I like watching you because your vids are not all about - this is what I sold blah blah blah. Watching what people sold and how much for can get very boring. I rather gain knowledge from sellers like you and implement that knowledge into my business to improve myself. What sold vids are ok once in awhile but not every video. Thank you again. Keep up the good work
Cheers mate, I appreciate the support. Totally agree - what sold videos have their place (I do one every 2 weeks or so), but, like you, I enjoy watching videos that help me improve my eBay business most 👍
I like what sold videos every few weeks particularly what clothing sold. I agree its great to hear about the philosophy of running the business and practical tips on what NOT to do.
Nice to hear you mention 'being too old'. I'm retired and been on eBay since 2004. Decided to start selling again in March this year. I'm 75 on Monday and having a ball. I try not to beat myself up too much and just enjoy the sourcing, listing, packing. Sales are slow atm but them's the breaks. Love your videos and always learn something new. Thank you Sam.
Hi, Glad you enjoy my videos. Age is definitely not an inhibitor to success on eBay! And don't worry, I feel sales are starting to pick up big time for this Q4.
Yep. And there's a difference. One person asking "weird repetitive" and one sweet dude said he loved the vintage rock band shirt, but he's broke. Could we work out a better price. Hey, I've been there. It wasn't a wild, rare shirt. So we did and I got probably the nicest feedback ever. You know which ones toss up the red flags. Block 'em.
Hi Samson, I'm 62 and slowly building up a stock intending to start an ebay business in the very near future thanks to your videos and the inspiration I get from them. If I ever need a question answered I just look through your videos and usually find the answer. You are doing a great job and would like to thank you for the time and effort you put in. Many thanks, Dave.
Brother, you've been so much help!!!! I just found your videos two weeks ago and now Im killing it!! Me and my family thank you deeply for your sharing of advice.
Thanks Sampson. I'm in the early stages of launching a business on ebay and I get a lot out of listening to your perspective. We think alike in many ways.
This is gold! Thank you Samson. Your videos are so inspiring, informative, and interesting. I too, love being happy for other people’s happiness. Great to add to your toolkit of life.
Cheers Shelley, I am so glad you enjoy my videos. I agree, being happy for others success allows you to use their achievements as motivation to succeed yourself.
I enjoyed this video so much, largely because I'm excited to see someone learn as you have, so early in your ebay career. I've been working with ebay since its infancy in 1998. UA-cam is such a boon to us all, as much that we learn, as we do here, we had to learn then though rough trial & error and slow research. I could talk for a week about it, but as briefly as I can: Yes, block people. I have heard countless times "oh, I don't want to upset someone." Folks. There are a gazillion buyers out there. If someone is giving you any sorta trouble, they won't change once you start doing business. Block them. If you were standing next to someone at the bus stop and felt that way, you'd leave or move. Also, the point of valuing your time has been a hard one for me over the years and man, my husband (a phD in social psych, so he's kind of an expert here) has hammered home again/again that it's ok to just toss something if it WAS valuable, but the trend has changed. Re-donate it and move on. ALSO - you bought it for $1, you sold it for $15 and they hate it or found a flaw. Do a refund, get your fees back and let them keep it. Get it off your head, make them happy and move on. This is ALSO under the heading of valuing your time. Finally, (and there's more I love in this video, but I'm writing a book...) turn off the notifications and designate times, as you mentioned. Do we love the rush of "ChaahhCHING!" Sure. But you are VERY right. It interrupts what we were doing, and does derail your productivity. Ok, Message over. If new folks listen to your rundown, I promise, they will be so prepared. I can tell you: it took me years in the beginning without resources to learn all this. And I didn't think of the "turn off notifications" advice. That's outstanding.
Thank you for the detailed and insightful comment. I read through it and I agree with every point you made, time definitely does = money on eBay. Thanks for watching!
@@SamsonTV Thank you. I know it was long. LOL My son, who is a computer major and the most amazingly internet savvy person I know would have put "tldr" and said sorry. I appreciate your kind patience.
As someone who is new to eBay I'm planning to open up my store sometime around December. I used to sell items mostly collectables on Trade me NZ and became a trusted seller. Now I want and will upgrade to eBay. How I made trust on ebay was I began as a buyer so people can get use to me. I paid quickly and gave reviews and now I want to start selling.
