      As a musician and as a paramedic of 26 years I have to disagree with the often repeated notion that you can bring air from your gut. Lungs are only so big and they don’t go into the gut. It would be nice to clarify that it’s a feeling of coming from your gut. But other than that air cannot come from your gut

      Vladimir Lopez the idea is to breathe from your diaphragm. the diaphragm is a muscle at the base of the lungs, which contracts when you inhale and creates space in your chest cavity. “gut” means diaphragm in this scenario.

      It is a joke yall. 🤦‍♂️ he means that the bari sounds like an airplane because of how low it is, and the timbre.

    This is actually really helpful, I play bari sax for jazz band; I never got the sound that other bari sax players get when they play. A fellow saxophone player played the bari I use during pep band once and listening to him helped me to figure out that the instrument, while in poor quality, is not the problem. I hope I can finally do it. I'll try the same techniques on my alto for marching band (Alexandria Monroe marching tiger band) to hopefully secure that all music award we failed to achieve last year. If you ever see us perform, I'm the ginger with curly hair.

    I got a new mouthpiece from my teacher and it feels like learning Bari sax all over again. I can’t get low notes to play quietly

    • @legoblox01
      @legoblox01 5 років тому +8

      idk if you've already solved the issue, but if the new mouthpiece has a larger tip opening or a longer facing curve you may need to go to a softer reed to get the same resistance you're used to. The downside is that your high register may be thinner but Bari sax doesn't really call for that and you can also build up air support and eventually move up to a higher strength

    • @michaellewis7409

      It could be a jazz mouthpiece. While I do suggest changing to 2.5 or lower reeds, maybe another brand of reeds may help too, the difference between RICOs and Vandoreans is huge to me.

      @@michaellewis7409 any suggestions for how to get used to the jazz mouthpiece? I just got one for Christmas the jodyjazz jet 7 and it just sounds high and squeaky if I manage to get a sound out

    • @michaellewis7409

      @@braxtonshelton195 Tbh I don't really know. That was years ago and I didn't actually know much until a few months ago when I started heavily researching. I would say to practice music you've played before a lot and use it when you have other chances to play, such as open band or other rehearsals. A friend of mine who's also done lots of research says it can take months to get used to a new one, so just give it time and keep practicing.
