite. Skinner fixed his inconsistency problem in time for the Final, and while he was solid he was not "elite", elite looks like the guy on the other side of the ice in that series.
Delusional
108.5 is the o/u?
Well, some of the best analytic stat lines have the o/u as 117.0. Im taking the over on 108.5, lol. Edm has the best offense. They severely upgraded on D and now ranks 4th. Over the last 2 seasons, Skinner ranks 9th in GSAx. Elite is a great word cause S. Skinner was absolutely that.
Edm was 28th in QA (quality against) last year. They were 1st in quantity and quality for. 2nd in quantity against. Edm projects to improve their QA to 15th which substantially improves the workload Skinner will face. Expect a career year from S. Skinner.
I have a feeling Skinner and Hyman regression will be real this season. This may hurt them and cost them the division. They will still be a playoff team.
I feel like they'll both regress due to lessened roles. They're both top 6 goals scoring forwards, ofc they'll regress. The team is better overall tho.
I can't see Hyman getting near 50 again. I think last year was a one off because he's never even been a consistent 40 goal scorer.
You have skinner regressing in his first season on a contender with Connor and Leon? Bold take. Shitty take, but bold
They're an old team but still a metric ton of talent to go around.
Drai and mcdavid both had down years, should make up for regression to hyman. No way skinner doesn’t pop 35-40
I wish the Oilers would've went after Sprong instead of Arvidsson, and kept Holloway.
Sprong is one dimensional and many reasons why he can stay on a roster.
Not good enough for top 6
Not reliable enough for bottom 6
Holloway yes, bad loss
Agreed with Holloway his speed, skill and grinding during the playoffs
@@JBrix86 no you don't, sprong is horrible vibes
@@Tykian00420 $
Oilers don’t need a player like Sprong. The Canucks did however.
Mostly interested to see if whatever nagging injuries McDavid had all of last season are healed or not. Considering he was playing hockey until the end of June I'm leaning towards "no." If McDavid is able to shoot the puck again this year it probably won't matter if Hyman's goals inevitably drop a bit.
The forward group is so stacked that nobody even talks about how the Ekholm/Bouchard top pairing is one of the best in the NHL.
And after the first pairing it’s a total junkyard.
Sorry, but there is no way in hell that Stuart Skinner is now "elite." Yes, he solved his inconsistency problems long enough to be serviceable if not downright good during the Cup Final, but he didn't show anything above from a handful of specific saves that should make anyone apply the label "elite." Above average? Sure. Solid? Maybe... if he keeps his head on straight. Consistency is still a question mark. He _could_ be elite in a few years' time, given he's still rather young, especially for a goalie, but he isn't "elite" yet. Elite is what we saw on the opposite end of the ice in that Cup Final, despite getting pulled in that anomaly Game 4 (the only playoff game Bobrovsky didn't finish; by contrast Skinner was pulled and then benched for two subsequent games).
As an oilers fan I take the under. It’s obvious that the Oilers are taking a Tampa approach to the regular season, I expect they’ll be a 104-108 point team still but I don’t think they’re looking to push super hard to win a presidents trophy. I do expect they’re gonna win the division, just they won’t try and do more than necessary to do so. (Plus a 4-5 game skid at some point is guaranteed it’s the oilers)

@gorgeousgeorge5173 you wish. It will either be the habs or the leafs, whoever is doing better. Oil just get draft luck ;)
@@Tykian00420 It's not about who's doing better. They'll always be arguments for Leafs or Habs, and for good reason, but other teams are second tier at best
The Oilers will outscore any of their problems. I would say they are more of a regular season team than the Canucks, just looking at how they are built.
Oilers were 9th in goals against last year and that’s even after that horrific start. People seem to think the oilers are horrible defensively but they’re in the top third of the league to go along with their good offensive side
@@seabass7788 Spending a lot of time in the o-zone is a great way to keep goals against down. ;)
Nah they play with size and speed Canucks stars can't play heavier hockey similarly to the Leafs
They’ve been doing that for years.
A lot of people forget edmonton was 10th in goals against. Their defense will be fine, even with the losses.
im not even gonna watch but let me predict.. " they will barely make the playoffs . Oilers are so bad. who would ever wanna play there . Mcdavid is gonna be a Leaf REEEEEEEEEEEE" . you people have NEVER said anything good about my team please never speak about us .
