I had a friend whose grandfather was an Arditi ,my father who in WW 2, was a Marine who had been on the "Long Patrol" in Guadalcanal said that Ernie's grandfather was on of the toughest, scariest men he'd ever known.
My grandfather was an Alpino. Elite mountaineer troops. Mountain Artillery regiment. He fought and died in Russia. A couple of years ago Russians have found his dogtags into a mass graveyard. I'm still waiting his body to come back home to give him dignity sepolture.

My grandfather was in the Arditi in World War one. We have his medals. He served at Palmanova and Montefalcone. He was apparently also at Verdun according to family lore. Does anyone know where I can conduct further research ? I would like to find his war file if I can and see how he came to be in the Arditi. He was living in the US in 1915 and joined the Italian army as a 19 year old. I'm not sure where his military district was. I only have his name. I am Australian.

Think of the wound a knife makes. Blade at least an inch wide, more than 6" long. A heavy rifle having to move a rifle is bulky. Up close, the barrel can be deflected., A soldier is inside of the gun barrel, the gun isn't much use except, striking and blocking. A big weapon, where Arditi have much easier maneuverable knives, stabbing and slicing. Then being well skilled with maneuvering, blocking, parrying, that's more than someone drafted in, taught to shoot and a few basics.
Just for historical contribution: there were something similar troops before Arditi, the Compagnie Della Morte ( Death's Companys ). From that the High Rank decided to organize them better for most effective results.

The Arditi were Sardinians of "151° reggiment of Sassari" and my great gandfather was one of them, but during an assault in the Isonzo River he died PS: the Sardinian knife is called Lesorja or Lesorza, Leppa and is normaly use for kill animals in the country side or for cut and eat meat, chees etc...etc...

Nice video, though I do not believe te use of the Resolza Sardinian knife. This has normally no fixed blade and no lock to fix the clasp knife blade. Also the design is a better cutter than stabbing knife. I saw very few examples of fixed blade Sardinean knifes, but I still would not say that they are optimized combat knifes to penetrate thick cloths.

Narrating isn't easy.. especially when you have to say and pronounce every word perfectly. One mistake and you have to do it all over again. I'm definitely not bored narrating..I'm making sure everything sounds correct. I kind of sound monotone normally.. Oh well...I'll keep trying.
History Uncovered- Believe me, it's very clear that you're reading your script, that's why it sounds unnatural and a bit too grim (even despite the subject matter), making it tough to digest quite interesting information. You're very easy to understand so less focus on pronunciation, and try to visualise that you're telling this to a person sitting in front of you, that will really let out the passion, get the viewer engaged. I'm not saying that narration is easy nor am I just railing on you, I don't want you feeling defensive, I think that your channel could be a real hit, making your latest video the standard in views and not a fluke, and these few tweaks might be what you need to really break out.

I think thy used a different knife. The Sardinian knife you mentioned & pictured is not a dagger and has no locking mechanism witch would make it almost completely useless in battle. I know this because I have one hand made in Sardinia and it more akin to a peasants knife or shepherds knife.

there is a very strong discussion about who comes up first the "Arditi" or the "Stormtroopers" i don't know much on the second but the concept of "Arditi" comes up during the italo-turkish war in 1911 but is ignored and comes up again in the 1916.

You need to know something, The Arditi unity was volunteer at first only, on the last months was a mix between volunteer and ppl selected from other batallons. And I know cos my great grand father was one of them.
My family comes from Italy (american born) and my last name is Ardito. I wonder if that has anything to do with these fascinating group if soldiers

Think of the wound a knife makes. Blade at least an inch wide, more than 6" long. A heavy rifle having to move a rifle is bulky. Up close, the barrel can be deflected., A soldier is inside of the gun barrel, the gun isn't much use except, striking and blocking. A big weapon, where Arditi have much easier maneuverable knives, stabbing and slicing. Then being well skilled with maneuvering, blocking, parrying, that's more than someone drafted in, taught to shoot and a few basics.

Just for historical contribution: there were something similar troops before Arditi, the Compagnie Della Morte ( Death's Companys ).
From that the High Rank decided to organize them better for most effective results.
These men would be extremely sought after for there skills. I was watching a video of the" Lajolo Knife System". method and was wondering if his family background was associated with the "Arditi".
The Arditi were Sardinians of "151° reggiment of Sassari" and my great gandfather was one of them, but during an assault in the Isonzo River he died PS: the Sardinian knife is called Lesorja or Lesorza, Leppa and is normaly use for kill animals in the country side or for cut and eat meat, chees etc...etc...

Sassari brigade "dimonios" (demons) are sardinian soldiers that fought during the war, Arditi are voluntiers picked from Alpiniand Bersaglieri. Two different things.

D'Annunzio had lauded the Arditi in the Fiume Enterprise and returning Arditi joined up with the fascists bringing with them a lot of the tricks they'd learned from D'Annunzio, the roman salute and the eia eia eia chant etc. Not all Arditi supported the Fascists however, there were left wing ones too like the Arditi del Popolo

Nice video, though I do not believe te use of the Resolza Sardinian knife. This has normally no fixed blade and no lock to fix the clasp knife blade. Also the design is a better cutter than stabbing knife. I saw very few examples of fixed blade Sardinean knifes, but I still would not say that they are optimized combat knifes to penetrate thick cloths.

History Uncovered- Like your vids, but you're seriously preventing yourself from getting major views by your narration style; monotone and bored sounding is not going to get subscribers. If you don't sound interested, why should we be? Again, I enjoy your content, but your presentation needs work. Then you'll be a hit.
Narrating isn't easy.. especially when you have to say and pronounce every word perfectly. One mistake and you have to do it all over again. I'm definitely not bored narrating..I'm making sure everything sounds correct. I kind of sound monotone normally.. Oh well...I'll keep trying.
History Uncovered- Believe me, it's very clear that you're reading your script, that's why it sounds unnatural and a bit too grim (even despite the subject matter), making it tough to digest quite interesting information. You're very easy to understand so less focus on pronunciation, and try to visualise that you're telling this to a person sitting in front of you, that will really let out the passion, get the viewer engaged. I'm not saying that narration is easy nor am I just railing on you, I don't want you feeling defensive, I think that your channel could be a real hit, making your latest video the standard in views and not a fluke, and these few tweaks might be what you need to really break out.

I think thy used a different knife. The Sardinian knife you mentioned & pictured is not a dagger and has no locking mechanism witch would make it almost completely useless in battle. I know this because I have one hand made in Sardinia and it more akin to a peasants knife or shepherds knife.
@Kung Fu Warlock yes but this knife in the video has no locking mechanism and can’t be used in combat the only thing it’s good for is for a picnic or utility task but it wouldn’t be safe for combat it would most likely cut the persons fingers off who is using it !
