Tho Brooklyn need to polisher job as a judge, I like her job. She has proven that she has what it takes and know how it works. She has also given support and be clear on how the competition is. Also being the drag queen of the panel, she is the one to be strict.and for the other judges, a lot to learn. They should remember that Michelle is difficult because she is pushing the queens and she speaks with either love as she she is tough.
Also, I have the hottest hot crush on Boy Bussy 😍😍

The main problem I have with the “why aren’t your arms white?” Critique is that Jimbo was going for Marie Antoinette, whose style was to have a very white face/chest area, leaving the arms as they were. Which is what Jimbo did, it’s clear that JBC has a very limited understanding but he still tries to act all-knowing.

I only became interested in the Canadian franchise when hearing abt CVTW. At the time, I'd never watched any of the franchises so I jumped into S2 to get a feel for it & I'm glad I didn't start w/S1. While Fierce was so utterly annoying & irritating I never finished the season, I wondered if Brooklynn just picked up the "tone" of JBC bc in other appearances, she's very different. On the Pit Stop & Hey Qween, where the weight isn't on her to make life altering decisions, she's prolly at her most authentic, which I think is very charisma, charming & likeable, to viewers. She also comes across as "one of the girls" & doesn't showboat /brag abt her judging gig & I always appreciate a humble person. Then on S2, s3 as well as CVTW, it seems she's greatly improved from S1. This might be totes my own theory but at times, it's like you see the wheels in her head turning as she tries to decide What Would Ru Do? I don't know if on the 1st season, she'd check in w/the other judges before giving out panel decisions but on the series I saw, she always checked the panel was in consensus which I liked, esp if she's not yet comfortable making the decisions alone. Adding in Brad as a co-judge improved the show, he's witty, she has a good rapport w/him & he puts her at ease so they can joke in a entertaining way for viewers. While Stacy Melchor, imo, is an improvement as well, I don't think they have found the best fit for the 3rd judge yet. It's also my belief that, perhaps, JCB, made the entire judging panel uncomfortable & w/the superior attitude of how he acted, he may have influenced the overall judging. He really put himself out as seasoned biz "professional " on the panel, when he just made the envirn negative, brought down the vibe & used the show as a personal vehicle for his failing career much like Todrick Hall did, who also, imo, spoke to & treated Queens disrespectflly. As Brooklynn gains more confidence in herself as a host & has people around her who are supportive of her AND drag, I think she'll grow as a judge & shine bc honestly, she intimately understands the show & does takes certain aspects of the show very seriously like the lip syncs. The fact she always knows every single word makes me feel like she studies the songs too & really comprehends the responsibility of her decisions, that they can change people's lives & I really appreciate she does seem to be that conscientious now. It's def a franchise you can't get by on not knowing the words. I'd keep her & Brad around. Besides nothing Brooklynn did on S1 could compare to the abysmal job of judging Valentina did on DR MX & they would have asked her bck, even tho she isn't bilingual, had she not demanded a cool million an episode, which is more than even Michelle gets.

I think the main issue with the judges on CDR at this point, outside of the "one source of drag truth" that RuPaul provides in the US/UK version, is that the two main judges on the US version have been in drag spaces for their entire adult lives. Michelle, for all her faults, grew up in NYC clubs, learning from Willi Ninja and Cesar Valentino. She's also been friends with Ru for decades, so their back-and-forth is fun and familiar. Trying to replicate not only that knowledge and living the life with three people who may know each other, but aren't friends who grew up in the scene, is hard to do.
There's also a "Michael Kors/Janice Dickenson/Simon Cowell approach to American reality judging that is hard to replicate, because all three of those judges are harsh and mean, but they also know every in and out of their industry, so it comes from a place of knowledge, so the meanness is more forgiven, for better or for worse.

Don’t get me wrong, Rita is great and I adore her, but they are giving her wins she just flat out doesn’t deserve, and it looks like total Rigga Morris. But on the whole, I really do hope JBC does not return for season 2, and I don’t think that saying so is “hateful” in any way. Agreed! His personality doesn't seem authentic. Michelle Visage called Laganja Estranja out for having an affected facade, and in my opinion it seems that JBC's facade is similarly affected. If you go back to his first appearance on All Stars 3 in the Bitchelor episode, he wasn't that over the top flamboyant character that he is currently playing on Canada's Drag Race, which is why his current facade doesn't feel authentic to me. I'm sick of the "yass girl" and "oh honnneyyy" and "gurrrrl's" that he throws in all the time.

As an European I have to point out this: Jimbo's Marie Antoinette reference was right, it used to be only the face painted white, not also the neck and the arms. I could understand the critique given if she was going for a zombie look, like the remake of her first time in drag, but this is not the case! Let's remember the Raja's Marie Antoinette look, that's exactly how they used to paint in the 1800s, because being pale in face was a sign of nobility (if you were tanned, it meant you were working in the fields).

