From a 50 year old who's been to more live bands than I can remember, this is one of the best singer, song writer, musicians I've seen, and the rest of the big push are top class......What a quartet 👏👏
5 years ago I was in a shit mood about having to work in Brighton for a couple of weeks away from my family .. wandering about on a lunch break came across Ren busking .. been listening ever since. I am surrounded by talented people but it’s just next level… pure… SOUL.. He and so many amazing musicians are a credit to Brighton !
It's actually Ren's song. He wrote it and performed it solo but decided he'd like to record a version with Chinchilla. Chinchilla was great vocally, no doubt about it but so was Ren. He was also proving the musical accompaniment on electric guitar, wrote it, arranged it and produced it. There are too many posts to that track, raving quite rightly about Chinchilla, that hardly mention Ren. He deserves more credit there. His voice is incredible in it too.and he allows her voice to stand out by choosing to stay in a lower register, for most of the joint vocal parts, even though he has an amazing falsetto and a wide range besides. His vocal control and delicate touch, coupled with the ability to roll in and out, from head voice, to chest voice and back, totally seamlessly, is incredible! I love it when he hovers right on the edge of his voice breaking too. Just beautiful! Full of character and emotion. :)
I was there that day - the whole session was absolutely brilliant - and I made a music expert friend come along with me. He was totally mind blown and has been a Ren fan ever since. I didn’t realise at the time how absolutely beautiful this song is and what a privilege it was to be able to hear it live. I have now played it hundreds of times - both this and the version with Chinchilla - and it is just stunning.
‘Sertraline and a sip of serotonin’ wow, just had to stop and pause for a few minutes. Been years trying to describe how I feel to my wife, family, friends, and Ren sums it up in this song. Feeling so at peace for hearing this x
It resonates even more when you realise others are fighting the same battle as you. I'm here in Australia, but just know though, that no matter where you are, we are fighting together.
I’m 60yrs old & usually think I’ve heard it all before but this young mans vocals & song writing is fantastic he reminds me at times of Jeff Buckley 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
His voice made everyone stop talking and watch. I love that some people do not have their phones out and are in the moment. I do understand some people have their phones out to capture that moment. Ren is new to me, but i feel like i have known him for years through his music. His voice is something special and he needs more recognition. And he will 100% get that soon
This is incredible. Bowie said that Lorde was hope for the future. If he'd lived today he shure would say that Ren was the big hope for the future. You're a genius Ren!
lorde is manufactured pop, the south park charachter (randy marsh) relentlessly takes this piss out of lorde by pointing out in a satirical way that anyone can be lorde, anyone can do that. I think that what lorde does is basically elevator music, i doubt she could stand in front of a street crowd with nothing more than a guitar, I doubt she could sing in tune or in key without using auto-voice-correct, autotune technology.
What a great voice Ren has. Incredible talent there on the streets of Brighton for absolutely anyone who is lucky to be there when they are playing. From a 77 year old Brighton Boy in Sydney Australia.
It's so great that you can be carted back to your youth with the amazing talent in Brighton, especially Ren and his cohorts. I'm 68 and the Brighton beach buskers have really made me think there is more to life and music than we will see from the money hunger Studio executives who at times can't see past thier wallets .
What an artist. Britain really does produce some amazing talent. Big Shout from the US. Loving Ren and also other various UK based acts like Sleaford Mods, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Goldie, Underworld, Faithless, Massive Attack, Stereo MCs, Orbital, Tricky, Unkle, The Streets, The Bug, AllFlaws
audience..don't all know what they are witnessing. also like the imperfections in his guitar playing and needed a break to gather his voice at the end.. love it.
