I just recently modeled for a photo shoot. The photographer had worked with the same team for years before moving to this city. This shoot was his first attempt to set up a new team to work with, so he had never worked with anyone before. The hairstylist he hired "also did makeup." Keep in mind, I have very short hair that requires little to no styling. The hairstylist admitted that she was going to her makeup training course in a month and had little to no experience. She told the photographer, that based off the pictures I had sent them of makeup I had done on myself, he was better off having me do my own makeup beforehand. Well he didn't tell me, so I showed up with a clean face. Fortunately, I brought my basics with me (foundation, concealer, powder, contour palette, mascara, eyeliner, eyelashes, beauty blender, and a few brushes) even though I wasn't expecting to need them. She ended up using all of them. I didn't bring any lipstick so we ended up having to run to the drugstore and pick up a color that would actually look good with my skin tone. She did a decent job with my face, but my eyes are hooded and uneven, so with her limited experience I ended up fixing my eyeshadow and eyeliner, lining my water line, and applying my eyelashes. Fortunately, she was really sweet and was not offended by my help. I could go into more detail, but I'll just say that I hope she takes her class before working with any models who don't bring their own kit.
P.S. Thank you, Robert! You're the reason I was better at makeup than the lady who was getting paid to do my makeup!

I haven't had my makeup done in YEARS, but I recently had my hair done for a wedding.... And though it wasn't the worst experience of my life, what bothered me was that I paid her to do something I could have done myself.
For me, the whole point in getting these services, is to achieve or accomplish something we, as customers, don't feel we have the skills or time to do ourselves.
And worse, it seems there's TOO MANY with outdated skills.
Speaking of the hairstylist I saw, everything from the tools she used, to the look she gave me (not what I had asked for), and even her own hair looked like it was from the mid-2000s.
It amazes me to think people make a living performing these services, yet probably haven't learned anything new in 20+ years.
I'm no professional artist, but guarantee I've learned more about hair and makeup in 3 months than my stylist has in a decade.
    That's not right.
Next time I'll ask for specific details about one's training.

I love your content because you're frank, yet gentle and educationnal. You don't just say "this isn't rigth". You explain why it isn't. I can learn a lot since I'm a makeup noob and your honesty and sweetness make your content very easy to absorb. Thank you for all the good work. I'm subscribing now
Edit : I love Judy D but often she's too kind with those "profesionnals". I'm glad that as a MUA you can call the bullshit out!

I love how you explain everything, as someone who's very amateurish at makeup (I only do my own, though). It's helpful.
I also love how you recognise that some people would NATURALLY go to use the applicators, so you give the advice "cut the applicator off if you're one of those people and you're a pro artist". I'm not an artist, as I said - but that's the kind of thing that would be so helpful for someone who is, because they might not think of that.

That was horrifying to watch! I don’t know how poor Judy could sit through that experience and not feel sick the whole time. 🤢
Thank you for another great video Robert. I look forward to the next. 🖤💖
