Definitely relate a lot to the story of phasing out Yugioh events. Competition is fun for a while but then it gets a little wearing and all the downtime of not playing for all that travel and effort getting there often makes it not worth the reward. I also think games at bigger tournaments (Almost any tournament) are not as fun because folks are playing to win, often at any cost, so you gotta be micromanaging rule sharking, slow play, all things that are not fun to have to do. And then even if you win it doesn't feel good because you've basically just ruined your opponents day since at a higher level tournament people are really invested in winning and it just made a majority of dueling interactions not fun. Master duel also does spoil you with how much yugioh you can play on it conveniently. It's basically made it so that the only time I want to play in person is when I play with my personal dueling group just because that means we'll be playing low level stuff, draft or some kind of playground format that you can't literally play anywhere else. Any form of constructed play that resembles the modern game I'd rather just hop on master duel than go anywhere to play it as it's easy to hop in and the dueling experiences are better than they are in person.
My nephew is coming over for the holidays and he randomly just told me he wanted me to teach him the rules of yugioh and that we should play. Man I have to find my simplest cards that are not walls of text and I won't be able to play synchros which is my favorite mechanic lol. There's just too much. Yugioh is such a big thing that a casual passerby will immediately get lost in its immensity without question. Heck Tearlaments itself was the prime example of everything "wrong" with yugioh. Like slow down! There's too much going on man.
I think xyz and links are the easiest mechanics to learn tbh. I learned by watching my opponents but the decks were to fast for the bs duel links non meta deck I built when I first started so I went home and built a stun deck and it slowed the game down so I could keep up and didn't have to ask questions every 5 seconds
I’ll say that half the conventions I went to like Magfest or Colossalcon East had some kind of Yu-Gi-Oh tournament or a cosplay photoshoot for free on top of having other stuff like parties, artist alley or concerts to part take in. Honestly I think the average Yu-Gi-Oh player would get more mileage going to an event that isn’t strictly sponsored by Konami for what you are paying for and especially if you aren’t really competitive.
My friend plays and only really watched DB doesn't care for any other anime, but we are "boomers" so the nostalgia is why we got into the game in 2021/22 and then the challenge of deck building and understanding the meta along with the competition between or friend group kept us playing
There will always be people who like one anime show/series, and dislike everything else anime related. I have friends who only like Death Note and nothing else, and other friends who only like Ghost In The Shell and nothing else, etc. So I would expect the same with some Yu-Gi-Oh fans, especially since you don't need to watch the anime (or know the lore) to enjoy the card game. That's actually the beauty of TCGs. You can enjoy the physical card game separately from the show itself.
Low key I'm the person who likes Yugioh but doesn't watch anime. Not because I have anything against it. I'm actually much more of an animation fan. I grew up watching yugioh, pokemon, scooby doo, futurama, dc animation, and have always loved it. For whatever reason anime just never really entered the fold for me.
Actually, I'm near the same page: I am attracted to anime and enjoy some specifics but generally can not be bothered. More oddly, I'm the one casual Yu-Gi-Oh player who generally dislikes all of its anime. (To be fair I only learned to play to support a younger sibling and otherwise should be playing MTG.)
I would still like to attend a YCS one day just for the experience. However, I agree that conventions are more suited to my interests. I get to meet voice actors, see cool panels, and like you guys said, a lot of these conventions also have Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments. If I want to play Yu-Gi-Oh! at a convention, I can do that too. I always enjoy going to conventions. Speaking of, I hope to see you guys at Anime NYC next year!
Perhaps a good name for the members only segments could be the Shard Of Greed ? Or maybe if you ended up doing clips of segments for UA-cam shorts, those could be your "Shards Of Greed"
Only events I go to are speed duel and occasionally an regional with a fun Rouge deck. Cause it's not like the anime , the card game is all just "your opponent can't play Yu-Gi-Oh"
Loving these! I'm exactly one of those inspired by the old anime and would love to sling cards one day 😂 I've only done it when I was a kid with my younger brother.
Only way to get ppl who dont play yugioh to go to a ycs is if you have old school yugioh on the VR device or make a holigram setup like the anime. Otherwise the game is way too complicated for most ppl. Nobody wants to get hit with hand traps. They want to duel like kaiba and yugi int he anime
I'm not feeling well with anything bigger than locals. Its hard enough as an introvert to step into locals. I tried visiting anime cons and the stuff you can get there is cool but overall its not worth it to me. Way too many people for me to feel well. And I'm more of a casual player and don't really want to compete at higher levels. I get the most fun out of playing Yugioh with my friends.
I love yugioh and even play competitively (have tops and everything with vv rn) but I don’t watch anime like at all, just not my interest. Been playing yugioh since I was a kid and everything. Love your content and especially these extra bonus talks😁
19:07 that's a community issue, my point being even locals anymore are turbo competitive win at all cost, there isnt any fun to it for the casual player. Konami should make an official alternate format specifically for the casual anime (character deck) scene. Like pick your favorite character and build their decks or something.
I will keep saying this: Yugioh needs to incorporate a supported format for casual players who grew up watching anime and who enjoy playing slower formats
i can't get past round 4 at regionals i grow tired of waiting for the rounds i get hungry and i just wanna go home lol so funny Alec would sleep that's awesome
So real talk these bonus episodes have been noce, but i thought you had to be a member to access bonus episodes? These have been free the last few bonus episodes.
It’s me I watch yugioh but never got in to anime. I’m sure there are some great ones, but the stigma, voices, tropes. and fan culture do more to disinterest me.
Thank you all for your support! I just realized I'm basically blast from sunlight the entire episode! ☀
I was about to say like half your body is obscure by the sunlight
You are just our sunshine in this yugioh world😂