I’ve lived through the 60’s music and every decade thereafter and there are few musician who touched on mental heath issues, but no-one puts the issues I, and millions of others who suffer with mental health issues, so succinctly, in lyrics and fantastic music that this 64 year old thoroughly loves. To REN…thank you for shining your bright light into what can only be determined as the dark hole hiding mental health. Love ya Bro. Keep pushing the boundaries through your brilliant lyrics, music and “can do!” attitude and someday the numbers of ‘Chalk Outlines’ will be zero and the “great big smiles” will be from genuine happiness and not just a facial expression to propitiate discrimination and the prejudices of those who pay lip-service to actually assisting those who suffer from enervating mental health and related anti-social behaviour. REN FOR EVER
with or without Chinchilla this song keeps making me cry anytime I hear it. Absolutely beautiful, love it❣️ Thank you. Lots of love and hugs for you all ❤️😊
This song just gets to me for so many reasons. I mean how does Ren do it every single time. Don’t think I have come across such a talented and inspiring person/musician. Just amazing as always. Thankyou Ren 🫶🏻🙏🏻
55 now, music lover all my life and this guy and his friends just reinvented music in the best way possible 💕 Wishing u all the best for the future young Brother....
Wow, how incredibly this just makes you melt. As you cry. I hadn’t realized how much chinchilla made this song seem as if that light was lifting the darkness of sadness Simply put it spell bound in it beauty
how tf you managed to assemble that much talent in one band in a small english resort city few americans could find on a well-labeled map i will never understand.
Simply powerful. The instruments are stripped down to just guitar and fully show off his vocal skills and also that although the notes are slow - if you arrange them in the right order - you create a masterpiece. That line though - In the gallows - im balanced on my toes so i can breath. POWERFULL.
OMG OMG wouahhhh scotchée phenomenal I love you REN j'ai pas les mots assez puissant tellement suis émue au larmes merci merci à tous musiciens quel talent brillant génie Ren j'aimerais être à vos côtés salutations depuis France 😱🇫🇷👍👏🎸🎵🎼🎶🙏💖
really sweet how people started to leave when they thought it was over and when ren sang the first line im still here they immediately proceeded to listen
Merci
I'm about to fly over to Brighton and just walk around until these 4 are back playing on the streets again. Please make it happen quick, I'm in shit shape.... can't walk around too long.😂
I walked many days through that street, never had the chance to see him live, but oh, just to be there and enjoy that music is a gift…. Brighton is one of the coolest places in the world, REN a genius
Bangs out this belter, band mates chatting in the background having a break, towards the end just looking at him knowing he's special and they should keep quiet while he's performing 👍👏👏👏🏴🏴🏴
A few months ago, I heard this song processed by a Hungarian singer, Azahriah. Somehow he was so touched (though I felt it wasn’t his music) that I could have heard it somewhere. It was there that I realized that this song was in my soul. When I recognized and uttered to myself the dreaded 4 letters PTSD. I had these feelings all along, which is also in your song. Now that I’m writing a book a lot of times it helps me get bored. Ren you are is very inspiring! Thank you for the experience! ❤️
Having just lost my mother, this is one of the most touching songs I've ever heared, and brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.. But im addicted to listening to it, it makes me happy sad ❤😢😊
63 just around the corner here, Ren is simply fucking phenomenal, and the Big Push equally amazing, the talent, I would say one of I would confidently say THE BEST by far ❤💯❤
perhaps one of my faves if not my very fave bc this is how it feels to have lyme 💚💚💚🦠🦠🦠 like living as a zombie but starting treatment again tomorrow!!! I never tire of these songs ever
I keep on playin' this over and over again, working on a poetry project 'round the late Johan Cruijff (it's a good thing 14 was so important in his life as well as in a sonnet... but without Ren I'd be far from nowhere in the bad sense of meaning!) I can only tell this and insert a thousand times
From a 50 year old who's been to more live bands than I can remember, this is one of the best singer, song writer, musicians I've seen, and the rest of the big push are top class......What a quartet 👏👏
Agreed!
Agreeee
True! Love your comment
Ren's talent is really unreal! The others too have crazy talent!
Agreed! I want forget that day Ren moved ma soul to do something for my soul :)
Look kids: no autotune, just pure brilliance and talent
Absolutely hooked on Ren, this man sings better busking then a lot of artists sing with tuners!
yes

