You might like the ethereal version of “This Mortal Coil” from this song. A mystical piece almost a-cappella with a single sustained musical note in the background that feels infinite and that concludes with a melodious and dreamy finale.
Lovely review. Syd was a great pioneer of 60's psychadeliia and more inventive than Bob Dylan, also a superior poet. The music he created is miraculous and otherwordly and takes you to places like Jimi Hendrix doing All Along the Watchtower - he sees things inside a melody that you never thought possible. There is also a great deal of experimentation in his work - not only in terms of lyrical content but also instrumentation and bridges. Standalone songs are like mini-symphonies (Interstellar Overdrive, Astromine Domine, and Octopus etc) but he could also hammer out a perfect pop song (like Lucifer Sam, which would have made a great Bond theme). I agree that there is an unwielding, unsettling element to his sound. He was also the person who first suggested that Pink Floyd use saxaphones - which was dismissed in the first place. I was proofreader on one of his biographies - A very irregular head - by Rob Chapman. Its worth a delve.
Syd songs: Baby Lemonade, See Emily Play, Jugband Blues, Dominoes, Dark Globe are my faves. Plus the whole 1st PF album :)
Dark Globe is just heart-wrenching, my favorite
I love No Man’s Land.
add opel to that list andwe're talking

“Wined and Dined” is worth a special listen! “Late Night” is great, with its purposefully “sour” notes and great slide guitar!
love that album
It's lucky the two solo albums exist to be honest he was pretty out there mentally & hard to record by this point, then he walked away forever.
The song is lovely

Good comparison with Syd-era Floyd and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. Both bands' musical direction changed completely
Wolf pack is a must listen
Give effervescent elephant a listen, great wee track, sending love from scotland🏴
Syd left before the completion of the second album, A Saucerful of Secrets.
Ur a smart dude piper is their best recorded it on a 4 track
Wierd song to start with, Baby Lemonade or my favourite Effervescing Elephant would have been better, but that's just me.