@KingofThebes LOL, spoon fed me misinformation. Thats a trope. Its not real information. It was obvious that they didn't work outside and in fact...living a pastoral sort of life was IDEALIZED not shunned. Marie Antoinette herself had an entire little peasant inspired village created at Versailles where she'd dress down in muslin gowns and collect eggs and live a bucolic fantasy. Most other aristocrats of the period also had themselves painted as idealized sherpherdesses and as Diana, Goddess of the hunt. The pale makeup has NOTHING to do with 'showing they didn't work in the fields'. Literally nothing. If anything it has its roots in racism and being white...nothing to do with not being a peasant. It also was not that heavy. Jimbo's makeup looks more akin to Elizabethan makeup than anything to do with the rococo period. So please, don't think you can lecture me about the 18th century. I know more about the fashion, makeup, culture, architecture, jewelry and furniture than you could dream of learning. Sit down.

Caligula Longhbottom how ever you are right about Marie Antoinette having a little pasture with *parfumed*(yes really) Cows. You are incorrect about the make up. they use white make up to highlight they’re nobility and yes the paler you were the higher your standing was. Because as was said previously it meant you didn’t have to do labor. You said it was more akin to racisme that’s is not completely true not completely wrong either though it had more to do with social standing, which does support the rasisme in a part that people of other skin tones were deemed on the bottom of that ladder. I feel like the judges think they have to be “sassy” and “witty” since it’s drag race and fans tend to love a little ✨spice✨ but what they fail to understand is that being genuinely cruel and insulting is not sassy. It’s just mean spirited and low. Ru, Michelle, Ross, and Carson are _actually_ sassy; they don’t throw insults at the queens, they make lighthearted jokes every now and then, but they never cross boundaries. CDR Judges should’ve learned to back off their rudeness immediately after giving Lemon a panic attack on stage... but they didn’t ?? And I truly cannot understand why. Why would you continue to throw insults at the queens after giving one a panic attack?? It’s stupidity.
Aside from that, Bussy already said this a bit, but what makes the judging so hard to watch is how they never really critique the queens. They never let the queens know what they can do better to improve their drag nor do they let them know what’s holding them back or even making them excel. They basically just say “love it” or “hate it” without further elaboration. Like.. great? You have an opinion? but you’re also a JUDGE on TV, you need to elaborate on what you love/hate and why you love/hate it. You can’t just state your simple opinion, it’s useless and provides no benefits or learning moments for the queens.

I believe that JBC and Brooklyn are trying too hard to mimic the judging and relationship of Ru and Michele Visage. Brooklyn even made one of the same remarks to a contestant that Ru Paul made to someone in one of the seasons "She's wearing my outfit", I didn't really notice this until I rewatched a few of RPDR Allstars. With that said, I do believe this is where the issue is as there are some queues that come to them from the producers during the critiques, but I don't feel they know how to make the remarks funny or land in the right place. One of things I like so much about Thailand season is Art and Pangina really know how to judge and seem to both be Drag experts so to speak, they both bring some very interesting and positive critiques to their contestants as they truly come across as caring and in assisting in the growth of contestants. Same thing I feel about the Boulets on their seasons, seem truly caring. JBC is too busy being cute, and he's on RuPaul production blah. No, I don’t think the show ever would give a judge a villain edit.
They desperately want as famous and big name judges as possible to agree to be on the show as guest judges and permanent judges, to help promote the show.
If they are going to try replace the judges for a potential season 2 they are going to have quite a hard time doing it. Who would want to take the job now after seeing the viewers very strong response to the season 1 judges?
That is quite a risk to take with their career to accept that job.
I do however think JBC was asked, cast or entirely scripted to be the mean judge. And production totally botched the execution of it. I think they just have no way of saving it, because that is all there is.
They only have footage of those sort of critiques with JBC, so they could only potentially cut most of his critiques.
But I’m guessing that all the judges have something in their contracts about getting more or less equal screen time as all the other two judges.
And the show would have a hard time doing it, they need the critiques that makes no sense to explain the ranking of the girls that makes no sense.
I think all the judges got weird notes of the sort of critiques production wanted from them while filming.
I think production asked for ‘iconic’ and ‘memeable’ critiques.
They wanted “meh” moments, a "Is that a prosthetic nose?" or "No, no you talk like this! This is how you talk!".
All of them are pretty mean and unhelpful. But they and others similar to them are probably some of the most well known and shared moments from the judges.
Doesn’t make for good judging or tv if they try to force that kind of moments all the time and that is all we ever get form the panel and nothing else really.
Yeah no I think the main problem is that producers behind the scene had a very bad grasp of what would make good tv and understand what the fans would want while planning and filming the show.
And now has a mess they are trying to edit the best they can.

