I think ppl, like me, expected a grass putting green. It should have said, getting an artificial putting green installed at home in 2 days... I live in Oz and artifical grass can get too hot to walk on bare foot.
I wish you would have shown the seeming step and cutting in the cups that would have been helpful for a dyi-er, I’m putting in all the turf myself for a large putting green and it’s costing me around $2500.
I bought a 6x18foot green indoor outdoor carpet I have a cup that rebounds the ball Ican move it where ever I want I put it on cement or driveway and putt away roll it up when Im done or mow the grass short put styrofoam on bottom of carpet and chip on it roll it up when Im done
i'm surprised they didn't put down a weed barrier before installing the green. In my opinion if i was spending hard earned money for the green i would have made sure a weed barrier was placed. The green looks awesome though. Just my opinion.
I’ve been thinking about installing a putting green at home too. I’ll definitely contact Perfect Turf to get a quote. Would love to connect to see an example firsthand?
Looks great! just wondering what’s the maintenance like for something like this? do you have to mow the lawn? what about when there is a lot of rain, how well does it absorb water?
Hey Will, it really does roll like a real green, you can control the speed by adding more sand and compacting it, so you can honestly set the green speed to however fast you want it, of course you can't take out sand, so want to increase slightly. I've been able to take the feel from this green and bring it directly to the course with great results 😀
Will, I have an actual bentgrass green at my house. I have 2 acres so I can hit into it from about 80 yards. It is way more work than you can imagine! It’s also constant expense. I will add also that it is still not as good as the one at my golf course because I just don’t have the time needed to properly maintain it. I would go artificial for sure!
Luckily I haven't had any problems with that yet, however you do need to get a large roller and roll the green out every so often...I would call the company you had install it to see if they can swing by and roll it out, this would be solution I think
What did you pay for this install? I'm considering a 1000ft green in my backyard and I'm looking for ballpark estimates on what I'll need to save up. Thanks!
You can see in the video when I pull up the grass and show what's underneath, it is actually very thin....I would say just 1/4" in length on the green....the rough is about 1.5" in length 😀
You may have mentioned in your video but what is the square footage of the actual putting surface? I’m getting one installed 5/11 so curious how big it will actually be. Mine will be 575 +\- sq ft of putting surface. Thanks ahead of time, yours looks awesome can’t wAit for mine. Tour greens is building mine.
Thank you brother! I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am greatly looking forward to it, plus my two sons can grow up learning to play in their backyard! We are very blessed to have this opportunity. Thanks again! Take care!
I love that no mowing or watering. Maintenance free! That said, good putting requires adaptability. Slow greens, fast greens, longer greens, just mowed greens, just watered greens. Etc, etc. The only way you get that is with natural turf, not synthetic matts. But Mazeltov and enjoy in good health.
haha I wish it was that easy! taking care of a real golf green requires a huge skill set, time, and money....plus complete different type of grass, this was definitely the cheaper and easier solution 😄
My buddy had a private 9 hole private course but the novelty wears off after a while. Golf is most enjoyable when play on untested and new courses. Maybe it's just me.
Wow 9 Hole private course? that's amazing! I agree....golf is definitely best enjoyed when playing new courses, I don't think I would ever want my own private course....I'd rather join a nice private club and let them worry about maintenance and upkeep....backyard putting green has been fun though, less time on maintenance, looks good 365 days a year, and also a good spot for our kids to play around, thanks for the comment and watching the video!
It's about 10ft x 30ft I would say....perfect enough for a some mid range putts, but more important have enough hole locations for uphill, downhill, left to right, and right to left :)
Cyrus, are you saying that this cost you about $3000 ( in other post you stated that 1000 sq ft. will cost about $10,000 or about $10 sq ft so 10 x 30 = 300 sq ft at $10 per sq ft = $3,000)? And is that in U.S. or Canada money? ( $10,000 in US is right at 14,000 in Canada and 10,000 is $7,150 in U.S.) Just So you know, I have wanted to put in a putting green since I had back surgery more than 15 years ago. Played my whole life until I hurt my back The day after my best round ever. The two reasons I have not are "real golf green feel" was lacking and cost. If the cost is about $10 a sq ft U.S., that no longer is a problem...but when you play your home course, does your practice on the artificial green help you, that is, does the feel of your home green have the same feel as the greens of your local club course? And if it does not (i.e. in the past the artificial grass was too slow) can you add sand and pack it and change the feel and speed of the artificial to match the "real"? thank you for posting your build. I believe that it is not an exaggeration to say this could change my life.
@@dalewier9735 Hey Dale! Thanks for the comment...sorry for any confusion on the pricing/size of the green. The 10'x30' is just the size of the green, not including the rough area and two chippings bays (2 small round circles to hit chips from)...all in this was around $13,500 CAD. That's why I mentioned the 10k figure before. I'm sorry to hear about your back injury, but the day after your best round? wow, at least you have that great score to remember. To be honest the putting green has translated to great results on the real golf course as well. I mainly use it to practice putts within 10ft of the hole, so it really increased my make % from this distance, which of course leads to lower scores. Yes, you can add sand, compact it, and increase speed to make it faster. I would say it's one of the best investments we've made. Our kids love to run around on it. Our backyard looks amazing every day and saves me maintenance time, and it will last for 15 years. I have no regrets on this purchase!
Cyrus, immediately after watching your video yesterday, I went to the back yard with a purpose other than to mow it! If I "draft" the men in the church to help maybe I can have myself a putting green. Cy, I first played in 1968 at 7 years old and have played until the surgery. My wife told me the surgery was about 9 years ago not 15. But truley, the day before Thanksgiving 2011, I shot 71 on a local course (Crown Colony Lufkin, Texas- from the black tees. Course was rated top 10 best courses in Texas then.) THE NEXT DAY, I was helping a church member move and I blew disks out (L-5,L-6,) can't follow thru like I could. I had been practicing 40 to 75 yard wedges, 1000 to 1200 a week in my front yard and it had really helped. I must again play golf somehow, even if it is just putting and chipping. This home green setup is the very thing that will get me back in the game. Even my wife is for it because it will keep me from building and flying experimental aircraft! ( I am sure anything is preferable to her). I will make a point to send you pictures when I start this project. Thanks again and God bless
