A much more peaceful version of the classic Russian AK-74 rifle, the Yunker BB gun was produced alongside full auto AK and semi-auto Saiga rifles at the Izhmash factory (Izhevsk, Udmurtia, Russia) from 1997 to 2015. This air rifle shoots 4.5mm steel BBs and is powered by a 12 g CO2 cartridge. Its magazine has a capacity of 18 steel BBs.
What makes this air rifle interesting is the fact that it is mostly made of the same parts as a regular AK-74M rifle and will take any accessory that can be mounted on the military rifle. To be more precise, the Yunker rifle is closely modelled on the civilian semi-automatic version of the military AK: the Saiga sporting & hunting rifle. That said, almost all the internals of the original firearm were done away with on the CO2 version of the AK, with the notable exception of the recoil spring assembly, which is the same as on any AK rifle.
There were several iterations of the Yunker rifle along the years: the Yunker-1 (a.k.a. Junker) with a fixed stock from 1997 to 2000, the Yunker-2 (short version, similar to the AK-103) and the Yunker-3 (long version, similar to the AK-74M) from 2001 to 2007, the Yunker-4 from 2007 to 2015. There was also a very rare airsoft version called Yunker-5 that was produced from 2009 to 2011. The Junker rifle was quickly banned by the ATF because it was built on an original full auto AK receiver, which explains why later Yunker BB guns were built on a semi-auto Saiga receiver.
To sum it all up, the Yunker rifle is the perfect toy for grown-ups who have always dreamt of owning an AK but who would never want a firearm at home ;)
