I agree that the Govt can do better and it should, but the problem of ingratitude, if any, does not stem from the unawareness or the refusal to acknowledge we have it better, but occurs when the very people we can be grateful expect us to be and these expectations of gratitude is conditional. Ex-MP Lee Bee Wah is fond of imposing such expectations and it comes with a strong undercurrent of rebuke in her delivery. Gratitude is ultimately important for our mental healthand we need to be reminded but never expected or imposed.
