  • If we want a green recovery from the Covid pandemic that tackles the climate emergency as well as creating jobs and making Scotland a more accessible, affordable place to live, then we need a railway system fit for the 21st century.
A key part of this project for Mid Scotland and Fife is reopening the Dunfermline to Alloa railway line. Passing through stations like Clackmannan, Kincardine and Culross High, it will open up the area for business, tourism, study and pleasure.

Like not backing plans for a safe cycle crossing at Sheriffhall.
Now I am all for more train lines, have you ever tried to get anywhere in Scotland with your bike if you don't drive. I think all Party leader should be made to dump their cars for 1 year to get an idea JUST HOW HARD it is to get around Scotland. Can't get to Skye, Ullapool, Durness, Loch Lommond, Betty Hill, Moffat, AE forrest, Peterhead, Findhorn, Biggar etc...
I own a small bicycle business and haven't had a holiday for a long time. I decided I wanted to go to Fort William for a weekend camping and Nevis range. £138.20 they wanted for a train!!!!!!!!! So to goto the nevis range for 1 day on uplift + 2days traveling (6hr Sat, riding Sunday Nevis range 6hrs return Monday) by train from Dalkeith Would cost me the same as flights to Turkey return. and that is camping in Scotland, not even booking a B&B or factoring in any costs for camping. Travel + food + Nevis range would be around £220+ minimum.
Joke of a country, then they have the slap in the face to strike every Christmas and Summer ruining people plans and costing people holidays and large amounts of holidays.
Far as i'm concerned Scotrail management could all take a dive of a very large cliff.

@@muttscycles3435 Worker strikes are nothing to do with this.
      Everyone deserves a living wage.

@@lillysmith6123 it has everything to do with this. There is no point in opening a rail line if it grinds to a halt every year twice a year cause workers are striking.
Those are the same people that go online for bike parts because brick and mortar is too expensive. Guess I'm not allowed a wage rise.
But comment was more to do with sheriffhall roundabout that the greens block that would have seen the roundabout easier to negotiate for walkers and cyclists and kept traffic flowing.
I agree Alloa to North Queensfeery line should be reinstated **if** it doesn't see shortages a cancellations due to strikes and bad management.

You wouldn't say that about schools and teacher strikes, so I have to surmise that you're not a fan of trains.

Ok if you want to go slightly off topic.
schools don't strike twice a year every year and destroy people holiday that they have booked.
Years of careful planning of money to go on a holiday with family then train strikes. Twice a year every year.
If they did it during spring or autumn but they don't mind Summer holidays or on Christmas because they are selfish and only think about them selves.
If you think I hate trains then you would be wrong. My shop is right next to the borders rail line, I use it regular. What I hate is the cost.
It costs me more on train fairs from Midlothian to Fort William than it costs in a flight to Barcelona.
It's self defeating cause people can't afford to use them. Unlike Spain where it is almost free due to their green energy policy, France is £90 from Milan to the euro tunnel and that's a huge distance.
They are almost free for short journeys.
We need to focus on things like that, and new lines to Durness, Portree, Campbells town etc.. and making direct trains NOT via Glasgow. Extending the borders line through Peebles to moffat.
Quit it with so many strikes destroying trust in scotrail / National Rail. It's crippling travel and tourism.
If you looked at my profile you'll see I use the train a lot in my videos. When it's not striking or cancelled
Edit: excuse spelling, I'm on my phone not a PC. Also 🙂 it's just a wee debate don't take it any other way.

We have to use rail more, no dormant line should be left to rot. Invest now Scotland.

The problem being that this is a slow winding route and single track, however, get the trains on it asap, once passenger numbers have built up, invest in Reopening the direct route that was lost, the double track mainline than ran from dunfermline queen margret to alloa, then electrify it. Then we can have fast through services to glasgow and beyond.

a big issue with the direct route is that much of the right of way in dumfermline has been developed over

There's also a massive pile of unused train stations in Edinburgh.
How about we reopen them all?

Great idea. But all the talk of being carbon neutral is just a load of old bollocks. But that's the greens for you try using bio fuel.like a bio fuel methanol recycled cooking oil and deisel fuel. Or a mixture of ethanol and canola oil.how about hydrogen as a fuel. Never the less reopening long closed rail corridors is a brilliant idea.

"Canola"? Why dont you keep your projected American idiocy to yourself? The Greens in the UK are a different kettle of fish as people here, in the main trust science. Plus, it was an Electrified line they are suggesting, Scotland produces a lot of Green electricity, wind and hydro, unlike your Oil addicted, profligate politicized madhouse of a homeland
