95+ Hour AoE2 Game

- Опубліковано 10 лют 2022
- Two players are in a stalemate without resources... And both refuse to resign! It has been 95+ hours (game time) and it's probably the most ridiculous and unique storyline our community has seen in one time. Who will win this ranked game and win the battle of wits? I will be sure to upload the full storyline when this game completes. If it ever completes...

The Jinxer strikes again!

I'm both amazed and terrified that this is even possible. Not to mention the fact AOE2 is even stable enough to run an online game for that long without disconnecting. Truly impressive for a 20+ year old game.
More like a 3 year old game.

@@LeGrandJohnson that is exactly what ended the stalemate my friend. Tarik bin Ziyad went under the gothic mainbase castle and clanked his sword into the castle a thousand times. Too bad they didn't get murder holes.
It would have been even better if Rubenstock was not actually planning on being away for 3 days, but rather that that was all a ruse to get Andre to let down his guard.
I loved every second of these few days! Everyone was so hyped. Maybe it doesn't seem like much for a random bypasser, but seeing everyone joined together and united seeing a single game and expecting it's outcome was a very enjoyable time for me and big part of community!

Stupid question, fairly new to AoE here, but how do you save the game and exit without taking an automatic loss for the person/team who quits first? I was once so tired from playing a game into the night that I saved it, then exited, heard the loud screeching in my headset signifying I had "lost" the game versus the AI. I loaded the game the next day and won but not credited with a win since the system already recorded a loss for the game. I've only been playing for about 3 months so far.
@@UncleEarl97 not a stupid question,,, i am also new so i might not be the best person to ask but if it is not a ranked game then it will not stay on your history as wins or losses
I’ve always wondered what happened when both players ran completely out of resources
Omg, could you imagine if a tournament game went this way?

I would assume once the Stalemate Age kicked in a tournament organizer would step in and declare a draw.

I'd thought about this situation before but never before have I seen it even get close to this. Amazing. Might have to call in Microsoft to officially call this one a draw.
I've never seen this level of stubbornness LOL
Respect given!
The game just ended!! Rubenstock disconnected, a very disappointing and anticlimactic ending... And they were so close to making 100 hours, too! :(
If we're honest, it was the most realistic ending. So I'm not disappointed
"Oh sure blame it on your ISP."
it was going to be either ISP, Electricity outage, CPU overheating or server maintenance.. what we didn't get to witness though was if there was some Y2K factor past 99:59:59 D':
I think Andre heard that Reubenstock would be out for a few days so he found out where he lived, drove there, broke into the basement and flipped the main breaker, then went back to his car to make sure Reubenstock was really DC'd. You'd have to admit, that would be a big brain move. All's fair in warfare.
First there was forest nothing, followed by greatest hits such as ring nothing and everything nothing maps....
But now get ready for TIME nothing, THE MOVIE!
An AoE DE game cast by the legendary T90!
Coming sometime 2022
(when they finish the game)
Imagine if they started a week before New Year's and continue the game another week into the next year, imagine the billing by T90, "Longest multi-year AoE2 game ever!".
Glad to have witnessed that game live, sad it's over. It'll leave a hole in my life.
This is crazy. I haven't played aoe2 since like 06,. Did a quick search today for the game and found this. Amazing following still, makes me happy
Since you seem to have not checked up on the game since '06, are you aware that there are actually two "updated versions" of AoE 2 available? HD Edition from 2013 and the amazing Definitive Edition from I believe 2020 (or 2019?). Updated graphics, some QoL improvements and a ton of new civilizations.
Ironically this is the longest break from age of empires they've taken.
Now this like a real war, spanning for long periods of time, attacking while your enemies take a nap
In video game time this is like a 10 years war type of feel and that’s awesome
As I finished watching this video went to twitch and after couple minutes Rubenstock internet or something suddenly dropped and also disconnected from the game, giving andre the win. 11
This is not a stalemate.
It's a "draw by insufficient mate material".
or 50 hours rule
The king doesnt want to get involved
When the resource diminished, it feels like it's my first time seeing both sides of a war perform guerilla warfare, a syimetric asymetric warfare.
You know the "you played two hours to die like this?" taunt? Seems obsolete now.
Might be a Guiness World Record upcoming. Or maybe a timeout, if there is any on the server system, if there is maybe a random line in the code saying that the game cannot last more than X hours :D
Thanks T90 for sharing that, and more globally take the time to get videos extract from both players's stream, cuz getting the content, on such a long video, might take a lot of time.

It's easy to miss because it's not what draws your attention at the time, but Rubenstock's monk goes down to a stray arrow from the castle at 8:47 as it's shooting at the hussar. Even Rubenstock himself doesn't catch it as it happens, but a few people in his chat do.
Windows update is going to get one of the two.
I belive evrything in this video but not that AoE 2 player went on a date.
lmao
the constant waiting for someone to make a move was exhilarating, that was peak aoe content
Someone needs to put this save data in a record book.
You know, I would be interested in what it would look like if a game was actually developed around the idea of a single match lasting multiple days. Of course, players would need to be able to exit the game without resigning the match, but it would be interesting. It would be especially interesting to see what kind of gameplay mechanics such a game would have. The obvious problem would be players obsessively checking the game and going full gamer mode, so of course the mechanics would have to address that. Would be cool to see either way.
What a historical game. The longest one is the history of multiplayer RTS. It needs to go to Guinness Book of Records, it doesn't happen twice in a lifetime. I watched first 5 hours from Rubenstock POV and it was so tense, even watching the replay and knowing the result. It's a massive coincidence that Rubenstock saved a woodline until Andre was out of wood and pushed back with the extra wood from a tough spot.
there's no way I could have a game that long without my internet dropping at least once for a minute.
"this is not a cash game, this is not a tournament" lol...imagine this in a tournament. XD anyway, this will be history.... call the guinness book of records!

