  • And, of course, it does Van Halen! Since some of the tracks on Van Halen's first album were done with a Les Paul, I guess it's no surprise!
"Runnin' With The Devil" is from Van Halen's 1978 debut album and is written by Edward Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and David Lee Roth.

    LYRICS:
I live my life like there's no tomorrow
And all I've got I had to steal
Least I don't need to beg or borrow
Yes, I'm living at a pace that kills
    Runnin' with the devil
    Runnin' with the devil
    I'll tell y'all about it
I found the simple life ain't so simple
When I jumped out on that road
I got no love, no love you'd call real
Ain't got nobody waiting at home
    Runnin' with the devil
God damn it lady, you know I ain't lying to ya
I'm wanna tell you one time
    Aah-yeah
    Running with the devil
    Yes I am
    Yeah
    Woo
    Woo
You know I, I found the simple life, weren't so simple, no
When I jumped out on that road
Got no love, no love you'd call real
    Got nobody waiting at home
    Runnin' with the devil
    Runnin' with the devil
    Runnin' with the devil
    Runnin' with the devil

Thank you, man! Yeah, bands use a lot of instruments you don't see on stage or in their publicity photos. Ace Frehley recorded the entirety of the first KISS album using an Ovation 'Breadwinner' guitar. He also recently admitted that he used Strats and Telecasters on some of the KISS recordings. Not sure how true that is. I know he has them. The story of the 'Breadwinner' is true though because there are enough pics of KISS in the studio back in those days when he was using that guitar.

@@agateenchantmentrockwizard5969 (LONG REPLY - BEWARE!) When I was young, my older brother (who was 3 years older than I) was a huge influence on my musical tastes. He would bring home albums and listen to them - and I liked what I heard. I was introduced to groups like KISS, Van Halen, Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, and many more through him buying albums.
I began to buy my own albums when I was 9 - shoveling driveways/walkways, doing yard work in the Spring/Summer/Fall, and sometimes getting some money from my Mom. My family would go to the Flea Markets and yard sales every single weekend when I was a kid. So, I could buy albums for anywhere from 25 cents to $2. I got a LOT of vinyl that way back then.
I still have most of it. I still have the first album I ever bought (retail) with my own money: KISS - Rock And Roll Over, which I bought in early 1977 with snow shoveling money.
I became a drummer in 1976 and played in the school bands. Then, in 1978, a friend's dad took a bunch of us to see KISS in New Haven, CT ( I grew up in CT ). Seeing Ace up there started the thought process of becoming a guitar player. I, then, saw the Ace 1977 picture inside the 'Evolution Of KISS' booklet in the album 'Alive II'. That made me really want to become a guitarist and own a Les Paul. But, the final straw was the song "Don't Look Back" by Boston. That was it. I wanted to become a guitar player and play that incredible song! That's what started this long journey.

@@Axess-sv8nq Thanks for sharing, very cool evolution of your progression in music/life.
      Okay long response...lol
I like you started out in school band as a snare drummer (74' freshman year) then in a little band we put together from band class, so learning and reading rhythm was significant for me.
In my junior year I met this girl and she suggested I take guitar with her and thus my start in guitar was born (it was just cooler to the chicks)... and of course I loved it.
I kept it up and learned more theory and playing. Then in the summer of 77 after I graduated, I had what became a life/music changing experience of seeing Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, Black Sabbath and headlining was Boston on the more than a feeling tour and it changed me.
Ever since I've been writing, playing & producing music and in the 90s I started doing video as well and love that too.
Okay long story but I do see some Correlations in our storys.
      Thanks for sharing 👍 😊

@@agateenchantmentrockwizard5969 (REALLY long reply) Yep! I remember hauling around the snare drum, playing in the parades, and playing on those little rubber practice things. I remember them insisting we learned 'paradiddles'. They were adamant about it! But, we never ONCE played paradiddles in ANY music piece we played. Go figure.
I remained in the school bands until 1981 (when I was a Freshman in high school). We had way too many drummers (18). So, the teacher/band-director booted some of us. My heart wasn't in it anymore anyway. So, I split. I was a guitarist for 3 years by that point anyway.
Ahh, so a CHICK got you to play guitar! Interesting! I had 1 class of Music Theory in high school - barely passed it. I know music/song structure. Modes - and other crap like that - means zero to me. Music is about art. The structure is the bare bones. I had to deal with a lot of Berklee School Of Music Grads (snobs) over the years. They all thought they were smarter than everyone else because they knew all the theory. But, none of them could entertain a crowd or 'feel' a piece of music. So, back to their day jobs (and paying for that Berklee debt) they went!
That's cool what you did in the 90's and the cool bands you saw. It was the 80's for me when I went to all the concerts. The 90's were sparse in the first half because I, stupidly, got married. That ended by the mid-90s and I headed out to the midwest (going to college, playing in bands).
I worked for a Sci-Fi/Fantasy convention company and met/worked-with MANY celebrities from Star Trek and Doctor Who. I met nearly all my childhood heroes - and they were decent people (back then)! I got involved in many aspects of music - and the music business. So, met a few rock-stars back then as well. It's been an interesting road.
I've reconnected with a few since then - now that we're all online. And some new ones contacted me about this channel: Neal Schon (Journey), Peter Frampton, Howard Jones (80s New Wave musician), Queensryche, Rudy Sarzo (Whitesnake, Ozzy, Quiet Riot), Jack Russell (Great White), Donnie Vie (Enuff Z'Nuff), Junkyard (late 80s' hard rock band), and a few more.
It's always weird when they contact me about my channel and praise what I do. It feels so surreal when that happens. My channel is small and, by UA-cam 'fame' standards, I'm a nobody - not even a speck of dust. But, the rock stars watch. And that's REALLY humbling! I feel blessed to have the people who watch me - no matter how many of them there are. Rock stars are among them - which seriously blows my mind!