I think we react so strongly to JBC's critiques in part because he's a conventionally attractive man. Part of what everyone loves about drag and Drag Race is that anyone can transform themself and enjoy the sort of power and attention that's usually reserved for super hot people. So it just kind of sucks to watch a traditionally hot dude tear down a queen who's out there feeling her fantasy. Obviously, he can't control what he looks like, but it would've been nice if one of the producers had told him to emulate Carson Kresley instead of Michele Visage.

can we talk about how amazing this season is apart from the judges? Can we talk about how good the drama is? How entertaining and fresh all the queens are? How stellar the lip-syncs are? How many memorable moments have happened? I don't see anyone expressing how good this season is because all everyone focuses on is the judging. i get it. it frustrated me too watching it. but what i'll remember is not cringing over jeffrey and brooke, what i'll remember is priyanka making me laugh so hard every episode, rita being the most adorable little man out of drag, lemon surprising me when her talent and self-awareness started to shine, jimbo being unpredictable on the runway and HILARIOUS in untucked, scarlett being such a dark horse, the i drove all night lipsync almost moving me to tears. THAT'S WHAT WE SHOULD ALL BE TALKING ABOUT.

I feel like the biggest issue with the judges is that they're all trying too hard to be like RuPaul. They all take turns kinda "hosting" and it really raises egos for all of them, except maybe Stacey. Brooke Lynn Hytes isn't being herself like she was on Season 11, and Jeffrey has been consistently called out for "trying to be Michelle." I think it's not a matter of the judging that's bad, it's just the judges not being themselves.

Here's my personal opinion about JBC as a judge: Does he deserve racist insults, death threats and hate on his social media? NO. (No one does)? Does he deserve the harsh critiques he's getting? YES.
How do you expect to be rude and bitchy with your own words and not expect for someone to clap back at you? The problem with Mr. Chapman is that he tries so hard to imitate RuPaul to point where he does not seem authentic, and that makes it uncomfortable to watch. You're asking someone to show personality yet you imitate someone else's mannerisms? I thing the issue as well is that he has never done drag and lacks of fashion references (like the Jimbo critic) the best thing that can happen aside of the show addressing the hate from the fans is him apologizing for his words, because he has been rude, maybe he's not like that in real life, and we can't judge him because we don't know him but he has been really rude on the show and that has not been edited for shade or try to build drama. (Brooke Lynn also)
There's a way you can say things without being rude. If it was on my hands to have him on S2, I would rather choose someone else who has more tact and experience in the fashion world rather than being a model.

This most recent episode doesn't help either, once again Jimbo had arguably the best look and make over so the judges create some bullshit reason to not only prevent him from getting the win, but to place him "low" when they clearly didn't care much for Scarlet Bobo's outfit.
I guess they're realizing that "presentation" on the runway isn't exactly Jimbo's strongest quality despite his outfits arguably being the best throughout the season so they're giving that much more weight than anything else and it's fucking bullshit.

What irritated me about Canada's Drag Race was how the judges constantly shifted their standards, oh this week the runway is more important than the challenge, oh this week the challenge was significantly more important than the runway, this week the runway presentation is a huge deal and in every instance, it was at the detriment of Jimbo.
Whereas RuPaul is pretty consistent in favoring performance in the challenge over the runway, hence why we've had many queens do kind of poorly in the runway win because of their excellent performance in the challenge. To RuPaul, the runway typically serves as a "tie breaker" or which queen gets saved from lip syncing and with this standard in mind, Utica's overall placements each week makes sense.

Like if you desperately wanted to be "mean" to Jimbo during her pageant runway it would most likely be better to say something like "Jimbo you look much, much, much older this week. If the criteria was old glam you would be the winner. Next time let's see a bit more of a refined shape to your body. The goal is flowey, not frumpy". I don’t subscribe to Jeffery being “under contract” to act an arsehole. He’s coming across like an insipid 2 dimensional viper, the popular but mean girl in school. And I doubt that is the character he wants to portray. My assumption is he thinks he’s being acerbic but witty. Unfortunately, as can be the case with a good looking boy, they don’t have to work as hard at being popular, and the personalities can be lacking. I do think is the producers should have picked up he was missing his mark, and given him the constructive feedback.

Despite the outfit being reminiscent of multiple "corsets with a piece of fabric" looks that instantly get ridiculed by judges (I've even seen a side by side of it next to Porkchop's original look that got her eliminated.) Also, Kyne's outfit was berated for the pieces falling off and her difficulty to walk in it, without anyone remarking that it was styled and tailored very well. Combine this with Rita's out of place win and The fact that all of this was in episode 1 really set this season off on the wrong foot.

