Who’s back getting blown away by this incredible performance in 2024? He’s moving between so many harmonic styles so deftly. He was telling a story with perfect structure that keeps you captivated and the 7 minutes flew by. He’s the perfect combination of musical talent, amazing taste and unbelievable technique.
What i find truly impeccable is that his disease, osteogenesis imperfecta, actually causes him to be in constant pain. Yet he could play so gracefully and masterfully. This is what pure passion gives you.
He is in pain...but listeners would never know it when hearing his beautiful, masterful playing. His soloing is delightful. It's almost as if he is a part of the piano, the way he brings lovely music forth. He provides untold happiness to people all over the world. RIP Michel.
RIP
Ashamed to say I had never heard of him until 10 minutes ago. What an incredible guy and what a sad sad loss to die so young. Fabulous and very moving piano playing. Makes me very emotional.
You commented 10 yrs. ago; don't feel bad, I just heard of him 3 weeks ago. And just Now only- I learned that he has passed. I'm the one who's outta circ.
Unbelievable harmonic freedom, honestly i have never heard a pianist doing such crazy harmonies and yet still be so on point with the melody. I cannot understand how you can improvise something so complex so easily. Its truly next level.
I was just about to "How dare he?" as I had just listened to Duke Ellington's classic version. I quickly realized "How dare I?" He's magnificent. Thank you Mr. Petrucciani.
I was always serenaded by the works of Erik Satie and William Grant Still and other musicians alike.... but just then when I heard him play, I was connecting with a new side of music again. And yes it is a great immense feeling. Every composition I watch and hear him play, I fall in love with every chord progression and little notes he adds.. I feel blessed once again to have discovered something truly astounding. Thank you Michel for the good sound, I will forever remember this moment. Rest in paradise
pure genius.this man was a wonderful player up with the very best jazz players of all time.we are very lucky he visited us even for such a short time.may god bless him wherever he may be.nice upload many thanks.
Ooh. This little man with big hands, and big hands and an even greater heart. Add an unique talent and musicality and that was Michel. A very very special person that have enriched so many of us. Extraordinary indeed!
Brilliant. Despite the medical problems, he soldiered on and left us beautiful music. In this overcrowded World of solo jazz piano , he stood out. Fantastic. RIP.
I also am ashamed to say I had never heard of him until a stumbled at random on one of his vids a few minutes ago. I am totally amazed by his playing -and shocked I have not heard of him before. Very sad to find he died in 1999 a few days after his 36th birthday, he obviously had a lot more to give...
"I don't care if a mf'r has green skin and red breath if he can play" -M.Davis see also: above. Wow. God bless youTube and the age we live in that we can pull these performances up. I think I am just gonna sit and sip a glass. THANK YOU for posting!
Amazing recording of such an wonderful ballad...once beautifully recorded by the duke and coltrane and here , so different but so similar at the same time by petrucciani...arguable the best concert he ever gave, with the same passion he always used to put out there. Great musician, great music - rest in peace michael
Like Paul Morphy the chess genius , Michel Petrucciani came into our lives, and like a comet passing through , left us way too soon . :-( what a guy !!!!!
This man just heard things on another level, and it came out to entertain us, never heard anyone go into the harmonic possibilities that he did without it sounding discordant.
Like God is speaking. Sheer beauty. Just discovered what I'm writing was already being done by this god of jazz. Beautiful. Will I ever do anything original !!!! xxx

Harry and Basek, there is a marvelous documentary on him. I think it's on UA-cam.. Don't miss it.

Or more than one heart.
Ya. Mical is too good. Next level?! You mean transcendent or hyper-evolved.
Nicholas Freed He was, unfortunately he past away. RIP best Jazzpiano player ever🙏

One of the most beautiful songs ever written, and Mr. Petrucciani's interpretation is honest and true. Wonderful. Glorious.
Am I the only one not able to handle this level of pureness, growth, grace and beauty without melting inside?
Yep. Its just you. 🏆
Everytime I watch one of Petrucciani's videos I get goose bumps. Little man with a enormous heart.
He is big man in a small body. A musical giant.
@Ri De He was like a strange yet very beautiful phenomenon.
He Was A Little Man Whit A Great Talent.
In French: "Il était Un homme Petit au Talent Grand".
One of the best jazz pianist ever !
So true! ❤️... I'm crying!... He was GENIUS from the other planet, the most BEAUTIFUL in universe! 🌺
IMMORTALE!!! Grande Michel, grazie per averci trasmesso tante emozioni. Impossibile dimenticarti. Sei immortale!!! R. I. P.
There are pianists... And angels that caress the piano
I was just about to "How dare he?" as I had just listened to Duke Ellington's classic version. I quickly realized "How dare I?" He's magnificent. Thank you Mr. Petrucciani.
Please be acknowlegded... that Duke is his hero... as he said once on the stage . 😊❤❤
he was so great, the little giant
The most deeply emotional interpretation of this song
Quel pianiste immense.
One of the greatest geniuses of 20th century

Une interprétation grandiose, à nulle autre pareille. Absolument magnifique de sensibilité !
Genio assoluto!
Danke Michel!!!
This is one of the most lyrical performances I've ever heard....mesmerizing!
He just gave everything. No security net here, constantly slipping away, towards the edge with pure musical honesty.
Beautiful! I imagined Chet in my mind playing along with Petrucciani, it would have been just right.
carlosdavalos6247 whata concept ! you're right .

Of all the jazz pianists I've heard, Michel is definitely the greatest.

At this level of Excellence there is no difference between the player and the instrument they have each consumed the other
his body's small but his hands are huge. its like he was meant to be a pianist
But his feet can't reach down to the pedals. He made up his own playing style where no pedals are needed.
@@saxplayer57 He actually uses a lot of pedal here, thanks to the tool that his father designed for him
@@giacomocasartelli5503 I stand corrected. His father is a good man.

Tears in my eyes...so beautiful ♡

Michel wasn't here very long, but he woke up a whole mess of folks about what is musically possible! And he changed the world...
The world needs these ‘notes’ back. You can’t be violent hearing these romantic inspiring melodies.
What a special and specific intonation!! Genius is so rare and yet so easy to recognize!
What a coincidence, Ron. I never heard of Mr. Petrucciani before, but Iam really enjoying his music.
Thank you Michel, you touch my soul with your music.
