I like when he said “I knight thee a photographer”, because he’s right, the only way to be anything is to try it, consistently, until it is a thing that you do, and then a thing that you are. Whatever the case, thanks Ed, for being you.

@@pennyhemens478 what I mean is all my life I’ve doodled and sketched and painted and taken photographs on my Polaroid but I never thought of myself as an artist for doing those things, because I’m not very good at drawing or painting and I don’t know shit about photography and just take pictures of stuff I think is cool. Seeing Ed’s art and hearing him talk about it really did make me look at my paintings and portrait and landscape drawings and Polaroids as art and he made me reconsider why I have never considered myself an artist.

Ed is truly and outsider artist. You can’t get more outsider than a skater (albeit an 80s-90s skater) who is a self taught artist. A true original.

One of my favorite things about skating is the general diy attitude. On top of building our own skate parks, so many skaters design their own deck/wheel/truck graphics and shoes and a lot even start their own companies. I know it’s comparing apples and oranges but you don’t see pro NBA/NFL players starting their own basketball/football companies

So rad! I’m 43 and still remember getting an Ed Templeton deck for Christmas when I was in like 6 or 7th grade. It’s all I wanted. I remember getting hyped seeing him in New Deal ads in Thrasher doing one-footers. I was like stoked, his style is so rad. Christmas came and opened all my gifts, no Templeton deck. I was bummed, until a little sliver of a deck was peeking out behind the tree. I was so stoked. I couldn’t believe it. My mom worked so hard to get that for me from Fairman’s. I’ll never forget it. There’s a picture somewhere of me holding it. Time to find it! Thank you Ed! Thank you Thrasher!

The skating , The artwork , Music choice , The Photography , That impossible over the motorcycle , Welcome to Hell F@cked my mind up ! but most importantly ‘ Knowing Ed is out there doing His thing is akin to how I feel after Listening to Leonard Cohen or reading Chicken Soup for the Soul or watching a Coen Bros movie… content , free , and inspired to keep creating , trying new things , looking at things differently , enjoying the process and hating the process and loving it again .