I agree. I also think his guitar playing is incredibly expressive.
@@lindsayheywood7195that show in patience . I can’t stop watching that one on awe every single time
@@karmen181 sorry, not sure what you are trying to say.
I think that's because everyone goes into it knowing Ren is brilliant. Chinchilla is the newcomer for us. 😊
I was there that day - the whole session was absolutely brilliant - and I made a music expert friend come along with me. He was totally mind blown and has been a Ren fan ever since. I didn’t realise at the time how absolutely beautiful this song is and what a privilege it was to be able to hear it live. How lucky :). Did he play more of his solo stuff?
@@nondetection8882 Yes, this particular session was very long. There are other videos of that day on UA-cam.
I just saw an Irish Wolfhound enjoying the show! Good boys! 🐾🐾
@@johenderson3742
Yes, that’s one of my Irish Wolfhounds. 🙂
Very envious of you,
To see these guys perform live must have been amazing.
And Your right this is an absolutely beautiful song

Like number 69. There's some serotonin for ya 😂. Nice!
Same! My husband doesn’t get it. I tapped his leg at that part and said “yes! My stupid meds”
Oh! I thought the lyrics were “such relief in this sip of serotonin “ lol. What is “Setraline?”
One of the best and most moving songs ever written. Chills even hearing it for the 100th time.
Ditto
Same here!!!!!!💯🫶
every time 🥹
This guy is a genius, plain and simple. Every so often I come across some amazing music, this is one of those times. Keep being you Ren.
This band was absolute class. The best we’ve had in years. Each and everyone of them are so so talented.
Agree 100%. Best band in the word atm.
Can't stop listening to this - it's real, live and sooo cool, what a beautiful artist makes me wanna cry ❤😢ina happy way
oh go listen to the version with Chinchilla - makes me cry every time :)
I’m 60yrs old & usually think I’ve heard it all before but this young mans vocals & song writing is fantastic he reminds me at times of Jeff Buckley 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
oh dude, go listen to the 3 part songs - Jenny and Screech and Violets tale - thats a story :)
Great comparison that. This guy is simply sublime.

Bowie would have loved Ren 100%
Fuck yes. Ren and Chinchilla- no more important artists than them WORLDWIDE.
I like the live version better than the official video. Damn, Ren is simply fabulous.
What a great voice Ren has. Incredible talent there on the streets of Brighton for absolutely anyone who is lucky to be there when they are playing. From a 77 year old Brighton Boy in Sydney Australia.

I love the bit where the drummer started focusing on Ren and actually listened even though he's probably heard the song a million times.
This is my favourite performance of this song, the emotion is literally pouring out of Ren's soul through his guitar and voice. Amazing!
This song holds up every bit as well with just Ren, a guitar and a mic.

Lucky are these people in brighton witnessing this greatness ❤
audience..don't all know what they are witnessing. also like the imperfections in his guitar playing and needed a break to gather his voice at the end.. love it.

What a voice. I know he's leaning more towards rapping nowadays, but I wish he still mixes in "pure singing" songs like this.
I agree. I'm not a fan of rap, but I am a fan of Ren, and I think this is an amazingly beautiful song. I wish he would do more songs versus rap.

oh go listen to the version with Chinchilla
This guy is special
He fills my being with his voice
Ren is the best musician imo. HE CAN DO IT ALL. MUSIC IS HIM
I actually like this version of Chalk Outlines better than the one with Chinchilla.
It's an unpopular opinion, but I agree.
Their duet is great, but the solo version just hits me a bit different
Me too. I seem to have become addicted to this solo version, and can't stop playing it.
Same
Both versions are phenomenal. I can't pick a favorite ❤❤❤

Brighton what a place to live! Love love love
Tellin'my story. Telling a lot of peoples' story. We need this, all over the world.
This song is something else.
SO good to see the world showing love and support to such a talented , multi faceted storyteller
Such a beautiful song with such heavy content. If you haven’t seen the live version with him and Chinchilla it will bring a tear to your eye.

An inspirational soul ❤
Es una mezcla del de Pracky Blinders y Santiago del Moro. Que genio
This version hits me 😢 Stunning 💖
The dog is just listening to Ren singing and playing with the guitar
I keep on playin' this over and over again, working on a poetry project 'round the late Johan Cruijff (it's a good thing 14 was so important in his life as well as in a sonnet... but without Ren I'd be far from nowhere in the bad sense of meaning!) I can only tell this and insert a thousand times
Listen to this everyday. I just need it for my soul. Love 💕
WOW
Tranen in mijn ogen zo mooi bedankt REN .🍀⚓💞
Beautiful so beautiful WOW 🙏❤️
Amazing talent, i've not seen a Ren performance that didnt make me go WOW!
Having come back from my first Glastonbury the only negative was Ren Was not headlining! ❤️🎸🎹🎼🎤
Just beautiful! Guitar sounded especially great here.
Beautiful song by a beautiful human.
Ahhh absolutely 💯 my favourite. Thank you soooo much . Made my week 🙏🥰
First time I heard this song, with Chichilla (amazing voice), I stopped what I was doing, listened and watched. Your lyrics hit a nerve, Ren.
