  • Kato N scale NYC E7 that was sent in with lighting issues.
ESU LokSound had been previously installed by someone else.
As I popped the shell, things became apparent that whoever did the install left a lot to be desired.
I'll be the first person to cut someone slack if they mess up attempting to do things themselves. That said, this was a store. That was charging money. Apparently the owner had issues with it several times and the store attempted to 'repair' it 3 times before washing their hands of it and telling the owner they were on their own.
Anywhoo...to make a short story long, the quickest and easiest course of action was to modify this install to be like every other E7 install I've done previously.
Dismantled, debris removed, frame machined again so it would accept an ESU 11x17 speaker and housing (housing was 3d printed since the last time I ordered, ESU was out of the housings...they're since back in stock).
Cleaned, lubricated and reassembled mechanism. Repaired and modified the light board and installed a new speaker. .Soldered the V5 micro decoder back in cleaning up the leads a bit here and there. reprogrammed the decoder and tested.
    Sound file is S0761.

I hope you learned something...If anything, the takeaway is metal shavings and filings are bad.
If you already knew that, and did not learn anything new, I hope you were at least mildly entertained. :)