You can play early synchros like Urbellum
They're simple
Gaia Knight etc
@@thaddeusrussell8919 Yeah thats valid. Just have em as an option maybe. It's better than pretending synchros don't exist lol.

@@manyhatsentertainment8685 based. That's a good point. And yes xyz is the easiest for sure.
Dude just teach him how to play the game maybe he likes how modern yugioh is played plenty of other people do
C2E2 in Chicago is a lot of fun! Dan Green and Eric Stewart were there this year!
When is the next one?
@@apsamplifier its every year around april i believe its the 11th this year

Haha, it’s me! I love Yu-Gi-Oh and hate 99.99% of all anime. I have finally been mentioned!
If we're doing Squad of Greed, I'm going to need Alec to intro with "Welcome back to the SQUAAA...AAAD of Greed!"
I hope the neighbors don't kill us over it...

@@cornet.silvergrey I generally feel like if you didn't watch one of the Yugioh animes as a kid, it's hard to get into it later on.
Whooooooo channel membersssssss!!
Also: I actually know one person who enjoys playing Yugioh competetively, but does not watch/enjoy anime, lol

I try to go to as many Time Wizard events as I can.
Even though I'm not a fan of the current Advanced Format, I still enjoy beatdown style Yugioh.

You guys should try out Toronto for a convention, there’s Fan Expo Canada and Anime North to check out
I’m the person that doesn’t really watch anime but likes yugioh
Everytime I try to watch something else it loses my interest
Loving these!
I'm exactly one of those inspired by the old anime and would love to sling cards one day 😂
I've only done it when I was a kid with my younger brother.
A great name for these segments could be holding priority since the sign off is pass turn.
Clash Con in NC next month. Dragon Con in GA is always fun.
Anime cons will always be where it's at no matter the era. Holla if you guys come to IKKICON in my tiny little town of Hutto, TX!

Keep the Pod of Greeds coming! xD

There is a way to do it, would take a while to fine tune the rules but it is possible
What about "Draw 2 More" for a name?
I got quite a few friends that love yugioh anime and hate anime besides dragon ball
Not everybody can rock hats y’all look slick af
Call these segments “The ClapBack” , player 1 has done his 1st turn pot of greed shenanigans, now it’s player 2 to clapback 😮

I like Yugioh and I’m not a fan of anime! It’s rare I’ll watch any
Ya after phantom rage got destroyed by the 2 player starter decks I never touched another yugioh product ever again.
Name suggestion MP:2. Main phase 2
I like yugioh but dont like anime....😅