Ok, this is my theory about Rita's placement (I love her, this is not a hate comment). She is french canadian, more, from Montreal, my hometown. It can be hard to understand for non canadians, but there are huge tensions between french canadians and the rest of Canada. It is mostly for historical reasons but we rarely feel represented or respected when it comes to our language and traumas (which can be said about pretty much all natives and immigrants btw). People from Montreal are known to be very vocal about it, especially confronting english canadians whenever they can.
In a lot of canadian competitions in the past, french canadians have been snobbed, forbidden of even competing, not taken seriously, the list goes on. My theory is that since a lot of inequalities are being called out (me too, black lives matter, etc...) and even though the french canadian issue is way far from the ones I mentioned, they don't want this controversy that could ruin the show. Also, Rita is related (drag daughter?) to one of the most popular drag queen in Canada : Mado. And if she turns her back on them, almost all Quebec queens will.
Again, just my bullshit theory based on politic reasons and money.

Ok, here’s what I think. First of all I’d like to point that I’m an European and I’m not quite acquainted with neither canadian or american drag scenes. Well, aside of drag race at least.
I’ll start with my idea for the judging format. Because it is still RUPAUL’s drag race I’d like to see Ru as a host in the first episode. The show isn’t hiding with it’s approach which could be described as “Ru is still the main bitch and these people are only here because I’m to busy”. Ru still is leaving messages to the queens so I think that her being there in person for the beginning of each season as a co-host would be a nice touch. At the end of an episode she could appoint the “Warden of the North” (I roll with the Brooke Lynn’s GoT reference) which would be the leader of the judging panel during her absence. Also I see the “Warden” as the co-host of the first episode, alongside with Ru. Who that supposed to be? Imo Canadian drag queen, I don’t know the scene that well, but the Queen that appeared during the pageant challenged was introduced as some kind of big deal in Canada so I guess she could do. On her side I see Stacey and Brooke Lynn as a side judges and obviously special guests. Everything would roll as in the US drag race with the Canadian host wielding Ru’s power, thus having the final say. Perhaps we could grant Brooke Lynn the power to save one girl per one season from elimination, you know, as she knows the struggles of the contestants and might see something a bit differently than other judges. Idk, just an idea to make the show more entertaining.
Personally I still enjoy Brooke Lynn more than JBC. It might be because of what you said - we are more used to drag queens being mean to other drag queens. What annoy’s me about Brooke Lynn’s behavior is how hypocritical it sometimes turns out. You can be slightly mean if you have authority, after all it’s a reality tv show and throwing shade is what sells. HOWEVER, Brooke Lynn wasn’t flawless on her season and she didn’t win. It’s really quite easy to undermine her authority. If you want to be mean have some ground to do so, otherwise it’s a bit delusional. Aside from that, I do think she has the capability to change for the better and perhaps in the following season she will become a better judge. After all first season of US drag race was also experimental.
But when it comes to JBC... I really can’t stand him. I think I’m affected by the community and the overall hostility towards him has influenced me. I don’t know what i could add to that. He should focus on his area of expertise which is acting and stage presence and leave queen’s looks to other judges such as Brooke or Stacey. He annoys the shit out of me and I do think he needs to go.
Stacey is OK. I do think all your arguments on her were valid however I also would like to pin point that she was perhaps the only judge that was also a sweetheart to contestants (as in the “Fashion House” challenge) and I do think that this kind of balances all her bad deeds.

Some people are not meant to be judges because they don't know how to give constructive criticism.

After JBC told Jimbo her look wasn’t “Glamour” in that last episode i couldn’t take it anymore. The level of disrespect, and the lack of knowledge on actual drag culture. Jimbo had it right, if she didn’t know that was glamour i have an issue with his judging credibility.

But her dress was horrid? It wasn’t glamorous, it looked cheap. Cheap boas and bad shape. Great face. Every review show I’ve seen has agreed on that. I don’t know how anyone can see her look and not think that it’s a fail, especially compared to the other girls.

Wgirl99 Again he is a judge, what does "not glamourous at all" suppose to help her. He don't like the shape, the material, liked jimbo said it's her version of glamour and you can disagree but "not glamorous at all" was just a catty phrase rather than actual helpful criticism.

Le Tung also Jimbo’s face and hair were beat (Glamorous).Agree that the dress was a mess.

Le Tung Again, wasn’t glamorous. She didn’t have to give Latrice old school drag glam. It could’ve been campy or dark or ethereal but it had to be glamorous. Better design concept, better execution. Refined. Lemon was very campy, definitely a different interpretation but the look was complete and well executed. “Back to Party City where you belong”

J CB face and chest was beat? Lol 😂 learn how to use the words correctly ... beat means make up was on point.... what you mean was she used make up on her face and chest and still she looked camp and glamorous JBC is an idiot
