Nice one. Reminds me of the 6 color chrome you did about a year ago? That blend in the bottom left under the robot is just on another level... The color choices really made it come together. That visor looks great as well! Got the explosion in that one! ;) I love the fact that you showed how to push the ink. When doing fades like that you have to work the lighter colors back into the darker ones to get that evenness accomplished. You have to be faster than the evaporation time. The more colors, the deeper the sighs... Hahaha ... But, seriously. It shows just how much of a labor of love it is to get it just right when working with alcohol/spirit markers. Plus, you get the intensity of either getting it correct, or switching to cel shading and acting like that was the plan all along. ;) I'm digging your "watch and learn" series. I think these tutorials will really give a leg up to the newer posse joining the art world. That blending technique can be applied to any type of art, not just graffiti. I hope your getting something out of this as well? It's nice to step out of your comfort zone. The piece is typical CUTE. F'N AWESOME. Ups!
Thanks mate, this is a bit of a sequel to that one I guess. It's one of my favourite fills to do. Always love the way it looks and doesn't take too long, although still longer than I thought! I'm quite enjoying this actually. The hair raising thing is that I try not to edit too much and o it straight through, so if I make a fk up, I have to correct in real time, just like I would if it was just me. Only fair thoguh if Im asking people to follow my process.
Always feels like ages when you feel someone's looking over your shoulder. It was the perfect length and very comprehensive. I love that piece from last year. This one was great to watch as well. Especially since my wife asked why I have such a large collection of dead markers the same day I watched this video ;) When I FIRST started doing chrome fills (decades ago) , I didn't think to leave the space from the edge. I always just ended up doing a white outline, inside the letters. But, I always had to go back and touch it up... Especially the black. I caught on after spending way too much time on a few out in the wild. I needed a quicker way. Studied a lot of old school pieces in Subway Art and watched a LOT of guys doing airbrushed tshirts! Those crazy bastards could do some insane stuff with very little. Paint goes over paint. Much more difficult using markers. ;) Best to ya!
Your artwork is always entertaining..I have been doing a little bit of graffiti myself but it's not as good as yours..I have been copying from you book they have been a big help..
Great tutorial! Love the sketchbook! I haven't worked as an artist since 2009. I lock up cops/Epsteins slime, now, as a federal civil rights investigator. Makes me very unpopular with the poe-leece. Anyway, I remember putting mail stickers through my printer 🖨 to.print the same blank train & cargo van graphics for my pack/trades. I made slaps & stenciled spray pain canvasses, printed artists custom T shirts. I traded with good writers. They loved the blank mail stickers with the trains to do their tags or whatever.
Thanks mate, I've done similar with some outlines I have, run them through the printer on tube maps and then use alcohol markers to colour them so that they're translucent. Great minds eh? Thanks for watching!
