That futuristic sounding synthwave style intro is a work of genius composer and producer David Foster. He contributed the themes of main movie score and also produced the soundtrack album with a lot of great bands of this awesome 80's flick.
Such a great intro. Screams fun, possibilities, big hair, bright colors, cheesiness, and not to mention a time when people didn't take themselves so seriously.
I'm sure that alot of people can identify with Brantley Foster/Carlton Whitfield. Graduating from College, starting at a Fortune 500 Company and although you may start in The Mailroom you work hard and prove yourself and anything is possible.
I am so glad I was born 1981. I had watched this movie numerous times back then. The movies overall had so much heart and energy. You rarely find this nowadays.
What a great intro. Captures a wide variety of summertime New York City life. Awesome 80s rock song by Night Ranger. They play the whole damn song. Not 10 seconds. Why doesn't Hollywood do this kind of crowd-pleasing stuff anymore. WHY I ASK YOU? WHY WHY WHY???
What I don't get is when I bring up the official track for "The Secret of My Success" from Night Ranger here on YT, 1/3 of the responses are downvotes! Why?... ua-cam.com/video/_nfGGkCaeyU/v-deo.html
I still get goosebumps from the opening shot of the Universal logo with the music. Just something magical about it. Like something exciting was about to happen
I love this intro., but I remember not liking the movie much. What I remember is the boss's wife jumps Brantley, and Brantley fakes his way to an executive position. Not my cup of tea. The romance between Brantley and Christy was nice, though. She looked glorious. :)
I was a teen when this movie came out (grade 11)! First saw it at the drive-in theatre in Langley BC (Drive-in shut down a couple years later to all our disappointment, nothing to do with the movie, obviously!)... About 15 km from where we all lived, near where Mickael J Fox is from... None of us knew him, or that he was from OUR neighborhood! Best movie ever, esp to see at a drive-in!
How could you not have known Michael J Fox by this time? He was pretty much a mega star by the time this hit the silver screen. Grew up not so far away either down in Bellingham, WA.
I love everything Michael J. Fox but this was his prime. This was him after getting a huge hit and that combined with the music, hair, clothes just screams style. ❤
@@davidbutler1857 I really have no idea. Not a soul was in sight except me walking alongside some buildings near time square. I was video game shopping
I wasn't sure what I was going to do after college 30 years ago but after watching this movie in the theater, I was obsessed w working in corporate America. Got the job, office, all of it. Amazing, because I'm a lazy pos but this motivated me to an extreme.
Honestly, I don't know how many times I've watched this movie. It's always something new to me whenever I watch it. Love the Water Fountain track so much! David Foster, one of the best music composer!
My home room teacher showed us this on our last day of school. We were 12. It inspired me leave my small town and head to the “bright lights, big city”! 😉.

This movie reminds me of my dad very much..a nerdy car fanatic, hardworking and determined ..he moved his young family to a new country when things started going south, im glad he did although it was tough. He ended up lightyears away from what his mum imagined for him. i never really saw him growing up because he was always flying all over the world. When i was a kid my dream was to have a corner office. That´s a young Cindy Crawford in one shot.
True story.... after seeing this movie on HBO I dressed up in a suit to my freshman classes in high school and was ready to take on NYC that weekend wanting to be like him... what dreams I've had...
I love this movie so much. It’s fun and silly and very 1980s. Question for all who have seen it: How did Bradley expect to make it big with his scheme? He was still on his mailroom salary. The ending was because of a plan based on trouble. For those who haven’t seen it, please do. I have not really revealed much in this comment. It’s really fun.
That's definitely a problem with the script, it's never clear what exactly his plan is to parley his scheme into getting a better job, and when he is finally exposed he doesn't use it as an opportunity to pitch himself, so he's just fired. It worked much better in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
"Elmer Whitfield's cousin, Carlton went off to New York a normal boy. Came back with his head shaved and an earring stuck in his cheek...." How many of you caught that as the origin of the Brantley's alter-ego Carlton Whitfield?
cincinnati6595 I did! That's the difference between an active listener and a passive listener... An active listener pays attention to every small detail... It's actually kinda cool how the movie did that!
I had no idea that David Foster worked on The Music of this Movie. He's amazing a true Canadian Treasure. Also is the Lady at 3:32 Terry Farrell (Ex-Jadzia Dax) Star Trek Deep Space Nine.
A lot of people don't remember this movie did better at the box office than Lethal weapon, RoboCop, dirty dancing and predator which were all released the same year.
Only 80's movies you can repeatedly watch and never get bored with.
@David C We all do! If we're not millennials
Now you got liberals looting and rioting destroying New York sad
@@erikjohnson395 Yeah, some of them have their heads shaved and earrings stuck in their cheeks. Imagine that!
ABSOLUTELY!!!!! 😁
Totally agree
This is maybe the most 80's of 80's movies. The music, Michael J Fox in his prime, the boundless optimism, the hair. One of my favorites.
80's just ouze optimism all over the place, man what a time...

love this version so much better than the song itself, and it’s a great movie
Brilliant, it immediately creates a certain basic mood, a promising anticipation..
