When I’m away from our family farm I just watch this video to hear the B clap the air through the trees like ours does when we’re out cutting wood. Love it!
Spent my summers on a dairy farm In northeast Connecticut. The ride on the model b brought back many good memories. That was over 55 years ago! Beautiful restore. Thanks for the ride and memories!
wish my model 50 looked that good, but then again, I probably wouldn't want to use it brush hogging like I do with it now. Love the sound of the old John Deere tractors. The neighbor had an A when I was a kid.
The square rear axles say that it is a late model 1950 or newer. The decals maybe should be closer to the front on the side ones. But if he got the decals from Jorde’s, they would have told him where to put them. Mighty nice looking tractor. Mine may never be that nice, but I like to use it too much.
what year model is this tractor? my dad just passed away and has a john deere that looks just like this video but very rustic im having idle problems and the serial plate has been removed.
hunting and stuff thanks! I’d always wanted to own my own two cylinder John Deere, I now have one. It was fun working with my Dad fixing this old tractor up. Have a great day!
@CarolMeyer-pv5ub It’s a 1950 model B. It has a magneto, meaning it was built earlier in the year. The B’s built towards the end of 1950 had a distributor.
Can you shift on the fly or no? I mean why would you want to. But I watched another video and guy was saying you could but he didnt try it. I mean why would you wsnt to it not anything to tare up it's antique.
I have not tried shifting on the fly with this tractor. My dad however used to farm with these old two cylinder John Deere’s and was skilled enough to do so.
Okay right on yeah them 2 cylinder are heaven. Nothing like hearing a 2 cylinder puttin around. I was just curious didnt know if you could or or it a big no no.
I still have the 49 B and 630 jd I started driving on my parents farm 52 years ago. Dad taught us kids how to do this because pulling a load of grain out of the field you had to start in a low gear. It’s a sound and feel thing. You listen to he engine rpm, feather or drag the clutch lever against the belt drive pulley to match the rpm speed to the gear your trying to get. The applies whether your going up or down in gears. Most important thing is you do not push the gear shift hard or jam it into gear! When you get it right, it will go into gear smoothly without “grinding” or jerking. It takes practice. Beautiful restoration!

Great video. Just purchased a 1948 JD B today. Look forward to restoring it.
Absolutely beautiful! Wonderful tractor!
Hey thanks!

Grew up driving a 1950 b standing on the platform looking through the steering wheel with my dad on the seat. So miss it
Me as well Rick ... Early 40's B with my Pop ...

@DanielMeyer-Is5ph It is an early 1950 model. It has a magneto, the later 1950 models have a distributor. Thanks for the comment.
Nice video
alex hess hey thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

Really nice b

Very smooth low speed idle. Some of the JDs idle as though there is some slop in the governor and linkage.
Fantastic video
Paradise on earth
Sounds like it has a dual feed carburetor on it, from a Model 50 John Deere.
That thing looks like it rolled off the showroom floor and sounds like it.
Hey, thanks!
Pretty nice tractor, but the decals are not correct. Side ones and “be careful “ one. Square rear axle means that it’s a later year 1950 to 1952

Showwww. Lindo modelo. Qual o ano por favor ?
I have a chance to buy a model B just like that and just as pretty.
$5000
Worth it?
I'd really love to own it...
Yeah it's worth it. Just store it under a tarp or in a building cause it doesn't take much to get water in the engine
What year is the old girl.
1950 model

Forgot to mention on the rpms. If you going to a higher gear you have to slow the engine and opposite going down in gear. Good luck!
At what rpm did the two cylinder JD’s operate?
Around 1,250 max
Bruce Janzen I haven’t put a tachometer on the engine but it should be about 1250 on the top end.
