    It's easier for me to figure out the time difference on a digital clock (maybe I'm just used to them), but I agree on the visual cue of time passing being useful.

    Seems to me that having a constant knowledge of the time and its passing (along with audio cues) would trigger my anxiety.

    Luke, i miss you. Your videos stuck out in a sea of very mundane un-resounding information. Please make more, your first 3 videos genuinely helped me get through last year. Golden advice.

    I struggle with reading analog clocks. I was shocked I couldn't tell the time difference for both lmao. ADHD might be the least of my worries LOL. I am convinced from this video though that I should consider getting an analog clock while I'm working. The day just disappears on meI get time blindness all the tiiiiime.

      I found the videos you made previously to be good, and we know you have ADHD, so I feel like I’m willing to be patient if you make videos at a slower pace than you would like. Do what works for you! :)

    The thing that makes digital clocks annoying for me is that my brain is used to working in units of 100, so when I see that the time is 10:15, I think that I have plenty of time in the hour, when in reality, I am a fourth of the way through

    0:29 I got it right without pausing. I got the analog one wrong after pausing for a while and getting frustrated lol. it's just a matter of what you're used to I guess. also the analog clock you animated is much easier to read than the images you used. I set windows to show seconds in the (digital) taskbar clock and it does feel reassuring in a way so maybe there's something to that. mini-deadlines every 5 mins works with digital as well.

    oooo good video!
    some other points that would be nice is getting use to analog and also thinking about analog clocks not as digital clocks with extra steps but their own thing, like taking a glance at an analog to read the time instead of converting the hand positions to to digital numeral time, also nice to know that you don't usually need the time to the exact minute most times, half's quarters and 1/12's also works just fine.
    also same goes for that example of calculating time, you used digital formate for the answers which I mean yeah that is kinda needed and the example for the train stations was perfect so maybe you could have shown that but digital to show you how hard it is to tell.

  • @mostdefinitelynotaguineapi7566

    I found that the examples you gave had the opposite effect for me than the point you were trying to make.
    Digital clock example: I was able to jump into doing the math easily. (2 minutes to get to 11, then to get 12 I add... where am I again... 11 - 1 hour, then 34 minutes - 1:36, done). I paused the video, and I mightn't have been able to get it in the time frame the video gave, but it was only a few seconds longer. That being said, I find quick math more easy and intuitive than a lot of people.
    As for the analgoue clocks, I stared at them uncomprehendingly for a moment and went 'uh... the short hand is the hour... um... ah, whatever' and unpaused the video to see the answer. I had difficulty getting my mind to translate from the clock format.
    the real takeaway is that the system that works best for one person might not work best for another. The ticking of an analogue clock might distract me if I need silence. I find that a digital clock *with seconds* is the best system (as the seconds remind me the time is flowing constantly). That being said, this video has reminded me that I do need to try having more deadlines and boundaries.

      the thing is when using analog for a long time you phase out the numbers more and more, how you think of analog is something that you have to convert into digital time so 🕟--> 4:30 but then the morse you use it the better you get at perseving time.
      like I can look at my clock right now at a glance and see how far in the day i am vs digital i have to understand what the numbers mean then I get a feeling for the time there, humans are analog anyway so there you go

    After hearing this tip in the previous video, ive been wanting to get a cute analog clock that does chime every hour, partially for me, but also for my boyfriend. I know i benefit from stucture and have plenty of alarms set up for various things, so im always a little aware of the time. But he struggles a lot more, and hes keen on the idea! So now we just need s clock!
    Also, i will say, last night, i went swimming, coulsnt have my phone on me, obviously, but there was an analog clock, and i think jt was easier to read from a distance, with dim lighting. So thats a plus I think!

    HARD disagree on this one, I've always struggled with reading analogue clocks, while digital just made sense instantly
    Maybe it's just that my ADHD has a pinch of dyslexia added for flavor. But still I feel like it's more of a personal preference than a universal ADHD thing.

      I think digital clocks are just easier, its literally the basic maths that we all learned at school. Analog clocks you have to get used to them, and for the new generations its all digital

    • @lostotter1956
      @lostotter1956 Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I think it might be a personal preference. I think I need a mix of both. I have analog clocks hanging around my house because that makes sense to me and I can comfortably read them, but I do sometime misread my analogue clock in the morning in bed, thinking I’m late when I’m actually early or on time, so I feel having both available is very helpful. Just, more time reminders !!

      Agree. Being taught how to read analogue clocks in infant school is my earliest memory of not understanding something.
      Even today, I can't read an analogue clock without spending at least five seconds decoding it.

    • @Scar32
      @Scar32 11 днів тому

      @@joelcoll4034 it sure is a little bit of a chore to get use to reading analog but I feel it could be the same for digital, it's hard to imagen what it is like learning digital from scratch, you can kinda think of it like learning to read time with a different timezone like when you first read time you have to get use to what 8 means what 10 means what it means when it is 7:30 ect... with analog i feel like it could be better since even without getting the time from it like with the number but just looking at it you can see the hour hand progressing though the day and then the minute progressing though the hour and it's all visual so it's easy to get use to, on digital side you kinda have to imagen that but with numbers instead of hand angles which to me is harder even for someone who has read digital all my life up until a little while ago.

    I wholeheartedly disagree.
    Maybe it’s just me but I find telling the time on an analog clock incredibly difficult, I need to look at both handles and figure out what they mean and put it together. And when you showed the two pictures of 1 - the digital clocks with a time difference and 2 - the analog clocks with a time difference, I was able to calculate the time difference between the digital numbers you showed while it was still on screen but wasn’t even able to read the time on the first analog clock while it was on screen, let alone the second one, let alone figure out the time difference.
    So I guess we’re all different, and having ADHD doesn’t mean that the same things work better for all of us.

    • @Patrifice
      @Patrifice Рік тому

      Oh and while I agree that pie charts are very good at conveying information, the reason I don’t think it applies to analog clocks is that you don’t see when you started doing something. The chunks of time that passed aren’t actually displayed on it. It’s all just little dots and I cannot remember where the handle was the last time I looked.
      So for me the time on the analog clock is much more abstract. I have learned to work with just numbers and give meaning to them, so that works for me.
      The only thing I’ll agree with is the ticking noise. I can see how that makes time passing more tangible but I also imagine that at some point you won’t even hear it anymore.

    Do me a favor. Put an analog watch on your wrist. Hold up your wrist and glance it for a moment. Now do the same for a digital watch. Which one was easier to read?

    If I could read analog clocks this could work for me. Haveing the auditory reminder of time could be helpful or it could be more distracting.

    I personally prefer analog and you make a good case but as you say at the end, analog clocks *might* be better for some people, but I've met plenty of people including with ADHD who can't use analog at all and find digital is easy to use, so its each to their own.