One thing I've heard time and again is fear of failure. This is taught to us from an early age in school. You're expected to score high on every test and failing is the worst thing that can happen. In business we've learned we're going to fail, as long as you learn from it. I once tried to sell fine china. Besides being breakable, the shipping cut into profits way to much because after you've wrapped and double boxed everything, the box was HUGE! Lastly, it took forever to sell, that's how I learned about sell through rates. I call a loss of that type " tuition". I redonated what was left and moved on. .
I appreciate your insight, sounds like it was a good decision to redonate the extra stock and move on. Clearly it was an important learning experience. Thanks for watching as always!
Thank you for great content and encouragement. Just recently found your channel and subscribed. I started selling seriously on Ebay in January and still love every part of it after almost a year. Growing it daily now and excited to see it become more successful. I had been in a management job in the past and I love working for myself instead. It's definitely never too late to make a change or try something new!
I found that most of time the buyers that ask questions are the ones that at the end don't buy anything.. Also in order to avoid ridicules offers I set on the reject offers below certain amount.. so i don't get those silly ones.
I appreciate your very thorough information and was surprised at the number of subscribers to your channel. I honestly thought that the number should be double that at least. Appreciate your sincerity.
Sampson, Nice Job and great insight. Thank you for sharing these topics. It seems like every issue you talk about I have learned the hard way. A new trend I am experiencing is the Scammer who wants to purchase an item for more then you are asking and wants you to text them off line. Or the person who low balls you - you inturn accept the offer and they never pay. Tyng your item up for a few days. Why?? What satisfaction do they get from that especially when you are cordial, polite and accepted their ridiculous offer to begin with. Anyway, thank you again, keep them coming and I will keep giving you the thumbs up!!
You are a remarkable and very inspirational young man. I watch all the way from Ireland and have to tell you, you are one of the main inspirations for me starting eBay. I started only 3 months ago with £100 and now (3 months in) I'm making £4k profit a month! Please keep up the GREAT work
I really needed to hear this information. Thanks so much samson. I'm in the situation of working fulltime, studying art which is important to me but really want to have an e-commerce business and what sounds really interesting. So I had a lot of questions and have been researching a lot. I'm in Australia and wanted a Aussie channel to subscribe that had excellent information about running eBay business. I have gained a lot of good info from this video. And I love Siamese cats!!!! Had one as our family cat. So glad to have found you to research eBay.
Don't you worry that simply going along with lower cost returns will lead to you being scammed? If I sold a $20 item, and refunded the amount without getting my item back, the buyer basically got a freebie out of me if they were being dishonest.
Thankyou for subscribing! I turned it off around 6 months ago. I like not having it on because instead of constantly being distracted by it, I know once I get a break, I will have some sales to check in on. 👍
I had a buyer send me a two page email about her cancer treatments and her trips to the hospital in hopes that I would sell my item for a ridiculous offer. I didn’t respond. People are crazy.
does cancelling listings after they have finished, have a impact on the ebay account, I've have to cancel a few listings recently as I did not the check the condition of the item very well before listing, and did not want to send out the item with unlisted defects
I am going to respectfully disagree with you on refunding returns for less than $20 & letting them keep the item. In my opinion, this is just encouraging scammers! They have learned that they can get partial refunds or full refunds from sellers that do this. I don't care if I sold something for $5. If the buyer isn't happy, I will absolutely not allow them to extort my item or $ from me. Everyone is entitled to run their business the way they want, but I encourage resellers to not train bad buyers please.
I see your perspective. If the return is blatantly flagrant then I won't accept it. However if it is a cheap item (under $20 approx.) and something I cannot prove false, I will usually refund.
Did you find the video helpful? And what is your best advice for other eBay sellers? 🤔 Let me know ⬇️⬇️

Great tips. I also block buyers who ask weird or repetitive questions. You just KNOW theres going to be an issue when their item arrives.
Absolutely, I rarely ever actually sell something to someone who asks 3+ questions, it's not worth it.
Yep. And there's a difference. One person asking "weird repetitive" and one sweet dude said he loved the vintage rock band shirt, but he's broke. Could we work out a better price. So true about buyers asking a ton of questions and becoming nightmare customers post-sale.
Definitely, after the 2nd question I generally stop responding. Too much trouble.

I don't think so, if you don't want to cancel them you can use the out of stock option and lower the stock to 0.
Love it
