    If you don't want to suck through the supercharger you could probably use Reed valves from a 2 stroke as a bypass valve.

    Doing similar, except my turbo blows into a roots blower, and then opens the charger bypass at 1bar allowing the turbo to take over more in the top end.

    Thank you, opened my eyes to a few possibilities. I'm planning a twin-charged setup now on a Mitsubishi 4G63 stroker 2.3L, I'm thinking eaton M62 and a GT35. The M62 also has a clutch to turn on/off, I'd like to know more about what kind of restriction it is (to max turbo flow) when turned off (you claim 20hp "loss" in your setup, if anywhere close to that then totally reasonable).. and it also would be adding a small amount of heat to the intake air as its sucked past the already hot supercharger blades.. good water/air intercooler core before the throttle body should be adequate.

  • @WhatIsMyNameDamnIt
    @WhatIsMyNameDamnIt  11 років тому

    that is correct. throttle boody is after supercharger and turbo. Just before intake manifold.

    with the right turbo you could have almost the same power band for a lot less expense like twin scroll turbo from older evo 5-9 with a smaller exhaust side like 9T (evo 10 turbo is 10.6T) that would make boost from 3-3500rpm.

    Somewhere on here is a good vid VW's twin charging system and how they turned 1.3L into a fun to drive engine with better m.p.g than a single, larger component. It was a GDI series where the SC kicks in first, than cuts off when the turbo reaches higher rpm's. but I think it was for sale in Europe in that format. Haven't seen or heard of one in the states yet. Whatismynamedammit, is twin charging or because it's a 4AGE in that car the reason the engine is transverse?

    Great video! You make some good and valid points. I'm looking at doing the same to my 2L SR20VE motor in the near future. I was wondering, if your throttle body downstream or upstream of the supercharger? From what I can see, it looks like it's on the plenum after the turbo?

    Great Video, with valuable insight with turbo and supercharger. I would still would go normal aspirated engine..blue cylinder head, deck the block, rebore the block, High compression piston,lightned flywheel to aluminum, bigger values on the cylinder head, deck the cylinder head, limit slip the gearbox, add better injections, lightned core rods, or Change Ecu to Gotec Ecu or remap orginal Ecu..

When you go N/A and throw tons of money you still wont get that feeling. N/A is more about this "I'm in control" feel and engine screaming. hard to resist as well.

    great build. but has much more potential. i tried this some years ago but the turbo shaft broke because the exhaust gas speed did not match supercharge exit speed. so becareful of that when increasing boost. i am doing a k20 twinboost now. using a diverter valve.

    is it possible to do this setup running the charger at full time and then turbo high end

    • @WhatIsMyNameDamnIt
      @WhatIsMyNameDamnIt  4 роки тому

      it is possible but there are at least few reasons not to do this:
      1. good turbo, when spolled up, will outperform supercharger and provide enough boost that you will have to limit it anyway not to blow your engine
      2. supercharger is a parasite. it takes power from your engine. the higher you rev it the more power it leeches from your engine. It is best to remove sc from the equation at some point to remove its parasitic effect
      3. supercharger heats up the air enormously. and again the more rpms the more heat it generates into the equation - you don't really want that
      supercharger is great but for low end. when things rev faster turbo should play its song undisturbed and not to be held back by sc. Of course I guess not disengaging the sc would simplify the amount of work to be done but well it has some drawbacks. gl with your tune

      Intake air temperatures. You have an intake air temperature sensor on there correct? Most ecus have a compensation map for intake air temp.

    • @WhatIsMyNameDamnIt
      @WhatIsMyNameDamnIt  10 років тому

      Evan Ashlie When I had no bypass valve I had set the alarm to 60deg c and could reach it sometimes. Then I changed exhaust to bigger diameter (from 2,25 to 3'') and it loweredintake temps about 10degs. After installin bypass valve problem is non existent - temps are really low since in high revs only turbo pumps (supercharger is the main air heater)

    • @fast240sx
      @fast240sx 10 років тому

      Thats what i figured. Excellent. I will be doing a slightly different setup that MAY be more efficient than air to air. I plan to do a 500 hp water to air core in the trunk of the Mr2. I will then have a pump running all the liquid thru a heat exchanger. Not quite sure where to put that..but im sure i will figure it out. Im thinking on the decklid. Will let you know how it goes. Thank you for the information.

      Evan Ashlie
      I'd love to see what you come up with for a setup like that. I've been wanting to try something similar using a water/air exchanger pumping to a water block clamped to the cold side of a few decent sized peltier coolers, the focus being to retain the heat reduction of a larger system in a much smaller layout.