Side note: Anybody know any good casters for any of the Command&Conquer franchise? I.e., C&C, RA, and/or Generals? Or even, AoM, Starcraft, Warcraft, Halo Wars?
T90, i know you say you suck at those games, but i think many of us would still love to watch you learn, and progress, within those games. Im sure many in your community would be willing to help as well. Most "top-fown" RTS games are pretty much the same. I'd say AoE is the most complicated, so the fact you've got so much time into this game means you should be able to transition into any of the others with relative ease. I mean, most of those games only have 1 - 2 resources, and 2 - 3 "civilizations" with limited tech trees, if any. It's mostly about build orders and unit comp. (Wait... that sounds familiar!)
I mean...there are tons of casters for Starcraft 2 and if you want to go for Starcraft 1, there is no alternative to the casting archon of Tastosis (Artosis and Tasteless). For SC2 there are those two and people like RotterdaM, DeMusliM or ZombieGrub, to name just a few.
For Warcraft...there are the guys from Back2Warcraft and some people of the old guard like Khaldor or fischieee. Really depends on the language. If you understand german, there were many more "Back in the day", like orc1sh or the younger ones like Donathan or Balnazza
(can't name any for C&C though, sorry ._. played most of them, but was never interested in its esports aspects)
For me, it should have been a draw. I know Ruben has a different sight on this, but both cannot defeat the other one, as long as they are not afk.
I think Andre was saying, that he offered Ruben a draw, but he didn't want to. IF this is true (I did NOT have confirmation), I am happy with Andre winning it. But, form a competetive point of view, it should be a draw in my oppinion.
BUT I am happy that it happened, it was so funny and stupid tbh :D
Can you offer a draw in AoE 2? I didn't know that!
@@ottokarl5427 You can't.
THIS is Gaming History, you can't denie this fact. This should've been in the newspaper around the world.
Always build a trebuchet and keep it garrisoned in your castle.

Never seen an AoE2 map so devastated of resources. It is like empty badly made fan map. When I played as a kid I was thinking about how the map would be ruined when I chop all the wood, but then that never happened for me. Also would have been nice to have some trees slowly growing. Imagine having an epic battle for a young tree at the other end of the map :D
This game is a modern art piece on the subjectivity of value, entitled "11 ranked points"
Andre fell asleep 3 times during a ranked match against Ruben and still won. What a legend!
I once played a ludicrous size map against 5 AI players on super hard (modified Ai) and basically used up almost all the entire maps resources Stone Gold and Trees. My strategy to win was as such. Early game was Basically FATSLOB method until I could get to imperial age.. then created a Y shape funnel for enemy troops to pour in being bombarded from both sides by rows of towers and castles. Each castle was surrounded by housewalls or other buildings to prevent them from easily being taken down by a random Ram Rush of which there were several. As for trebuchet I had multiple gates in my walls so I could quickly send in Paladins or Champions to rush in and take out their seige before retreating back . As the game progressed I made multiple auxiliary bases and would surround each small town with two layers of wood walls then each base had a dozen of each military building.. archery range, stable and barracks and 1 monestary for healing. I then expanded each based and made a grid pattern of walls across the whole map then when an enemy would attack I would attack their base from the back or side forcing them to return back to their base to defend it. When they returned back I would pick off a few troops with horse archers or onnagers from a walled position then run back to base. Little by little I'd edge my way in while at the same time I made sure to target their trade carts as a priority to cut them off from both resources and trade. After I was able to defeat one AI I made sure to preserve one of their markets to trade with and I heavily defended it. Then after each enemy push I tightened my grasp over their resources and would build another row of walls and housewalls .. then in a checkerboard pattern I'd place the housewalls in such a way to deny the enemy the advantage of surrounding my units with their calvary.. this allowed for me to target them with archers and scorpions from a point of safety. The last part was the hardest because near the end they wouldn't go on a long journey to get to my main base allowing me an opportunity to stike . Instead they hunkered down waiting for me to attack. But judging by their unit composition they were not short on gold having had a long time to stock up. So then because they wouldn't leave their base I would attack from the left side with cheap garbage units.. and then I'd send in a dozen or so bombard cannons to take out 1 or 2 buildings before they would divert back and quickly take out my bombards.. then I'd alternate the composition. Producing garbage on the right and bombards on the left.. then I did the same thing top and bottom.. and built walls closer and closer until they ran out of resources and had no place left to run to to get more, so even if they had escaped the box I trapped them in, I had already used up all the resources on the map outside the box making their efforts worthless.
Props to the maker of the Ai because it didn't give up it fought until the very last pesant was killed 👏 👌 👍
It took me 27 hours
IRL hours or game-time hours? :-)
This is the most epic and crazy thing that has ever happened in the aoe2 community.
Very well done video!
can't even imagine. Last night when I was winning but didn't have enough gold to make siege, my opponent wouldn't resign, I went on tilt, lost some units to a mangonel, and ran out of gold. At that point instead of fighting a trash war I built towers and garrisoned them with all 85 villagers, went afk and made the opponent spend 35 minutes cleaning it up just to prove that my time was worth more than his.
He apparently didn't know about spies either. I was surprised how long it took.
In german Warcraft 3, in the EPS no less (like german championship that offered a lot of money for the time), a player named Eric just build lots of towers, wrote "have fun" to his opponent and went afk.
To this day that is one of the weirdest Esports-things that ever happened...
